Let’s be honest, the Republicans think you guys want Venezuela and Soviet Union and the Democrats think we want Nazi Germany when in actuality we want normalcy. Social media and bad journalism is what creating the mess here.
    I disagree, and here's why.

Very very few national Democratic elected leaders are saying that Republicans want Nazi Germany (they might say Trump is being an authoritarian in that style, but let's be honest -- Trump *is*). However, many national Republican elected leaders are saying the Democrats want Venezuela style socialism or communism. It's not even close in the numbers of actual leaders who are pushing these ideas.

Ah, shirt, we thought we had him beat but then he just started "hereby claiming" states. Checkmate, libs.

You don’t see a lot of Republicans voting for trump you see a lot of Republicans voting against the left. There is a big difference. Trump will be an afterthought of the Republicans a year from now. He will go back to business and that’s it. The right isn’t radicalizing anymore than the left is. I didn't think the majority of the Republican party want Nazi Germany until Trump won. Is there anything comparable in the Democratic party to make you think we want the Soviet Union or Venezuela?

I mean... people point to AOC but she's one Congresswoman with little relative power versus the President of the United States who throws campaign functions at the White House and uses the Department of Justice and National Intelligence to attack his political enemies.

This is interesting, I glanced at that race this morning. I thought he had lost. I can't believe Collins got reelected as well. I do wonder what excuse Democrats are going to conjure up as to why they underperformed so badly. You really can't go further to the center. The contrast is of course multiple progressive ballots initiatives once again passed nationwide.
It seems weird to me -- candidates who hold liberal positions are not performing well and losing more than expected. However, the actual liberal positions when put to a vote of the people in many states are outperforming the candidates and winning.

I mean, Florida voted to increase minimum wage to $15 and that got like ~6.5 million votes, but Biden and Trump both got less than 5.7 million votes total. Obviously people who voted for Trump also voted to raise minimum wage, which is a mind boggling case of cognitive dissonance.

How about we get back to talking policy and issues. This type of banter gets nowhere

I see this particular thread as like a SR.com gameday thread where everyone reacts and overreacts to the play by play of what is currently going on and calls for everyone to get fired or cut immediately rather than a thread to discuss policy and issues. Certain folks stopped by to do a lot of chirping here last night when they thought Trump was up by 25 in the third quarter so it's time for some of us to have fun. There will be another day for policy and issues.

I like presidents who don't serve only one term.

I don't think AOC wants Venezuela nor the Soviet Union. I'm pretty sure she would be happy with the Netherlands. Is that what Republicans are so opposed to that they would risk losing our democracy to a wanna-be authoritarian that wants to destroy all checks and balances to keep himself in office?

Most of those with cognitive dissonance are Republicans that have bought into the fear of Socialism. Ironic.

There is a significant part of the population that is socially conservative and fiscally liberal. In a general election they will go with their cultural team, but on individual issues they will vote for liberal policies on an individual basis.
