I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

The more I think about it, the more this is just a pure metaphor for his term. Total detachment from any and all aspects of his job, when it comes to legislation, only to big foot in at the last minute and completely fork things up.

Saw Amy Klobuchar this am on TV, she urged him to sign the legislation and let them add an increased stimulus amount when they all get back on Monday.

The more I think about it, the more this is just a pure metaphor for his term. Total detachment from any and all aspects of his job, when it comes to legislation, only to big foot in at the last minute and completely fork things up.

Maybe just maybe America keeps it money for oh oh I don't know America and it's citizens? Maybe the money can be better spent here then in say Pakistan for gender studies or Jordan for a (LMAO) border wall or better spent then spending money to see if sitting in a hot tub will lower stress?

For the record, I fell into the trap of reading and reacting to the initial headlines and not reading the actual story behind those headlines because I tuned out of the congressional COVID response "debates". I failed to realize that they rolled this response into a Omnibus Spending Bill which was also designed to keep the Gov open. So, for those of us complaining about the "pork" in the COVID Bill, we have been duped by sensational headlines and I just wanted to admit that failure on my part.

That being said, I guess I was asking too much for them to do more than one bill at a time.

Same here. I didn't realize they rolled them up together. I've been on vacation and trying to unplug from the news because I can't relax if I'm screaming and cursing at the TV all day.

Here’s an interesting comparison about what Trump complained about versus what his own budget proposal contained when it was submitted a while ago. Lol. Only Trump could submit a budget, get what he asked for, and then say it was a disgrace that Congress put those exact funds in the budget.

Tucked away in the 5,593-page spending bill that Congress rushed through Monday night is a provision that some tax experts call a $200 billion giveaway to the rich.

It involves the tens of thousands of businesses that received loans from the federal government this spring with the promise that the loans would be forgiven, tax free, if they agreed to keep employees on the payroll through the coronavirus pandemic.

But for some businesses and their high-paid accountants, that was not enough. They went to Congress with another request: Not only should the forgiven loans not to be taxed as income, but the expenditures used with those loans should be tax deductible.

“High-income business owners have had tax benefits and unprecedented government grants showered down upon then. And the scale is massive,” wrote Adam Looney, a fellow at the Brookings Institution and a former Treasury Department tax official in the Obama administration, who estimated that $120 billion of the $200 billion would flow to the top 1% of Americans.

The new provision allows for a classic double dip into the Paycheck Protection Program, as businesses get free money from the government, then get to deduct that largess from their taxes.

Graham is not really on board, he is tying his "support" to repealing Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act to allow Trump, Devin Nunes, and other Republicans to sue Twitter when someone tweets something mean about them. What that has to do with financial relief is a mystery.

That's for the defense bill... the NDAA passed a couple weeks ago.

Yes, that is correct and a good point to make sure to highlight.

I reckon the bigger questions are - Is it an actual break from “do what Trump says”? Is it representative of Rs intent to not pass this at all?

Yes I thought it was a point to make since Politico (who I think does a good job) never mentioned it that I saw.

I really don't know. IMO a few R's want to get rid of all the foreign money we are sending gone and will be a no till that happens.
