Didn't really see a place for this so I thought I would start a thread about all things LGBTQ since this is a pretty hot topic in our culture right now

    https://www.cnbc.com/2021/06/17/sup...y-that-refuses-to-work-with-lgbt-couples.html

    • The Supreme Court on Thursday delivered a unanimous defeat to LGBT couples in a high-profile case over whether Philadelphia could refuse to contract with a Roman Catholic adoption agency that says its religious beliefs prevent it from working with same-sex foster parents.
    • Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in an opinion for a majority of the court that Philadelphia violated the First Amendment by refusing to contract with Catholic Social Services once it learned that the organization would not certify same-sex couples for adoption.

I will admit, I was hopeful for this decision by the SCOTUS but I was surprised by the unanimous decision.

While I don't think there is anything wrong, per se, with same sex couples adopting and raising children (I actually think it is a good thing as it not an abortion) but I also did not want to see the state force a religious institution to bend to a societal norm.

Oh, yes. What would be of Western civilization without the influence of drag queens? We would've never known Milli Vanilli.

Personally, I'd have gone with Lady Gaga over Madonna, but that's just me.

Madonna, Lady Gage, Beyonce, Rihanna, Billy Idol, Queen, David Bowie .... Take your pick. The list is very long, but Milli Vanilli isn't a really part of it.

You gave me specific examples of extremists' protests during what we can call mainstream events in schools, libraries, etc. attended by people outside the group in question. That's not marginalization.
Oh for crying out loud. Of course drag queens have a history of being marginalized by this society.

Tell you what. If you know some guy who's looking for a job right now tell him to interview in drag.

I have no idea what the list of banned (or potentially banned) books looks like. I wouldn't be shocked if it were on a bunch of lists, though. What's your point?
I see a lot of false claims of book banning and such from the left but no one can show us that ask questions, what books are 'banned' and why. Just more false narratives I guess.

Quite nicely. You both lack objectivity. Of course, in her case it's more detrimental to the nation because it taints her interpretation of the law.
it is a detriment because she is an originalist? I get you want only RGBs and other progressive on the court, as I want conservatives on the court, but to label those you disagree with as someone who lacks objectivity, well, that simply lacks objectivity.

Are you saying that drag is now trans? Otherwise, I am lost why anyone would think it is appropriate to interview for a job in a costume. Drag is not a 'gender' despite how watered down the TQ+ group wants to champion it as one.

"What cross-dressing means can vary a lot from individual to individual."

Still not a list that I can research.

I am not. I know some are and my hope is many many more will follow. Do you have a list?

Do you think all books are appropriate to be in a school library? Can you think of a book that should be banned from school libraries?

It finally seems that serious adults and Medical professionals are now entering this conversation. And I thought Europe was lost...

    https://www.dailywire.com/news/spains-medical-societies-revolt-against-proposed-transgender-law
Leading medical institutions in Spain are speaking out against the newly proposed “Trans Law” that would allow minors to self-declare as transgender and access irreversible medical transition procedures.

Bernard Lane, a Sydney-based independent journalist, recently published two stories on his Substack, Gender Clinic News, about Spain waking up to “gender contagion” and the medical experts who are leading a “revolt” against it.

According to Lane’s reporting, the second largest printed daily newspaper in Spain, El Mundo, published a story on its front page last week with the headline: “Psychiatrists explode against the Trans Law: It can bring a lot of pain and regret to many people.”

    for what it's worth

This counters most everything else I've read on this
    ===============

Most children who believe that they are transgender are just going through a “phase”, the NHS has said, as it warns that doctors should not encourage them to change their names and pronouns.

NHS England has announced plans for tightening controls on the treatment of under 18s questioning their gender, including a ban on prescribing puberty blockers outside of strict clinical trials.

The services, which will replace the controversial Tavistock clinic, will be led by medical doctors rather than therapists and will consider the impact of other conditions such as autism and mental health issues.

The plans, which are currently under public consultation, are for an interim service for young people with gender dysphoria whilst Dr Hilary Cass continues her review into the treatment offered by the NHS.

They note that there is a need to change the services because there is currently “scarce and inconclusive evidence to support clinical decision-making”.

NHS England says that the interim Cass Report has advised that even social transition, such as changing a young person’s name and pronouns or the way that they dress, is not a “neutral act” that could have “significant effects” in terms of “psychological functioning”............

Link seems to be dead, but what it's worth is essentially nothing. It appears to be a Fox News rehash of a Telegraph misrepresentation of reality.

As always, especially when you see right-wing reporting on the NHS, it's better to go straight to the source. E.g.

I'm not going to go through the whole misreporting - because pretty much every part of is at best misleading and at worst just plain wrong - but to give one example, as you can see in the NHS link, the "ban on prescribing puberty blockers" for under 18s isn't anything of the sort. First, what it is, relates to under 16s, second, it's not limiting their use to "strict clinical trials," it's expanding clinical research to include everyone using them, with wider availability to care through regional services rather than the one centralised service, and while that's being set up, it's continuing to provide them under the current NHS protocols. Some 'ban'.

So as anyone can see, what the NHS is actually doing is expanding and improving services for gender care, since the existing service was centralised, isolated, and overwhelmed. You'd get the impression from the right-wing coverage they're doing the opposite. But the reality is more funding, more services, and more support.
