Didn't really see a place for this so I thought I would start a thread about all things LGBTQ since this is a pretty hot topic in our culture right now

    https://www.cnbc.com/2021/06/17/sup...y-that-refuses-to-work-with-lgbt-couples.html

    • The Supreme Court on Thursday delivered a unanimous defeat to LGBT couples in a high-profile case over whether Philadelphia could refuse to contract with a Roman Catholic adoption agency that says its religious beliefs prevent it from working with same-sex foster parents.
    • Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in an opinion for a majority of the court that Philadelphia violated the First Amendment by refusing to contract with Catholic Social Services once it learned that the organization would not certify same-sex couples for adoption.

I will admit, I was hopeful for this decision by the SCOTUS but I was surprised by the unanimous decision.

While I don't think there is anything wrong, per se, with same sex couples adopting and raising children (I actually think it is a good thing as it not an abortion) but I also did not want to see the state force a religious institution to bend to a societal norm.

Are we not mature enough to realize that we are all condescending to a degree on this message board? I know personally, I am not a mature person in the slightest, but I can understand this.
I try to be respectful at all times, but I realize that people feel insulted when presented with ideas that contradict their views. This is natural, but ideally we shoulds not take anything personally and move the discussion in a cordial manner. That is how we make progress in the world.

It is almost as if people's opinions have become themselves and an attack on their opinion is felt as an attack on themselves personally.

The interesting thing about that is the kind of person who's truly insecure about their opinions has a tendency to project that onto others, attributing most or all criticism of their opinions to the insecurity of others, and unable to acknowledge that criticism might in fact just be a reflection of the flaws in their own opinions.

That is, if you want to see who's really invested in their opinions as a form of their identity, you can't see it by whether people are criticising the opinions of others and how bluntly they're doing so. To state the obvious, people can call another opinion incoherent and irrational simply because it is incoherent and irrational, not because they're afraid of it.

But you can see it in the people who can't or won't meaningfully engage with criticism of their own opinions and instead resort to deflection about the nature of the criticism, projecting on to those making it. The person who puts forward an incoherent and irrational opinion, avoids engaging with meaningful discussion about it, and instead tries to deflect by suggesting people are insulted or scared? That's the person with the problem.

Or by personal attacks against the person they are having the discussion because they are feeling personally attacked because their position is stupid and they feel it is a insult to them. But yeah, I agree.

If the opinion is truly incoherent and irrational it should be easy to refute the opinion without having to use derogatory words.
    Something, something, liberal snowflakes.

Disclaimer: I have never once read or even know lamag existed and I assume they are left wing because they use the pronoun of 'she' to refer to a dude that has several indecent exposure charges. If this is a right wing alt Qanon site, prove the article is incorrect and I will take it down.

    https://www.lamag.com/citythinkblog/wi-spa-incident-charges-filed/
In an exclusive interview with the New York Post, which first reported on the charges, Merager said she is legally female and that she is the victim of “transphobic harassment.”

“Everything about the Wi Spa was a bunch of garbage and lies,” Merager told the tabloid. Merager added that the person who posted the viral video, who uses the username “Cubana Angel,” never saw her naked because she was underwater “all the way up to [her] chest.”

Court records show that Merager was also charged with seven counts of indecent exposure in 2019, and her trial on those allegations began in July. A source with knowledge of the investigation also told the Los Angeles Times that Merager was convicted of misdemeanor indecent exposure in 2003. The unidentified source said Merager’s criminal record is the reason why prosecutors filed felony charges against her on Monday.

One of the victims was a minor, but the sexual predator feelings come first, amirite!
I remember a lot of people saying this kind of thing will never happen. We said it is a slippery slope. No one will go through this trouble to go into the opposite sex bathroom I was told. This is not the only case but the most recent.

What i see is a guy (yea, this guy isn't trans) who has a past of indecent exposure, committing indecent exposure.

Is the trans rights movement responsible for his 2003 and 2019 incidents?

I don't think any movement is responsible for anything an individual do unless ordered much less a creep like this.
I don think the trans movement is responsible for the aggressive covering for this dude just because he said he was part of their movement. In order to be taken seriously, you have to put in the work and claiming victimhood for something that has nothing to do you does not help the movement look very serious in my eyes.

Also why was Antifa there exactly? To make sure dudes can show genitals (in a mild aroused state) to minors? Never mind. I just answered my own question. Yes, that is exactly why they were there.

You think guys showing their junk to kids is a product of the recent movement against transphobia?

come on, Farb. You don’t believe that. This kind of thing has been happening since cave man days, I’m just sure of it.

It happened when I was a kid to a friend of mine in our neighborhood. Dude pulled up to her while she was walking down the street and called her over to the car for directions or some such excuse. We all got lectures about never talking to strangers after that.

Oh, and yeah for sure one of the main reasons antifa exists is to do stuff like this. Good lord, man.

    🤪

Has Capitalism not reduced poverty and extreme poverty world wide by a staggering amount in the last few decades?
Define poverty. Define development. Define culture. Ask those displaced by the Three Gorges Dam what they think.

You are correct. However, if China had remained a traditional socialist nation people would be starving to death as they did under Mao.
Hmmm. Or the Irish. Or the Okies.

Oh, and nobody gets to know what would have happened. You can make all the guesses you want. They don’t mean a thing. All that means anything is what did happen.

Guys, we still have a few socialists in the planet.
Capitalism is far from perfect and cannot fix inequality. However, there is no better system. Socialism has never worked. When something better comes along I am in.

Thanks but not going to get into this weird word play. If you need a definition of poverty and culture, I am not sure a discussion will be productive.

What is there purpose? Do they exist?

Well, they aren’t an organized religion, (thats a joke) but there are people who identify as anti-fascists, sure. They aren’t really organized, with stupid initiations and rules about masturbation like the fascist organizations have.

If you ask them, they will tell you they exist to fight the people who want to bring fascism to America.

I actually think some of them are sincere, but there is no doubt some of them just like mixing it up in the streets with the ones who also like that sort of thing on the other side.

Not surprising. Do I need one? Nope. Would I like to know how you define poverty? Yup. It helps to highlight your worldview/belief structures/biases.
