Didn't really see a place for this so I thought I would start a thread about all things LGBTQ since this is a pretty hot topic in our culture right now

    • The Supreme Court on Thursday delivered a unanimous defeat to LGBT couples in a high-profile case over whether Philadelphia could refuse to contract with a Roman Catholic adoption agency that says its religious beliefs prevent it from working with same-sex foster parents.
    • Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in an opinion for a majority of the court that Philadelphia violated the First Amendment by refusing to contract with Catholic Social Services once it learned that the organization would not certify same-sex couples for adoption.

I will admit, I was hopeful for this decision by the SCOTUS but I was surprised by the unanimous decision.

While I don't think there is anything wrong, per se, with same sex couples adopting and raising children (I actually think it is a good thing as it not an abortion) but I also did not want to see the state force a religious institution to bend to a societal norm.

This is apparently real. How is it that Rs cannot bring themselves to object to “eradication” of actual American citizens?

Because they are *wrong*. Defective. Perverts. Eeeevil!
Remember, their base believes in a literal Devil and real demons who possess people.
A pack of medieval surfs with guns, who vote like their souls depend on it.

The children of same-sex couples fare just as well, if not better, than those of heterosexual couples, research has shown.

While data on so-called “sexual minority families” is limited, the UK’s Office for National Statistics recorded 212,000 same-sex families in the UK in 2019, a 40% rise since 2015. The number of same-sex parents rose from 4,000 in 2010 to 12,000 in 2013.

A new study backs up previous research, concluding that a child’s development has little to do with their parents’ sexual orientation or gender identity.

“Contrary to many concerns, our review found most family outcomes were similar between these two family types, and sexual minority families have even better outcomes in some domains, such as child psychological adjustment and child-parent relationships,” the researchers wrote.

The findings chime with several other studies, including three decades of research from Australia that revealed children raised by same-sex parents do as well emotionally, socially and educationally as their peers in heterosexual families.

The latest study, published in the journal BMJ Global Health by researchers in the US and China, is based on analysis of 34 studies from countries where same-sex relationships are legal, including the US, UK and parts of Europe.

These studies compared the development of children raised by heterosexual parents with those brought up by lesbian and gay parents – and some studies also included the families of bisexual, queer or transgender parents……

I wonder if the selection bias of only ready, and willing same-sex couples become parents factor in this? I would love to see a study of parents who planned vs same-sex parents. My first thought was honestly I'm sure accidental births by young, and or poor parents aren't knocking it out of the park on the whole.

Posted this in the science thread too

If you think the outrage over transgender is something now wait until we have children with two same sex parents
    ======================
Scientists have created mice with two biological fathers by generating eggs from male cells, a development that opens up radical new possibilities for reproduction.

The advance could ultimately pave the way for treatments for severe forms of infertility, as well as raising the tantalising prospect of same-sex couples being able to have a biological child together in the future.

“This is the first case of making robust mammal oocytes from male cells,” said Katsuhiko Hayashi, who led the work at Kyushu University in Japan and is internationally renowned as a pioneer in the field of lab-grown eggs and sperm……

... because that's what we need, more methods of reproduction.

Yep, they want women back in the home and making babies. You can tell that’s true because while they want more babies they made sure to get rid of the extra child care tax credit.

Many states have enacted or contemplated limits or outright bans on transgender medical treatment, with conservative U.S. lawmakers saying they are worried about young people later regretting irreversible body-altering treatment.

But just how common is regret? And how many youth change their appearances with hormones or surgery only to later change their minds and detransition?

Here’s a look at some of the issues involved.

    WHAT IS TRANSGENDER MEDICAL TREATMENT?

Guidelines call for thorough psychological assessments to confirm gender dysphoria — distress over gender identity that doesn’t match a person’s assigned sex — before starting any treatment.

That treatment typically begins with puberty-blocking medication to temporarily pause sexual development. The idea is to give youngsters time to mature enough mentally and emotionally to make informed decisions about whether to pursue permanent treatment. Puberty blockers may be used for years and can increase risks for bone density loss, but that reverses when the drugs are stopped.

Sex hormones — estrogen or testosterone — are offered next. Dutch research suggests that most gender-questioning youth on puberty blockers eventually choose to use these medications, which can produce permanent physical changes.

So does transgender surgery, including breast removal or augmentation, which sometimes is offered during the mid-teen years but more typically not until age 18 or later.

Reports from doctors and individual U.S. clinics indicate that the number of youth seeking any kind of transgender medical care has increased in recent years.

HOW OFTEN DO TRANSGENDER PEOPLE REGRET TRANSITIONING?

