I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

I think the jury is still out, Farb. It’s too new. The reason doctors the world over are recommending that people who have had Covid still get the vaccine is that it’s a very safe vaccine, and it costs nothing to get it. There is a theory that it provides an extra bit of immunity over the natural immunity.

I get that it is new and that makes sense. Why not say that? That is what is driving all the skeptics.
So far the jab is 'safe' but long term effects are not known at this point.

I have read several studies, including the 1 that is not the same study that @coldseat and I are going around about, that was just released from Israel. The ones that actually detail this part are saying natural immunity is actually better against Delta than the vax minus your booster. I pay attention to these because I have had a prior infection and I have not gotten the jab and I don't plan too.

I want to also preference everything, so as not to hurt the sensibilities, I am not anit-vax. I have all of mine and get a flu shot every year. If anyone wants to get the jab, go for it. It is free and pretty safe. All of my family is jabbed. I encouraged my parents to get it. Not my son however but his Mom vetoed me on that. I am not because I have had it, and I know my anitbodies are doing their job.

They do say that, the medical experts. That’s how I knew the answer. But if you consume some right wing media outlets they will present to you a skewed version of what the experts are saying.

I have read that no vaccine in history has ever been shown to have long term effects. All complications from vaccines that have been observed are evident in the short term. I do get that these are new types of vaccines, but if you don’t want mRNA, there’s still the J&J.

With all that being said, you’re probably fine not getting the vaccine if you don’t want it. My son had Covid in August of 2020, yet he still got the vaccine as soon as he could. He figured it would be a booster to his immune system and since he teaches in a state with a low vaccination rate and low mask wearing he figures he’ll be exposed again. That’s how he got it in the first place was in the classroom.

Other actual news outlets do spend time and money to try to get the truth. They don’t always succeed and there’s been some of what I think of as editorial creep, but by and large you can trust what they say.

Outrage porn is fun, no doubt. But it ultimately serves no other purpose than the more widely-consumed porn porn. Neither are particularly informative or useful for critical thinking. People who read Playboy for the articles, notwithstanding!

For a more G-rated analogy, I love cookie cakes. Without repercussions, I'd probably eat them every day. Nom nom, tastes good! But ultimately it only serves to release whatever endorphins are associated with food/pleasure and not healthy to the physical condition.

One of the things I've observed these last few weeks with the withdrawal from Afghanistan is how hard the "media" has hammered Biden and his administration. How much the right has reveled in it. And how little the left that supported and voted for Biden has complained about it. Because that's what the media is there to do.

If this where any persecuted politician or personality in the right wing, the crying and claims of leftest, partisan, activist, Democratic media would be off the charts.

why do you believe an organization with a known record of just making stuff up? Or twisting the truth in order to push their own agenda? Your default position on stories from these sources should be skepticism just due to their track record.

I am fairly sure these things didn’t happen exactly the way they were presented by your shirtty websites. Did you read my example of the faux outrage on the left about the school board in WI? That one I read on Twitter, because I try to stay away from websites that are just trash. When I read someone on Twitter pushing this type of crap, I block them, don’t have time to read stuff just made up to create faux outrage.

Most people are reasonable and not radical extremists. Divorces that are “messy” often make people act a little crazy. There is probably much more to these stories that is being purposefully left out.
