Didn't really see a place for this so I thought I would start a thread about all things LGBTQ since this is a pretty hot topic in our culture right now

    https://www.cnbc.com/2021/06/17/sup...y-that-refuses-to-work-with-lgbt-couples.html

    • The Supreme Court on Thursday delivered a unanimous defeat to LGBT couples in a high-profile case over whether Philadelphia could refuse to contract with a Roman Catholic adoption agency that says its religious beliefs prevent it from working with same-sex foster parents.
    • Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in an opinion for a majority of the court that Philadelphia violated the First Amendment by refusing to contract with Catholic Social Services once it learned that the organization would not certify same-sex couples for adoption.

I will admit, I was hopeful for this decision by the SCOTUS but I was surprised by the unanimous decision.

While I don't think there is anything wrong, per se, with same sex couples adopting and raising children (I actually think it is a good thing as it not an abortion) but I also did not want to see the state force a religious institution to bend to a societal norm.

On the violence, did we ever find out who made the bomb threat to Boston Children's?
    Yes, she’s been arrested IIRC.

And - this is your response to death threats? You still have never walked back your initial reaction to the bomb threat - which was approval.

Here’s some of the rest of the thread, just in case you want to see what the people you follow are encouraging:

The dude was wearing fetish prosthetic gear to teach in, to teach children. Are you also ok with a teacher that is transitioning to be a 'male' and they pack a overly large and overly realistic fake penis in their pants where the outline is clearly visible along with the all the known parts of a penis? I hope you would see an issue with that. The fact you can't here is because they told you it was just a bigoted attack on a poor trans person just trying to live their truth. Actually sad.

As a woman, you don't find it offensive that this guy considers the female body to be cartoon like? That is a fetish. That old stonewall protester had it right when he said it was 'woman face'.

Let us try and find a common ground. Do you think it is inappropriate to have an adult act out a fetish of his/her in front of children?
This answers absolutely none of my questions to you.

Why did you post this? What point are you trying to make by posting this? That trans people are all like this? That trans people shouldn’t be allowed near children?

And, you once again have told me what I think - by making a statement that I think this is okay. Why do you feel like you can always put words in my mouth? What gives you that ability?

Nobody thinks this is appropriate-other than the person with the issue. The point being made by the tweet was that this is being amplified by people who are deliberately using it to tar all trans people with this person‘s weirdness. That if it had been inappropriate behavior from a non-trans teacher, these same people wouldn’t pay any attention, but because it’s a trans person they pounce and use it to denigrate all trans people.

It’s just transparently hateful towards trans people.

He said in the article, and I have heard this often, that he is gay and not queer. To be honest, I have no idea what that means, I though they were the same.

Remember the point I was trying to make that you took offense too about getting a bouncer for your voting block? Seems he agrees with me. He is more a fan of the LGB group I guess.

LGB groups are held with the same regard as the Log Cabin Republicans within the larger LGBT community, which is to say very little. The division they're tying to push isn't appreciated or helpful in an sense, so nobody pays attention to them other than the right wing.

If I started a group called Blinds against Braille, and started trying to raise money, would anyone really think I was trying to help blind people?

Would it really make any difference if I happened to also be blind?

Sometimes people want money and attention, and will even cause harm to a group they identify with to obtain those things.

.........District resident Tanner Fairrington told the board that topics like preferred pronouns and gender identity were not suitable for first graders.

“I understand that the policy on educator equity encourages the diversity in educators to reflect the diversity of students in line with the Oregon Educators Equity Act. I also understand that grant funding has encouraged hiring diverse educators,” he said.

“Placing a nonbinary teacher into a first-grade class is in line with that policy only because it is vague. First graders are very early in their development, and I believe that exposure to the complexity of preferred pronouns and gender roles is not appropriate for this age group. It naturally raises questions and encourages questions on the topic, and many parents want these conversations to be had at home and not at school.”

He added, “My wife and I want our children to attend traditional public school, and issues like this are why they do not. I believe middle ground can be found that meets both the goals of currently policies and the needs and wishes of parents and students.”

Fairrington urged the board to create a committee made up of concerned parents and district officials to review board policies and suggested nonbinary teachers be placed with older grade levels.

“If children are being asked to use preferred pronouns, are they also being informed that they have a right under the First Amendment to not use preferred pronouns?” he asked the board.

David Sours of Jacksonville said he was in support of “efforts to explore ways that LGBTQ students and staff can learn and teach along with everyone else without having to sacrifice who they are.”............

