Didn't really see a place for this so I thought I would start a thread about all things LGBTQ since this is a pretty hot topic in our culture right now

I will admit, I was hopeful for this decision by the SCOTUS but I was surprised by the unanimous decision.

While I don't think there is anything wrong, per se, with same sex couples adopting and raising children (I actually think it is a good thing as it not an abortion) but I also did not want to see the state force a religious institution to bend to a societal norm.

510,000, today 10 transgender athletes being reported. Why would we allow 1? 10 today, 20 next year etc...

It's enough that they have to live with the constant disrespect and scorn of people like yourself, but they also have to contend with the rabid anti-trans laws of Republicans. We call Christians out on their constant hypocrisy. That's what you call disrespect. You guys lie about, cast dispersion upon, mock and question their identity and condemn LGBTQ+ people constantly. There's a difference.

BS question. I believe transgender people when they say their biology doesn't match their gender. They deserve to be taken seriously and treated respectfully. That includes not being called the opposite gender they identify as.

I don't belive parents of trans and non-binary kids are abusing their children, they trying to help their children as best they can. They aren't being misled by leftest ideology or immoral LGBTQ+ ideology. They're following the best medical advice and advice from pyschiatrist that's available. I don't know if they get everything right, but I know they're getting much more right than conservative religious ideology.

As for transgendered people competing in sports, I think they should be included in the gender they identify as, as long as competitive balance is maintained. Sports governing authorities are trying to figure out what that balance is now with the best scientific date they have. While I don't know for sure, I believe most are working in good faith.

Well, rights to medical treatment for gender dysphoria have certainly been taken away from trans kids and parents in many states. So like many women that get pregnant, they don't have the right to have control or seek medical care over their own body. Do you have any restrictions in medical care over your body?

of course, when parents toss their less-than-straight kids out on the street (often Christian parents) that seems ok. they figure something like 40 Of homeless teens are lgbtq+ but so much worry about the opposite when the crap done to the kids is real it is just ignored.

Bigots! There will be a constant stream of this during this administration.

But they won't make transgendered people disappear or make LGBTQ+ people hide their identity. It will just piss LGBTQ+ off and make us more militant. They thought we were a pain before and that they have the upper hand now. Just wait! All of this hate will come back two fold on them.

In order for insurance to cover a sex change, lots of things have to happen first (from my understanding) ... psychological exam, counseling, hormone therapy, etc. At some point and criteria (I'm not a doctor), it can be declared a medical necessity. Pretty rare. Otherwise, patients can pay out of pocket.

Everything else you say about mental disease is just callous and I really doubt you have any knowledge or training in mental health. Clearly you've never dealt with a loved one trying to navigate this situation in terms of gender identity and the incredibly high risk of suicide. You come off as the type that would just tell them to kill themselves....

There is already a pretty long tail of steps you need to take for medical transition.

Basically, medical procedures should be evaluated and approved/denied by medical professionals based on continuously improving medical research. That's it. It is not something to vote on by the public.
