I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

I have zero doubt Nancy would have hopped right to it if Trump would have demanded it. Zero doubt.

I don’t have a dog in the hunt. Nancy would have found another reason not to before the election because she didn’t want to give him a win, which wouldn’t have made it any less politically beneficial for him to demand it.

After the election? Over these last couple of weeks? You better believe she would have been all over it like a maskless San Francisco haircut.

And I know it’s not “just that easy”, but I really wish they had just kicked out the contentious items and passed the no brainer stuff to actually help people. Trump’s right - the $600 direct payments are almost insult to citizens who have been waiting for relief.

As far as him requesting this earlier, I do believe the White House had sent out a plan (or whatever) after that ballyhooed bipartisan plan came out. The WH one included payments, the bipartisan one did not. At least I think I’m remembering that correctly?

I could be wrong, but I think the democrats had proposed $2k in the beginning. Not sure why anyone would doubt that they would support this. Mitch is the one who has to be fuming, along with other Rs like Paul. Mitch didn’t get his corporate liability waiver and he will have to give out $2k. (Assuming he caves).

The Republicans won’t cave. This is DOA. If anything it may cause a lot of hand wringing that delays the payments. Best case they compromise back up to what the payments were before (1200) but even that is unlikely.

This may very well be a case of a backside hurt Trump trying to sabotage the Republican Party for not going along with his scheme to kill democracy. It’s that reckless.

I kinda hope they don’t cave, stay with me here. I’m thinking this is Trump trying to show everyone that the Rs will still dance to his tune. If they do, then he will be emboldened to take that “final solution” that you know he is just itching to do and call out the troops.

If they don’t, then he will know his stranglehold has weakened.

Lol, this is probably just me reading too much into it.

He doesn’t have nearly that depth of thought. He’s a “fire bad” kind’a guy.

Oh that's exactly what it is. Retribution.

He is a scorned child and is doing exactly what a scorned child does..

I just watched his statement on it. He’s complaining about all the pork in the bill, and he’s right. They padded this thing like crazy and then short changed the American people. I wish he would have said something sooner, but what he’s saying is correct. Make the bill just about COVID and put the money in the hands of the American people.

What? You don't want to pay for a border wall.........................in Jordan?

Honestly, had he actually done stuff like this earlier, he wouldn’t be in the position he is in right now.