Yes, the old tired troupe of if you disagree with me that children should not be given permanent life altering biological drugs and surgeries for a mental illness, then you must and want people to die, because, if you disagree with me, you are evil.

I did I do that right? And you worry about my sources. LOL

If these people want to support and can offer valid medical reason for a giving 14 year old hormone drugs and cut off healthy breasts of a 16 year old to treat gender dysphoria, then they need to explain it without all the 'people will die' screeching.

If this is such a good thing, why did Vanderbilt and Boston take down all the information for their trans health clinics? Simple, no one was supposed to notice and if you did, the shrill cry of 'bigot' was suppose to stop any more snooping around.
Farb, since you care so much about the research and reasoning behind trans healthcare, why not, you know, go ahead and read it? Because despite what you apparently, somehow, believe, it's not based on doctors going, "Oooh, I dunno, maybe choppy choppy? Let's give it a shot!" and patients (and potentially their parents) going, "Sure, why not? Chop away!" It's very much evidence-based care. There's interdisciplinary professional organizations dedicated to it. You can start here, with the Standards of Care for the Health of Transsexual, Transgender, and Gender Nonconforming People published by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, and its many pages of references:

Just so I am clear, anyone that has a different opinion from you is an apologist?
No. Those who apologize for their religion's behavior are apologists. And BTW, I didn't come up with the term apologetics, Christians did, and it is defined as the branch of theology that is concerned with defending or proving the truth of Christian doctrines.

Funny you ask if that picture was taken by a lefty on lefty film. The answer might be maybe?
    Really?
Do you know where the, proven false rumor' of Pope Pious being 'Hitler's Pope' started? The Soviet Union in 1944 or 45. The New York Times condemned the article as outlandish propaganda.
What was the jewish view of Pope Pious XII? Overwhelming support for his covert and not so covert efforts and success in saving hundred of thousands of jews from the Nazis.
You have been fed some lies.
The myth of the 'Golden Age of Islam' is from the same cloth as the myth of the 'dark ages'.
    Neither is a myth.
I think that science and technological advancement by the west that far outpaces all other civilization happened because of Christianity or more precisely because of the catholic church.
    History is very clear.

As most politics are. Is there a freedom of speech type protection in MX constitution or founding documents? I honestly I have no idea.

The MX Constitution actually has separate articles for individual freedom of speech and freedom of the press.

However, the current MX president is very prone to tantrums against the press and individuals who disagree with him and call him out on the stupid shirt he does and says, including public opinion persecutions that infringe in the private lives of some news people. You can hear all about it in his weekly segment "Who is who in lies told", during his press conference, which happens M-F every morning. It's like Trump, but in Leftist and much better organized; he brings Powerpoints....

On the public side, MX is not #1 in many things, but we are leading the way in news reporters murdered, 16 so far in 2022, many, but not all, narco related. And, because of the president's disdain for and verbal attacks on news media, they are not given the attention they should.

    What the hell?

Wasn’t sure what thread to put this in

Bolding mine - you should have some serious questions if your asked to sign something with that clause in it

it sounds like it says “I’m down for whatever”
    ==================================

More than 2,000 public school students in Louisiana were told earlier this week that they were going to a college fair. They were then shuttled to what parents later deemed a sexist and transphobic church event which left many of the students traumatized.

On Tuesday, more than 2,100 high school seniors from the East Baton Rouge Parish School System – which serves residents of Louisiana’s capital – were taken to the local Living Faith Christian Center under the promise that they would receive college and career advice, as well as free food.

The Christian nonprofit organization 29:11 Mentoring Program organized the event, calling it “Day of Hope,” the Baton Rouge Advocatereported. The permission slips distributed to students promised “free food”, “fun and games”, “college fair” and “special guest”.

But, ominously, the bottom of the slips also read: “I agree to release and hold harmless 2911 Academy, any and all affiliated organizations, their employees, agents and representatives, including volunteer and other drivers from any and all claims arising from or relating to student’s participation.”

What followed, according to some attendees, was an egregious erasure of the separation of church and state that some once thought was central to the US’s identity.

Organizers separated the students by their assumed gender once they got to the event, according to Brittney Bryant, a teacher and mother of a transgender student who also attended the event.

