More than a month after House Republicans surprised Washington by advancing their framework for Trump’s $4.5 trillion in tax breaks and $2 trillion in spending cuts, Senate Republicans voted Thursday to start working on their version. The largely party-line vote, 52-48, sets the stage for a potential Senate all-nighter Friday spilling into the weekend.

We will hear and watch those “concerned” Republicans who made the tough decision to support this monstrous bill over the next few days….hopefully enough of their constituents see through the BS and can them right out come the mid terms.

My wife and I work full time and our family depends on Medicaid and its services to care for our two autistic special needs children. We would lose our home if we lose what medi-Cal gives our children each month. The myth from the right is that Medicaid will not hurt families like mine. It’s a lie. The right can choose to believe that these cuts will not deeply affect a wide swath of Americans if they want to keep their heads in the sand. These are devastating.
I think the state of California will fill any gaps left by Trump and the Republicans. They stepped up for us when the Afforable Care Act was weakened. There's a reason we call it Medi-Cal instead of just Medicaid.

I've been trying to talk my father into moving here to CA, because if he did then Medi-Cal would cover nursing home care if he needs it and they would allow him to keep his property in LA. CA has either stopped or will soon stop considering assets as disqualifying for long term care coverage. He won't even consider it, because he's determined to die in his house. I hope it works out for him that way, but it's not looking like it will.

Lapaz China is making use of a basic human cognitive ability humans have to be able to copy the activities they see other humans doing.

I copy what I see others doing, and then I am able to do what they do.

Wind blows, and sea waves crash onto shore lines, and Chinese people will continue to do as all the rest of us also do. Copying what other humans do is a human basic behaviour.

I am what I've seen others do, and you are what you've seen others do.

My point being what you've said above is a red herring. It was something else, it was not a Chinese theft.
It was reverse engineering and every human does it in some aspect.

I truly hope so, but we just had to fight Newsom’s initial budget that was going to strip out billions for medi-cal in state. I’ve spent the past few months contacting at least 100 CA Assembly persons and State Senators about Newsoms original request and as of this Friday, Newsom and the State legislators agreed to take out the funding cuts that would have been devastating to our son’s programs. The fear is these cuts could come right back depending on what Trump does to State funding for Medicaid.

I still believe that California is one of the best States for caring for its Citizens….but we are not out of the danger by a long shot.

My understanding on the assets was they wanted to lower the asset limit to 2k. They are fighting that:

Goodluck with your dad btw. These are crazy times indeed.

Glad you helped get it taken out and I hope it stays out. Newsom has turned on us ever since he started positioning himself for the 2028 presidential election.

He picked the real estate owners side on every ballot measure meant to keep housing costs down and increase the amount of affordable housing. I hope we get a super progressive candidate for governor who has no presidential aspirations.

As long as the tech billionaires are headquartered here, we will have to push back against them.

Thanks for the info and good luck wish. I looked into it and found that Newsom was trying to get a reinstatement of the “asset test” that would include evaluations on bank accounts, cash, second vehicles and second homes. The good news is that the Assembly wouldn't agree to that so it's been taken out of the budget agreement.

January 2027 and getting Newsum out of office can't come quick enough and I will not vote for him in any presidential primary ever.

Agreed, I am no fan of Newsom. He proposed a lot of the cutting that he is now warning everyone about in Trumps bill. I voted for him as Governor but that ended with his recent shenanigans. He lost me and any support that he had with my future votes.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The changes made to President Donald Trump’s big tax bill in the Senate would pile trillions onto the nation’s debt load while resulting in even steeper losses in health care coverage, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said in a new analysis, adding to the challenges for Republicans as they try to muscle the bill to passage.

The CBO estimates the Senate bill would increase the deficit by nearly $3.3 trillion from 2025 to 2034, a nearly $1 trillion increase over the House-passed bill, which CBO has projected would add $2.4 to the debt over a decade.

The analysis also found that 11.8 million more Americans would become uninsured by 2034 if the bill became law, an increase over the scoring for the House-passed version of the bill, which predicts 10.9 million more people would be without health coverage.

The stark numbers are yet another obstacle for Republican leaders as they labor to pass Trump’s bill by his self-imposed July 4th deadline……..

I think Trump and his Republicans have backed themselves into a no win corner with this budget bill. If they pass it, then 2026 will be very bad for them because of the suffering they will inflict on the overwhelming majority of us. If they back down, they will lose the votes of a lot of the younger males that don't accept weakness or losing of any kind.

:p

I think we're going to get Kamala Harris.

Your hope to have a candidate without Presidential aspirations will either be achieved, or not be achieved all depending how you view her past Presidential ambitions, and her attempt to win that high office in 2024.

Is she done with presidential aspirations, or not after all of that?

I certainly don't know.

Lisa Murkowski got punked by the Senate Parliamentarian via byrd bath rules and struck out the deal she made for Alaska a few hours ago, she will need 60 votes to have it reinserted into the bill.
I haven't been able to find confirmation of that, but I really hope it's true.

LA, I would estimate that the changes spelled out in that bill will not have been enacted enough by the midterms election for that cause a significant shift.

Democrats will have to run on the basis of what will happen in the future regarding the hardship that Bill will, or might cause, instead of on the basis of what has actually happened, and has been felt for a long enough time by the electorate such that they will feel they have suffered.

I disagree with your estimation, because many of the negative impacts of many of the provisions that will affect healthcare for a majority of us Americans will be felt in a matter of months. Those adverse impacts will be what the majority of us Americans find the most unforgivable. People will start dying or significantly suffering in a matter of months if the bill is passed.

Parents with special needs children will be suffering along with their children in a matter of months.

Those that don't suffer right away will know they will suffer down the line. Nobody needs to tell them that, they already painfully know it. The Democrats don't have to tell those who suffer later that they will suffer later.

The greed of American corporations is a major factor behind widespread job losses in the U.S. Many of these companies chose to outsource labor and production not out of necessity, but for profit maximization—often at the expense of American workers and long-term national interests.

It's also important to remember that a significant portion of America's scientific advancement—especially in fields like rocketry, weapons systems, and material science—was driven by German scientists brought to the U.S. after World War II under Operation Paperclip. Some of these individuals had ties to the Nazi regime and, under different circumstances, would likely have faced prosecution at Nuremberg. Instead, they became instrumental in advancing U.S. capabilities, including laying the groundwork for the American space program.

Do I condone scientific theft? No, I do not. But it’s disingenuous to single out one nation. China is far from alone in this regard. Throughout history, nearly every major power has engaged in the appropriation of foreign knowledge—whether through espionage, colonization, or corporate maneuvering—and then used that knowledge as a foundation to innovate and develop new technologies.
You are correct. Corporate greed has hurt America, but it has also helped more on balance. The US has done many things that are no longer acceptable since WW2. I’m not condoning any of that. I’m just saying that China has been practicing these unacceptable practices for the last few decades, and today they are our greatest threat. Other countries may also employ these practices, but they are less of a threat.

I disagree that they have just observed. They’ve stolen tech for decades, not just observed our tech. It is not a red herring. The discussion led to China because of outlawing some of their tech. That does serve our tech bros, but it also serves a legitimate national security threat. Others only ascribe those laws to tech bros controlling our politicians, but those bros don’t control our professional intelligence services. The threat is real. The solution to outlaw their tech may not eliminate the threat, but it is one of the only options.

It was reverse engineering and every human does it in some aspect.
That is simplistic. It was more than reverse engineering, which is slow and difficult. That is only one of their approaches, but everyone does that. Everyone doesn’t flagrantly steal like China.
