I figured we needed a thread specifically about the media.

There was a very big correction recently by the Washington Post.

That story was supposedly "independently confirmed" by CNN, NBC News, USA Today, ABC News, & PBS News Hour. How could they all have gotten the quote wrong if they actually independently confirmed the story?

Why do all the errors always go in one political direction and not closer to 50/50?

In this case, we cannot continue operating these stores because theft and organized retail crime are threatening the safety of our team and guests, and contributing to unsustainable business performance.

I wonder if it is a coincidence that these stores were trying to unionize.

Just like the two Starbucks they "closed due to safety"

Seriously you really don't want to compare the success and failures of PNW vs Southern cities. It won't go well for you.

No you posted the Cato Institute's opinion on the Government's Report.

You do know the difference right?
    Apparently you don't. Let's compare

    Cato:

. Over the next 75 years, U.S. taxpayers face nearly $80 trillion in long‐term unfunded obligations. What’s more, 95 percent of this unfunded obligation is driven by only two federal government programs: Medicare and Social Security.

Financial Report of the United States Government:

So you acknowledge you posted the opinion of the Cato Institute

    I appreciate your apology

You are posting a news article and I posted the actual report from the government. Why would you be referring to an article, when we have a government report that shows what you claim isn't true is actually true?
No it doesn’t dispute anything I posted. As I said before, you are conflating different things, your figures are not talking about the deficit at all. It’s so tiresome, honestly. Social Security and Medicare have nothing to do with deficit spending.

it is unsurprirsing to see his lack of economic awareness rival that of his congressional procedural awareness.

But im sure he is feverishly searching the twitters for more disinfo.

A majority of Black Americans say that their communities are unfairly depicted in news coverage, according to a sweeping new survey on Wednesday.

Nearly two-thirds of respondents observed that their community received more negative coverage than other racial and ethnic groups, the Pew Research Center survey found. Roughly four in 10 surveyed said that the media not only stereotyped Black people but also felt that they saw racist and racially insensitive coverage sometimes or fairly often.

The center’s findings reflect the shortfalls of a so-called racial reckoning that swept through newsrooms across the United States in 2020 following the murder of George Floyd, when news outlets focused on hiring for roles centering diversity and inclusion and reporters and editors focused on covering communities traditionally underrepresented in news coverage.

The latest survey indicates that the so-called reckoning inside newsrooms has struggled to reach the communities that they are meant to serve, including as the news business continues to experience layoffs, and failed to change the way communities feel about the coverage they receive.

Charles Whitaker, dean of the Northwestern University’s Medill school of journalism told the Associated Press he was unsurprised by the findings.

He echoed the lack of nuance in coverage as a longstanding feeling among Black Americans who feel they are often portrayed as either victims of crimes or those who commit them. “We’ve known both anecdotally, and through my personal experience with the Black press, that Blacks have long been dissatisfied with their coverage,” he said.

The center surveyed nearly 5,000 adults over the winter to get their opinion on how Black Americans felt about how their communities are covered in the news media. The feelings of unfair coverage cut across political lines with Black Democrats and Republicans feeling very similar about how news coverage stereotyped Black communities.

More than two-thirds of Black adults surveyed noted that educating journalists about the history and context surrounding the issues facing their communities played a vital role in helping to improve coverage.………

Can you specifically point out what's incorrect in the government report that I posted? I understand why you and Coolbrees are focusing on Cato. It's simply an attempt to deflect, because as I posted previously the Cato blog says the exact same thing as the government report.

I'm not surprised that you would deny figures from a government report. No matter what evidence is posted you claim otherwise.

They both say the same thing, but keep your head in the sand if it makes you feel better.
But they are not talking about the deficit in relation to Social Security and/or Medicare, can you at least admit that piece of truth?

I’m not saying the government report is incorrect, I’m saying your interpretation of what it is talking about is incorrect.

It says the government expenditures for Social Security and Medicare is projected to exceed revenues by 75.9 trillion.

75.9 trillion in unfunded liabilities for Social Security and Medicare.

Yes, and it isn’t part of the deficit. Has nothing to do with the deficit. This is what I am trying to tell you. And the budget process Rs are struggling with right now will have zero effect on this.

What they (and the tweet you erroneously attributed to being an "arm of the Democrat Party" for simply posting a fact) are trying to get through to you is that yes, what you posted is correct: OASDI and Medicare will not be able to be funded fully at their current levels. Boomers will retire and grow older and get sick, and birth rates are not high enough to produce more workers and thus more revenue in the future, so the outflow of those programs will exceed the projected inflow for years and years into the future.

The thing is: these two items do NOT add to the deficit. If it really happened that Social Security didn't have enough funds to pay out their obligations, then the obligations would not be fully met. We wouldn't go into debt to pay them. If the trust fund amount goes to $0, and the input into Social Security is say $100 Billion a year, and the amount that is supposed to be paid is $150 billion a year, then the benefits would be reduced by 33% to make them $100 billion a year and the program would continue on.

Those tweets that you replied to and said "That's not true" were absolutely true, and your post claiming them as not true was absolutely false. It's OK to admit you were mistaken about something instead of being all Trumpian and doubling down on being factually deficient.

So this chyron is a lie - this is a non-union plant, these workers aren’t on strike. And Trump is either too stupid to realize this or is helping to perpetuate the lie by telling these non-union workers that he hopes their UAW bosses will endorse him (a zero percent chance of that happening, btw).

Okay - it’s a deliberate deception. They provided the non-union workers with union signs to wave.

This is stupid, even for Trump

Once again, these people are not on strike. If Biden did this, the Rs would be howling for the 25th Amendment.

This is a true test of how gullible or stupid are Trump supporters:

Just like the paid crowd for that escalator announcement. Or how he fooled casino executives by having trucks circle around the construction site so that they'd believe that everything would be on schedule. He's always a con artist.