In updated treatment guidelines issued last year, the World Professional Association for Transgender Health said evidence of later regret is scant, but that patients should be told about the possibility during psychological counseling.

Dutch research from several years ago found no evidence of regret in transgender adults who had comprehensive psychological evaluations in childhood before undergoing puberty blockers and hormone treatment.

Some studies suggest that rates of regret have declined over the years as patient selection and treatment methods have improved. In a review of 27 studies involving almost 8,000 teens and adults who had transgender surgeries, mostly in Europe, the U.S and Canada, 1% on average expressed regret. For some, regret was temporary, but a small number went on to have detransitioning or reversal surgeries, the 2021 review said.

Research suggests that comprehensive psychological counseling before starting treatment, along with family support, can reduce chances for regret and detransitioning.

    WHAT IS DETRANSITIONING?

Detransitioning means stopping or reversing gender transition, which can include medical treatment or changes in appearance, or both.

Detransitioning does not always include regret. The updated transgender treatment guidelines note that some teens who detransition “do not regret initiating treatment”because they felt it helped them better understand their gender-related care needs……..

    par for the course
    and "prolific social media commentator"???!!!!

    That's what they're going with?
    =================================================

A Republican lawmaker from Tennessee who has helped pass some of the country’s strictest anti-LGBTQ legislation is facing scrutiny for making suggestive comments on the Instagram page of a 20-year-old drag performer.

Lieutenant Governor Randy McNally left heart and flame emojis with his verified Instagram account under explicit pictures posted to social media by aspiring gay performer Franklyn McClur.

“Finn, you can turn a rainy day into rainbows and sunshine,” Mr McNally wrote using the performer’s nickname, under a close up shot of his behind.

In another video of Mr McClur dancing, Mr McNally commented “Love it”, along with floating heart emojis.

Mr McNally writes “super look Finn” under a separate photo of Mr McClur, who posts under the name Franklyn Superstar, wearing tight shorts.

The social media posts, which had not been taken down on Thursday (9 March), were first reported by The Tennessee Holler.

Dozens of comments on Mr McClur’s Instagram page and elsewhere on social media accused Mr McNally of hypocrisy, after Tennessee last week passed sweeping legislation to criminalise taking part in an “adult cabaret performance” or a drag show on public property.

“The projection. The hypocrisy. Republicans are the threat,” wrote one on Twitter.

A spokesperson for Mr McNally, Adam Kleinheider, told The Independent in a statement that the lieutenant governor was a “prolific social media commentator”...........

How would these gender neutral bathrooms work? Wouldn’t every student want to use a private restroom if they could? Who will pay for these restrooms?

    Cop out answer.

Republican bills aimed at preventing transgender children from transitioning have led to a firestorm of criticism from Democrats and the LQBTQ community. One proposal would allow the state to take a child away from a parent even “at risk” of doing so.

But in this year’s legislative session, the issue is just one part of a larger GOP focus on defining sex and gender in general.

“At its core, it is a reductive worldview that sees people as nothing more than their reproductive organs,” said Brandon Wolf, spokesman for Equality Florida, an LGBTQ advocacy group. “And I’ve never seen a group of people more obsessed with what genitals other people have than the right wing.”

One bill by Rep. Adam Anderson, R-Palm Harbor, HB 1223, has already been dubbed by opponents as “Don’t Say They” because it would prohibit public school students from using pronouns that don’t correspond to their birth gender...............

A companion bill to Fine’s, SB 254, filed by Yarborough, would make it a third-degree felony to provide such treatments to minors.

It also contains a provision granting the state emergency jurisdiction over a child present in the state, even if he or she lives in another state, if someone brought the child to Florida to stop transgender care or to keep the child from being “at risk” of such care.

Ashley Mayfaire, director of the South Florida non-profit group TransSOCIAL, said the bill’s language doesn’t specify who would have the right to take control of a child for that purpose.

“It could be grandparents or parents that don’t have custody rights [given] carte blanche to kidnap,” she said. “... It’s really a horrible way to frame transition care as a form of child abuse.”............

They already have them at a lot of colleges. No open urinals, just stalls with the door and sides going from ceiling to floor, almost like closets.

I’m definitely all for them, but how will schools implement it at the elementary or HS level without major expense? Assuming the cheapest way would be to add one bathroom per floor that’s private, but then how do they monitor use? It would be a nightmare.

    This mom is awesome...

That whole story is awesome. I've been to a few of them, the last one with friends in Rehobath DE.....it was very family friendly......the R's who push this nonsense are the same that want to turn the US into a white Christian nationalist nation....