“Boys were instructed to go outside while the girls were left in the church for ‘girl talk’. My transgender child was discriminated against for walking out. I stayed and listened to the discussion. They talked about rape, forgiving the offender in life, suicide, prayer leadership, and many more dark controversial topics. We had females in the bathrooms crying due to the topics of discussion,” Bryant, who acted as a chaperone for the event, later wrote on Facebook.

“Meanwhile the boys were left outside in the extreme heat. The boys then were escorted in and the girls outside. The boys’ topic was titled ‘real talk’. From the beginning no topics were discussed but began male chauvinistic competition for monetary reward for winners. Then proceeded to compete [in] push ups for more money.”

Bryant added that transgender students who attended the event were bullied by other students. “Other students poured water on top of transgender students heads without any repercussions by any of the adults present,” she said……..

All of my kids permissions slips for field trips now come with similar "release and hold harmless" statements for everything under the sun here in San Antonio. And they also add a clause that I would have to indemnify the school district, regardless who's at fault, if they have to defend the school for something involving my child. I cross that crap out and initial it and then sign the permissions slip. I tell my kid that if the teacher or administrators have a problem with it to tell them to call me. Screw that crap, you better believe that if they do something wrong to my kid, I'm going to hold them accountable and sue if it's warranted. And there's no way I'm paying the school to defend itself if whatever happens isn't caused by my kid.

I don't know if that'd fly in this brave new world of 100% compliance, but certainly the alternative of using the actual names instead of pronouns (which again, I don't really get what the big whoop is about pronouns) should be clarified as well.

I'd think 1st graders would be better served with teaching them reading and math, perhaps a new language.

My initial response was it didn't happen, then that it was a lefty doing it to manufacture the 'extremism' your side has promised you.

Maybe you are right. Educate me. At what age does WPAth recommend beginning pubertally blocks and removal of healthy breasts?

Since you believe that 'some men' can have babies, can you point me to t e study that shows the long term or short term side effects of the drugs that being used off label on minors? Can you find those? So maybe 'ohh, I dunno, maybe choppy choppy...because look at the money money' is appropriate.
Unless you think the medical industry is not about making money and only in for the good and moral reason of treating all of us out of love? Do you believe that?

Well, the school board is supporting him, so not everyone thinks it is inappropriate. And if you question a school board, you get investigated by the FBI

So, what are parents to do? I think it is pretty obvious. Nothing.

School boards get shirt wrong all the time. Just like all the school boards across the country banning book. Just like the school board in Baton Rouge lying to their seniors and parents and sending students to a Christian indoctrination day at a church. The FBI may well be investigating those school boards soon for violating the students 1st amendment rights.

I do think there is difference between apologizing and standing up against lies about your religion that was mainly started by an enemy that religion.
Yes, that makes sense, Christian theology is exact reason that science and reason have come together to propel the west past all the others.

This could be one that is fairly easy to argue and reach a conclusion ( for example whether God exist will never be solved much less on a message board but if Pope Pious was actually favoring and aiding the Nazis should be straight forward.

Sorry bro, but both are myth unless you if you consider conquest to part of a golden age, which could be debatable as that is what caused the 'golden age' so I guess it did happen, just the cause was different. Dark ages were far from dark and is/was the foundation for scientific advancement

Is it though? History is written by the 'winners' and over time, we have learned to look past the presentation and look at the truth and sometime the learned history is incorrect. Same here. The Dark Ages was taken as written in stone, we know now that it was a myth and why the myth was created.

A transgender teacher in Maryland settled a harassment and discrimination lawsuit with officials in Prince George’s County schools, in an agreement that her lawyers said includes improvements in policies, procedures and training to protect transgender students and staff.

Jennifer Eller, who left the school system in 2017, also received financial compensation, according to her attorneys, who said they could not disclose the sum under the agreement.

Eller said in an interview that she was “overwhelmed” after nearly four years of litigation and incidents of harassment going back more than a decade.
“The most important part of all of this for me is that there can be protections in place for trans adults and trans youth,” she said.

“We live in a time when there’s so much legislation and argument and fear around transgender people. To have policies and procedures in place that help create a welcoming environment — there is nothing can match the relief and joy I feel knowing that these things are in place.”

Eller’s settlement comes as LGBTQ people have been under attack by governors and legislators around the country. In Virginia, the administration of Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) recently instructed schools to no longer allow students to use bathrooms and locker rooms in line with their gender identity.

New state guidance says students should use school facilities and participate in sports according to the sex they were assigned at birth. It was a major setback for transgender students, but it is unclear if the move was legal, and some school systems have vowed to resist it…….
