I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

Vaccine mandates are good for the economy as well as public health.

Republican ideas have never actually been good for the economy, so this tracks.

Why make the issue of vaccination and masks a symbol of tribal membership? We are wired for tribalism and it is sometimes difficult to control the DNA.
I can assure you, the left has no desire to make this a "symbol of tribal membership." Vaccines are a good thing. Your side made it a "tribal" issue. My side would be more than happy if everyone on your side decided to get vaccinated. You don't have to join our tribe because, as you said, this shouldn't be a tribal issue. Just get vaccinated.

But the extreme right made it one.

    Your side.

This guy says that Stewart is full of crap:

    🤷‍♀️

Citing information that he said had been provided to the House Intelligence Committee but not released publicly, Stewart said several intelligence agencies had at least 20% of their workforce unvaccinated as of late October. In some agencies, as many as 40% are unvaccinated, Stewart said. He declined to identify the agencies because full information on vaccination rates was classified.

"guys TRUST me. Theres 20-40% unvaccinated.. what? you want proof? Opps, sorry. That info is classified, but please believe me!"

Capitalism has created tye greatest prosperity in world history Brandon.
My side would be more than happy if everyone on your side decided to get vaccinated.
I am triple vaccinated Brandon. Your tribalism is noted.

Considering you had municipal police forces with around 1/3 unvaccinated. That doesn't sound made up at least.

Nope, but despite their defects Republicans support a capitalist society.
OTOH, your kind has a fetish for socialism which has never worked.
    Things you already know:

    1. Unfettered capitalism is terrible for society. See: child labor laws, minimum wage, environmental protections.

    2. Democrats do not want socialism. Democrats want to continue to moderate and improve upon capitalism by instituting additional protections that current laws do not adequately address. You support some of these protections (MCA, etc).

And now, a question: Do you believe capitalism as it exists in America currently is the perfect economic model? Since you support MCA, I would assume that means you don't believe American capitalism is currently perfect.

So basically, you're a socialist, too, and now we're just discussing numbers.

The essence of capitalism does not favor monopolies or the crony forms of capitalism. The essence of capitalism is this:

    Adam Smith also said:

"People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices…. But though the law cannot hinder people of the same trade from sometimes assembling together, it ought to do nothing to facilitate such assemblies, much less to render them necessary."

I didn't say it did. I would agree that that is a pretty good quote about capitalism. Their regard for their own interests is why we had to have:
child labor laws, minimum wage, environmental protections.

I'm not sure you understand what this means.

He's saying that every time companies in the same market get together, they end up colluding to gouge the public, and though the government should not facilitate this price gouging, it also shouldn't intervene.

Do you actually agree with that?

That is what I meant to say. Capitalism is as described by the Adam Smith quote about the baker and the butcher. Capitalism is not about making money dishonestly, gouging the public, or gaining favor by the government officials by donating money to them.

The first cell phone was very rudimentary, costly, and only available to the well to do. These days homeless people have access to free cells phones. Due to capitalism and technology the lives of the poor are improved.

The Motorola DynaTAC 8000X commercial portable cellular phone received approval from the U.S. FCC on September 21, 1983.[1] A full charge took roughly 10 hours, and it offered 30 minutes of talk time.[2] It also offered an LED display for dialing or recall of one of 30 phone numbers. It was priced at $3,995 in 1984, its commercial release year, equivalent to $9,952 in 2020.
