I think this topic deserves its own thread, both to discuss generally the topic of government efficiency, and specifically the so-called 'Department of Government Efficiency' and the incoming Trump administration's aims to "dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures and restructure Federal Agencies".

The announcements have been covered in the The Trump Cabinet and key post thread, but to recap, Trump has announced that Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will work together on a not-actually-an-official-government-Department of Government Efficiency, which is intended to work with the White House and Office of Management & Budget to "drive large scale structural reform, and create an entrepreneurial approach to Government never seen before," with the 'Department' to conclude its work "no later than July 4, 2026."

Musk has previously said that the federal budget could be reduced by "at least $2 trillion", and Ramaswarmy, during his presidential campaign, said he would fire more than 75% of the federal work force and disband agencies including the Department of Education and the FBI.

This seems to be true. Sadly. We had testimony from a former SocSec administrator the other day to the fact that the cuts in staff and offices will cripple the agency. They already operate in a hella efficient manner. Their administrative overhead is 0.5%. Which is why Bush’s push to privatize Medicare died, because no private firm could match that - not even close.

And yet, they lie about finding fraud waste and abuse in huge amounts.

Huh, so evidently GOP legislators, but only GOP, were given Musk’s phone number today so they can call him and beg him to restore funding to their pet projects. Musk, who isn’t in charge of anything according to sworn court statements by the administration.

Nearly half of the country’s attorneys generalsued the Trump administration over the Department of Government Efficiency’s mass firings of federal workers.

The AGs accuse the administration of terminating tens of thousands of probationary employees without first following federal regulations, including a 60-day advance notice to affected employees and states. The federal government and many states require companies to notify employees ahead of mass layoffs.

“These large-scale, indiscriminate firings are not only subjecting the Plaintiff States and communities across the country to chaos. They are also against the law,” the suit filed Thursday says. “Where an agency fails to provide such notice, the employees ‘may not be released.’”

The administration “has run roughshod over” these requirements in the past month, “harming” both the individuals and the states they live in, the AGs argued.

“As a result, many affected employees and their families are struggling to make ends meet—to pay rent, buy groceries, and care for their loved ones,” the complaint states, adding that states are also impacted. The lack of notice has “impeded” states’ ability to support the terminated workers with resources; states are now facing “increased administrative demands related to adjudicating unemployment claims, decreased tax revenues, and increased demands for social services.”…….

    Read this if you can

Its like the last 15 min of each Apprentice episode.

And once you read that, its clear who currently has control in the US Government. Looks like Trump is attempting to reign back in some of that, but as the article states at the end, lets see how long this arrangement lasts.
