The primaries don't use the electoral college, so he'd have gotten the nomination regardless.

If we had true proportional representation in the EC, I'm fairly sure he'd have lost, but not positive.

Sure, but the RNC, if they're smart about election strategy, would know that Trump would have no shot without the EC and would push for a different candidate instead. Either that, or Trump uses a different strategy for the overall popular vote.

But, it's mostly just guesswork on my part. Campaigns would look much, much different if the President were a popular vote. The southern strategy would never have worked with a popular vote.

I think there is a slight misunderstanding. I was talking about the damage he has done to the office of the presidency, by way of all the shirt he has said and done the past 4 years etc. I know there are some that are like "I never trusted the government to being with" but I always viewed those as a small %... now enters trump: and I bet that number has exploded to a vastly larger number. So its not about him, but the lasting damage he has done to anyone else elected after him

Maybe, but the office has weathered some terrible Presidents before and probably will again in the future. Human nature. While I do think there's damage done, I don't think it will bleed all that much into future administrations. Each new administration has to establish their own identity. I'm sure that would be the case if Biden becomes President.

Clearly, 2020 isn't done with us yet. :covri:

The statement that "I definitively had no knowledge of Hope Hicks' diagnosis" before she did her regular maskless press briefing on Thursday is some interesting CYA. A follow up question might be why she and other people in the White House were not told about that diagnosis. (The answer is Trump, Ivanka and Jared immediately decided to try to hide it.)

Remember when some people were basically wanting to bury the bar underground so Trump could find a way over it and blame liberals for not holding themselves to a higher standard to help walk Trump over it?

Donald Trump’s erratic and reckless behavior in the last 24 hours has opened a rift in the Trump family over how to rein in the out-of-control president, according to two Republicans briefed on the family conversations. Sources said Donald Trump Jr. is deeply upset by his father’s decision to drive around Walter Reed National Military Medical Center last night with members of the Secret Service while he was infected with COVID-19. “Don Jr. thinks Trump is acting crazy,” one of the sources told me. The stunt outraged medical experts, including an attending physician at Walter Reed.
According to sources, Don Jr. has told friends that he tried lobbying Ivanka Trump, Eric Trump, and Jared Kushner to convince the president that he needs to stop acting unstable. “Don Jr. has said he wants to stage an intervention, but Jared and Ivanka keep telling Trump how great he’s doing,” a source said. Don Jr. is said to be reluctant to confront his father alone. “Don said, ‘I’m not going to be the only one to tell him he’s acting crazy,’” the source added.
One area where the family seems united is over the president’s manic tweeting early Monday morning. After Trump sent out more than a dozen all-caps tweets, the Trump children told people they want Trump to stop. “They’re all worried. They’ve tried to get him to stop tweeting,” a source close to the family told me.

Worth also keeping in mind that Dexamethasone, I am told, can do a number on the body and mind. Which Trump has supposedly been treated with. It is a steroid to prevent inflammation and it can give a sustained burst of energy and euphoric feelings, but can also lead to insomnia and some temporary manic behaviors on the come down.

....Also, remember when the zeitgeist and the pundits kept proclaiming Jared and Ivanka were the good ones, that they would be the moderating forces for the president. Lol

The RNC all but pulled their funding for his campaign in 2016. They wanted anyone but DJT. Problem was, nobody stepped up.

I'm no fan of Don Jr. But, he does seem to be the only one on message. He's the younger, focused version of his dad. He also has to think of the brand after his dad is no longer with us. They are likely going to push so hard to start their own media company after Trump's presidency.

Yeah, I agree no one really stepped up to the plate. But...having so many at the debates allowed Trump to stand apart from the other goofy fools on stage. I was disappointed that Kasich never really got enough traction. Had he run and won in 2016, I think he'd be in the driver's seat now. But much of the Republican party has gone off the reservation. Meh.

So it really looks like the ceremonies for Barrett are the beginning of this spread event. But who was patient zero?
