I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

We now know why Pence is the point person for this, why Tuesday’s Senate hearing was classified, and why there was bipartisan support for more funding than the $2.5B Trump asked for. We may be looking at the beginning of community spread.

We have an evolving situation that Trump can’t handle and can’t delegate any lower than VP without massive criticism from everyone.

Leadership matters! Public funding matters! The failure to staff and prepare for this may be Trump’s legacy and Mike Pence is stepping up to strike out.

The assertion that Pence knows about this stuff just flies in the face of reality. His response as governor of Indiana to an HIV outbreak in southern indiana was woefully slow and inadequate. I was literally baffled by this appointment.

It's really not a good time for everything to be filtered though a lens of hyper-partisanship:

Rush thinks his listeners are complete morons.
The Dems convinced China to quarantine entire cities just to hassle Trump.
    Really?

Apparently we are well prepared for the Coronavirus despite the Democrats claims.

Most of the complaints about Pence also seems to be political.

The public health system has a playbook to follow for pandemic preparation — regardless of who’s president or whether specific instructions are coming from the White House. Those plans were put into place in anticipation of another flu pandemic, but are designed to work for any respiratory-borne disease.

Flip that - what has Pence done thatvtells you he’s the person to spearhead this effort?

They should write another article after the white house presser yesterday evening, lol.

One of the lessons learned in prior crises, such as the anthrax attacks, is not to offer false assurances when scientists have questions about the illness.

Also, maybe the AP needs to dig a little deeper.

so why this? ( if we are SOOOOOO prepared )

Don't listen to the Deep State Never Trumper "Scientists." Science is a lie. We can only believe Mr. Trump, the strongest and most honest person any of us has ever seen.

He told us that it may get big, but he doesn't think it's going to be big.

    I certainly feel reassured.

Reuter’s is reporting that there was a confirmed case last night of the virus and the person had zero risk factors for infection (traveling to the infected places, knowing someone who had, etc). This, coupled with their revelation that a Korean Air flight attendant became sick days after landing at LAX, shows the virus is already here.

If this thing gets pretty bad over here, "the risk to the American people remains very low" might end up being Trump's "the fundamentals of the economy are strong."
