I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

Nah fam? Is that a village in Vietnam? :hihi:
You were doing just fine until you turned your message into a "y'all" versus "we" thing.
    Big turnoff.
Turned it from a neutral observation into a bashing.
    Sad panda.

    Urban dictionary is your friend.

    Nah Fam
This phrase is often used when disagreeing with someone. For example, if someone calls you something, you can use this phrase to say, "Nah fam"! Some may think fam is used as a shorter term of "family," but this is not the case. You use this when referring to someone you are close to or are your so called, "homedogs."

(Hmm, maybe I should start an urban jargon thread similar to your political jargon thread on the MCB. You know, to educate the masses, like you. Or would I be swagger jackin?)

So, sad panda, who is the "y'all" and "we" in my post? Whom am I bashing? I think your comprehension of my post may be off. I'd like to clarify if necessary.

I have 4 daughters in their 30s who speak leet fluently.
We agreed that I wouldn't make them learn federal government acronyms and they wouldn't make me learn leet. :9:
By all means, feel free to join in the political jargon thread anytime! That goes for everybody.
As I read it, the "y'all in your post was the mayor and the city administration in general and the "we" was you speaking on behalf of the people of the city in general.
Mind you, as someone grew up all over Louisiana but never lived in New Orleans, I've tried to make it a personal policy leave New Orleans politics to those who've lived there.

So quick aside..I have a cousin who is stuck in Peru. He has said he was very very ill with a bunch of people a few months ago and isn't sure what he had but it could have been covid..Anyway the fine practitioners in the city he resided him helped him recover through medications and self-quarantine and he got much better. Problem is the president of Peru ordered that within 24 hours all foreigners had to leave the country. Many people did not have time or I assume funds to leave, so there are many Americans still stuck in Peru and will be there for some time.

    Crazy times...

Sometimes things can get so impersonal on Internet forums.
I have a daughter in Seattle. She went to the doctor for a sinus infection last week.
Then, she began experiencing waves of full-body fatigue, and aching lungs.
Awaiting test results. Haven't heard from her since Friday.
As a parent, I often find myself imagining the worst and hoping for the best.
Usually, things don't turn out as bad as I imagined.
But, every once in a while, the realities of life somehow manage to exceed my worst case scenarios.
Best wishes for your cousin, Heathen.

Wishing the very best for you and your daughter's health, DD.

Speak leet. LOL. What's in UD and "speaking leet" are two very different things my friend. Sorry to disappoint you and your daughters. I don't want you to learn "leet (LMAO, wow)." You seemed confused about the phrase. I provided a resource for you.

So, how do you know I don't have vested business interests in New Orleans, that under your rule or "personal policy", would qualify me to speak on New Orleans politics? What if I own property there? What if I own multiple properties there? What if I have family that resides there? Hmm.

What's troublesome, to me, before any of that is pondered is that your "personal policy" doesn't seem to be something you yourself abide by. I've seen you comment and make critiques of various places that you don't currently reside in. Why is that? Why does your personal policy not apply to those places politics? Or is that just reserved for New Orleans? Seems hypocritical to me.

The policy makes very little sense to me.

I think the I wish part threw him off GMR.

Nevertheless, it seems shortsighted (being nice) that he assumes I don't have interests in a city I'm speaking about. It's an odd rule to begin with. Like, even if I didn't, on a political message board that encompasses topics globally, he only opines about politics where he resides? Perhaps I'm confused and he'll clarify.

I agree with all of this..And just to reaffirm what you're saying in a different way, we have billions -- probably trillions, dedicated to wartime effort, but aren't prepared for helping our citizens during a pandemic. That says a lot about our 'prerogatives'.

And I want to say I'm not at all downplaying the need to be militarily prepared. I most certainly hold that in very, very high regard. But we're looking very incompetent right now. It'd be nice if we could all in both parties and independents have a roundtable on the 'state of affairs' and see how we could all be in the very least more prepared for the next time this happens.

My home state of Mississippi is already up to 207 cases :(

I was going going to thumbs up your post, but that felt weird given the la

Oh, you're perfectly free to exress your thoughts about New Orleans politics. I presume nothing about your interests there.
My personal policy is the result of having grown up mostly in the northern half of of the state and years of studying state history. Given the intricacies of the exceptions and provisos granted to Orleans Parish under virtually every state law that is written, really best to leave New Orleans politics to New Orleanians.
    It's not hypocritical. It's practicality.

I never assumed you didn't have interests in the city. I was speaking of myself, not you.

While I love New Orleans and have spent a lot of time and money there, I'vd never lived there, so I defer to those who have, in matters of local politics.
