I guess it's time to start a thread for this. We know that at least 140 members of Congress have pledged to join the objection. Under federal law, if at least one member of each house (HOR and Senate) objects, each house will adjourn the joint session for their own session (limited at two hours) to take up the objection. If both houses pass a resolution objecting to the EC result, further action can take place. If both houses do not (i.e. if one or neither passes a resolution), the objection is powerless and the college result is certified.

Clearly this is political theater as we know such a resolution will not pass the House, and there's good reason to think it wouldn't pass the Senate either (with or without the two senators from Georgia). The January 6 joint session is traditionally a ceremonial one. This one will not be.

Many traditional pillars of Republican support have condemned the plan as futile and damaging. Certainly the Trump loyalists don't care - and many are likely doing it for fundraising purposes or to carry weight with the fraction of their constituencies that think this is a good idea.

Supposedly that was the line that security was going to hold. They had announced anyone who went through would be shot and they were clear about it. It’s all on her.

Yeah, that was an area they were adamant about defending. Lady crossed the line and paid with her life. They don't mess around once they feel the security of the people they're protecting is threatened. Not much different than what the secret service would do in protecting secure areas in the WH.

50 police were injured yesterday, attacked by metal pipes, etc...
That's horrible. I wonder how many rioters were hurt? I also wonder if Trump will issue a pardon to all involved in the riots? If he does, then it will embolden that crowd to do it again, and possibly worse, during the inauguration. He can pardon up until Biden says I do, so the Trumpers can cause chaos and hurt lots of people and property in efforts to disrupt the transfer of power, and yet face no consequences. He would have to issue the pardon soon to signal that they have nothing to worry about. They could even kill people intentionally without consequences. Also, what if Trump doesn't call up the National Guard next time? The possibility of him pardoning these terrorists and not doing everything possible to protect the inauguration is reason enough to remove him before the inauguration.

Good job from whoever wrote that and placed it in front of him.

yeah my first thought too. Theres no way he wrote that himself. And he is full of shirt that he immediately deployed anything. He is the one that caused all this shirt. Him and his "lets walk to the capital! I'll be there with you!"

Not really a concession but about as close as you will get to one with him. Feel like he was being threatened with the 25th if he doesn't make a speech.

Yeah, I caught it partially underway and didn’t, at the time, realize it was a recorded message.

This is honestly more than I ever expected from him and agree it was likely done under pressure. I think it’s probably a desperate effort to cling to the shreds of his legacy and in his mind, live to fight another day.

Legacy? Good luck with that... :melike:

I have a hunch Pence was the one who convinced him. He seemed angry about what he's had to deal with the last 2 days.

I don’t think anyone can convince Trump of anything. This is just him reading the room and realizing his freedom and profiteering are hanging in the balance. Him telling his supporters that “this is just the beginning of their journey together” means get your checkbooks out cause I have a Presidential Library to build, a news channel to start, a PAC, and a campaign fund for 2024 on the way.
