I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

Hatred of former President Donald Trump has kept researchers from looking into the anti-parasitic drug ivermectin and other drugs to treat COVID-19, Republican Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul told constituents on Friday.

"The hatred for Trump deranged these people so much, that they're unwilling to objectively study it," Paul said to the 60 people squeezed into the Cold Spring City Council chambers in this Northern Kentucky suburb just south of Cincinnati. "So someone like me that's in the middle on it, I can't tell you because they will not study ivermectin. They will not study hydroxychloroquine without the butt area of their hatred for Donald Trump."

I just read about a fairly large study the other day, it looked at 8 different therapeutics and ivermectin was one of them as was hydroxychloroquin. The study has been finished, but is waiting on peer review. Spoiler: ivermectin didn‘t appear to perform well. They did find a cheap drug that did seem to perform well, though, I just don’t remember what it was. Rand Paul is a human poop stain.

Yes. I agree. He was a felon if I remember right.

I hope that is the case (the masking thing being BS) because with the temp being raised on all of us unclean I would hate for shootings to start over something so trivial as wearing a cloth mask.

What that article fails to say is that all children were tested twice a week and that any possives resulted in 2 weeks mandatory quarantine of the entire class and all contacts

Also due to agressive contact tracing the number of infected are kept low- Even with Delta

We have also reached an 80% vaccination of all those eligable status which is why they open more

At least your experts are not trying to hide immunity from natural exposure as a real option.

Well they do warn that the natural exposure immunity is much less effective than the vaccine. AND comes with considerable risk for serious illness, death or long term disability.. So no - they definitely do NOT recommend going "natural". It is strongly discouraged. Not only for your own sake but also for the sake of those around you. Vaccines do not infect others. An infected person does...

Because of this:

Julie Smith found Ivermectin on her own and connected with Dr. Fred Wagshul, an Ohio physician who her lawsuit identifies as “one of the foremost experts on using Ivermectin in treating COVID-19.” He prescribed the drug, and the hospital refused to administer it.

This doctor wasn't her attending physician at the hospital. The article doesn't say, but it's pretty obvious he didn't have attending privileges there. He's a kook. So now standard of care at hospitals for an ICU patient by attending physicians should be driven by a compromised family members that find kook doctors to satisfy what they hear on conservative media and enforced by judges?

The reason not to do it is the well being of the patient. Doctors and hospital are already dealing with enough crap, they don't need this stupidity on top of it. They already made a bad decision by not getting the vaccine that likely would have prevented him being in the ICU. They don't need to continue piling on by forcing their ignorance. Let the medical professionals do what they're there to do.
