I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

You can't enforce health and sanitation laws on a population of unlawful, undocumented, non-citizens.
Say, how are the tent cities of people living and pooping on the sidewalks in San Francisco and Seattle holding up?
I understand San Fran has put everybody on lockdown. How does that even work with undocumented people living in tents on the sidewalk?
    Simple answer: It doesn't.
Doesn’t even come close to addressing your charge
What laws if followed would have changed anything

    @Beach Friends
Republicans and conservatives shouldn’t hide their criticisms.

They're not hidden, just discussed in a forum where they can be considered more meaningfully by people who are perceived to be more objective and dispassionate.

It's akin to having an honest discussion about the weaknesses of the Saints. Do you think it would be more beneficial to have that discussion on Saintsreport or on a Falcons' message board?

It sure would have gone a long way toward being able to institute the kinds of health and sanitation measures which are now required.

People are crying about ICE raids? Did you ever read accounts of the measures taken to stop tuberculosis in this country? Read up on it sometime.

It is interesting how fast people flock to socialism when it is their livelihood being threatened. Now insurance companies need to be bailed out so they can bail out others?!?

I am a small business owner and I a really torn on bailing anyone out.

Especially small businesses from those who are completely against socialism in all its forms a week ago.

If you didn’t think ahead enough to require your insurance policy to have a force majeure clause- your fault, not mine.

    Let the market decide.

......The failures of the government’s response to the coronavirus crisis can be traced directly to some of the toxic fantasies now dear to the Republican Party.

Here are a few: Government is bad. Establishment experts are overrated or just plain wrong. Science is suspect. And we can go it alone, the world be damned.

All of these are wrong, of course. But we didn’t get here overnight. It took practice.

Long before Trump, the Republican Party adopted as a key article of faith that more government was bad. We worked overtime to squeeze it and shrink it, to drown it in the bathtub, as anti-tax activist Grover Norquist liked to say.

But somewhere along the way, it became, “all government is bad.”

Now we are in a crisis that can be solved only by massive government intervention. That’s awkward.............

So, if these old drugs work when repurposed do I still get my 1k mad money?

I have my eye on a new AR-15. You guys can stock up on toilet paper if you want.

politicians love to say small businesses are the backbone of the economy, then hardly do much to help sustain/grow that sector, while giving billions in tax cuts to mega-corps.

You haven’t said what “it” is

    I did not know that
You’re speaking so broadly that a point is very elusive
AGAIN what is NOT being done now that would have made a marked difference?
We still have illegal, undocumented immigrants present in a population which is undergoing a health and sanitation crisis which will require 100% accountability of the testing and treatment of every person.

This cannot be accomplished without documenting all the undocumented and stopping the influx of more undocumented people.

    You know that.

Go back a few decades and look at how we as a nation dealt with epidemics of typhoid, cholera, and tuberculosis.

It's very ironic that you focus on that about Tucker, but you fail to see how many on the left see everything through the prism of race. It's almost hard to find a subject where the Democrats don't inject racism.

I've yet to see any examples of when someone criticizes illegal immigrants or the immigration system where they aren't labeled xenophobic or racist by the left. There is definitely racism that needs to be addressed like in the criminal justice system, but the Democrats use the accusation of racism to divide as well. It's similar to how the Republicans use the subject of abortion.

I criticize the immigration system all the time. I criticize illegal immigrants too and yet I've never been called a racist by anyone ever.

But I'm not for building a wall and using dog-whistles to promote racist tendencies with which to fan the flames of hate to motivate my racist supporters either. Still, I think our immigration system is horribly broken. I think we have too many illegals and I think our system of ignoring the employers who hire illegals and thereby attract them without punishment when caught is broken. Instead of locking refugee children in cages, I'd suggest we reform out immigration system to where it works. Efficiently.

While you're trying to make a strong connection here between illegal immigration and coronovirus, it's really not the same topic and not directly related to the handling of the current situation. It's a side issue at best. Would you mind starting another tread and discussing it there, please?

I'm trying my best not to get involved, as I see so many weakness in your argument it's irking me. But I don't want to further hijack the thread and make this into an immigration discussion.

    Thanks.

Then I would suggest that you use whatever definition makes more sense to you.

Do I think we should go and punish Mr. Wang on market street in WuHan, personally? Nope.

Do I thing we should punish the government that Mr. Wang lives under, yes I do. I think Chinese government should be crippled and punished depending on what we find out to be true with this global shirts show that they started.
Will this have a direct effect on Mr. Wang? I would suppose so. Do I care, not really.

    Let me get this straight.

You think China allowing their southern people to eat crazy animals like bats and civets and whatever else they eat should bring down the full weight of the world on their government, right?

Is that correct? If so, what on earth do you think about our government or parts thereof trying to outlaw abortion or seasonal deer hunting or the use of LSD or eating bacon?

Is it your argument that when there's a risk involved to the health and well being of one's self or others that government should step in and outlaw the behavior?

    Guns too?

Yeah I'm still going with Chinese Coronavirus

Does it make us better if we do the same thing the Chinese government is doing? You keep bringing these examples of the Chinese spreading conspiracy theories, lies and fear to compare to what conservatives in this country is doing. Nobody is saying that the Chinese government doesn't do these things, we know they do. It's not right and it's not okay. Of course they spread misinformation, they're an authoritarian government. I would just rather my government and government officials not do the same thing they're doing. Am I asking for to much?

If you were known as being right of center I guarantee you would have been called racist by now.

It's beyond ridiculous to claim building a wall promotes racist tendencies. I could understand the criticism of the cost, but when you combine it with other enforcement mechanisms it can be effective.

What are the dog whistles you are referring to?

Neither Republicans or Democrats really want the immigration system fixed. Republicans like to exploit the current system to help give businesses cheap labor. Democrats like to exploit it as well by trying to make it as easy for as many illegal immigrants to come here so when they eventually get amnesty passed they will have a whole new generation of voters they can depend on.
