I guess it's time to start a thread for this. We know that at least 140 members of Congress have pledged to join the objection. Under federal law, if at least one member of each house (HOR and Senate) objects, each house will adjourn the joint session for their own session (limited at two hours) to take up the objection. If both houses pass a resolution objecting to the EC result, further action can take place. If both houses do not (i.e. if one or neither passes a resolution), the objection is powerless and the college result is certified.

Clearly this is political theater as we know such a resolution will not pass the House, and there's good reason to think it wouldn't pass the Senate either (with or without the two senators from Georgia). The January 6 joint session is traditionally a ceremonial one. This one will not be.

Many traditional pillars of Republican support have condemned the plan as futile and damaging. Certainly the Trump loyalists don't care - and many are likely doing it for fundraising purposes or to carry weight with the fraction of their constituencies that think this is a good idea.

I don’t think anyone can convince Trump of anything. This is just him reading the room and realizing his freedom and profiteering are hanging in the balance. Him telling his supporters that “this is just the beginning of their journey together” means get your checkbooks out cause I have a Presidential Library to build, a news channel to start, a PAC, and a campaign fund for 2024 on the way.

No, I think he was convinced. I am fairly certain what was said boiled down to "You are going to go out and read..LOOK AT ME!!....you are going to go out and read this speech, and if you say a single word that isn't on the teleprompter, you will stop being president before the next syllable comes out of your mouth."

Heck...even Trey Gowdy is calling Trump out....that's something I didn't expect...

He gets no credit either, he left congress because, as leader of the House Oversight Committee, it would have been his job to hold trump accountable. That, and, his 55738893 BENGAZI!1! investigations took a lot outta him.

It's as much as you'll ever get from him.
I know we won't get more from him, but the point is that his administration has already parsed the meaning of a peaceful transition to mean it could be another Trump administration. I have not heard anyone in the media point out that Pompeo said essentially the same thing, but it wasn't a concession.

He tells his supporters that he knows they are disappointed, he’s not trying to play word games, imo.

I hope that Pence has 25th amendment papers ready to sign and will hold that over him from now until he flies away to Florida before the inauguration.

I think he knows he doesn’t want anything to happen that will prevent him from announcing his candidacy on Jan. 20. 🙄

Trump’s presidential library will be a cell phone, a tv and a toilet.

Reason 2,678,546 to hate entitled arrogant butthead Josh Hawley. His book contract was canceled by the publisher because of the negative publicity he generated when he played his little sedition game. Ivy League lawyer calls it a straight up assault on the First Amendment, 😡, maybe he paid someone to take his bar?
