I think this topic deserves its own thread, both to discuss generally the topic of government efficiency, and specifically the so-called 'Department of Government Efficiency' and the incoming Trump administration's aims to "dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures and restructure Federal Agencies".

The announcements have been covered in the The Trump Cabinet and key post thread, but to recap, Trump has announced that Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will work together on a not-actually-an-official-government-Department of Government Efficiency, which is intended to work with the White House and Office of Management & Budget to "drive large scale structural reform, and create an entrepreneurial approach to Government never seen before," with the 'Department' to conclude its work "no later than July 4, 2026."

Musk has previously said that the federal budget could be reduced by "at least $2 trillion", and Ramaswarmy, during his presidential campaign, said he would fire more than 75% of the federal work force and disband agencies including the Department of Education and the FBI.

So, all of a sudden, the OPM didn’t fire anyone?

In revised guidance issued to the heads of federal agencies, the Office of Personnel Management ― the human resources agency of the federal government ― tries to rewrite history by claiming it never actually ordered agencies to fire probationary employees (people who generally have held their jobs for a year or less). Instead, OPM claims it’s been up to each agency all along to decide who to fire.

Clearly an attempt to intimidate judges who are consistently holding this admin to be in violation of laws and regulations.

what could possibly go wrong?? it has been so hard to get help now it will be impossible. and as usual it will cost far more then it savs cause that's how trump works.

Stop for just a minute and consider the lunacy of these disaster tariffs under the guise of bringing manufacturing back to the US, while at the same time carrying out mass deportation of the most likely people to fill those manufacturing jobs.

No one is going to invest and build a $50mm mfg plant in this economic environment.

This isn't Field of Dreams. The days of "build it and they will come" is gone.

Then you add the time element from land acquisition to actual operations, that can take year(s). And in current free market, that 2 yr old forecast could be completely upside down today.

It would take a generation just to reap the benefits if this even had a chance.

But the American consumer isn't looking to pay 20, 30 or 50% more for a product just because it's produced domestically. They are looking to build wealth, and you don't do that by over spending on a product you can get for half price elsewhere.

    It's ridiculous.

Bill Nye the "Science Guy" — formerly the host of a popular educational show for children — caught the ire of MAGA loyalists when he suggested that Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency, was planning to replace weather satellites operated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration with satellites operated by his Starlink service.

Musk's government gutting, backed by the Trump administration, has resulted in the termination of hundreds of workers at NOAA and the National Weather Service. The cuts resulted in protests outside NOAA's headquarters on Monday.

Nye explained why he thought Musk's cuts were a problem during an interview with CNN on Monday.

“Elon Musk and his guys were revving up — and you know, I’m an engineer, we love engineering,” Nye, a former mechanical engineer, said. “I used to work on failure effects and modes analysis for airplanes. So these guys found what they thought was the vulnerable part of the U.S. government, which is this digital services office.”

He said that Musk's team "got in there and changed all the passwords and messed everything up as fast as they could."

"And then along that line, people — the system was not set up for it. But understand what’s going on, by firing people at NOAA," Nye said. “By dismantling this public service, you’re not serving the public. This is in nobody’s best interest.”

He then shared his suspicions about Musk's plans for Starlink satellites.

“NOAA has a lot of satellites, and that’s how these weather predictions are made,” he said. “Well, Mr. Musk has this company, Starlink, and he’s proposing that NOAA be supplanted by a private company.”

Nye chalked up Musk's cuts to NOAA as "fundamental corruption" and accused him of trying to "monopolize a government service."

“So, he found this weak part, this weakness in the U.S. government, exploited it as fast as he could, and now, it’s one thing leading to another and he’s trying to undo a public service and supplant it with one of his. And this is just good old corruption," he said. "So, sooner or later, I believe the court system will catch up with these guys. And, so, it’s just going to be, it’s just — talk about efficiency. Destroying a system that was working and then trying to replace it later is inefficient."

Musk supporters jumped on the opportunity to defend the world's richest man from Nye's allegations.

“Incoherent and creepy Bill Nye on CNN spins a wild conspiracy theory that Elon Musk is planning on personally taking over NOAA with his guys at Starlink,” one X user wrote.............

Sounds like a reasonable suspicion to have to me.

Also, this idea that Musk’s software guys got in there and changed passwords and messed up the current computer systems aligns with a report I saw where supposedly one of Musk’s guys told a judge that he didn’t have the ability to turn one of the systems back on.

That they are unable to start the money flowing again, I think it was for USAID. Because they broke the system if I had to guess.

Well, now that the Supreme Court has weighed in, we shall see what they say.

Both TSMC and SK Hynix’s decisions were during Biden’s administration and were likely due to the $58 billion program that the Orange Orangutan claimed was “very, very bad”.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Department of Veterans Affairs is planning an “aggressive” reorganization that includes cutting 80,000 jobs from the sprawling agency that provides health care for retired military members, according to an internal memo obtained by The Associated Press.

The VA’s chief of staff, Christopher Syrek, told top level officials at the agency that it had an objective to cut enough employees to return to 2019 staffing levels of just under 400,000.

That would require terminating tens of thousands of employees after the VA expanded during the Biden administration, as well as to cover veterans impacted by burn pits under the 2022 PACT Act.

The memo instructs top-level staff to prepare for an agency-wide reorganization in August to “resize and tailor the workforce to the mission and revised structure.”

It also calls for agency officials to work with the White House’s Department of Government Efficiency to “move out aggressively, while taking a pragmatic and disciplined approach” to the Trump administration’s goals.

Veterans have already been speaking out against the cuts at the VA, which so far had included a few thousand employees and hundreds of contracts. More than 25% of the VA’s workforce are veterans themselves……

It's as if our GOP government doesn't want to govern, much less, serve the people. That's the story that Democrats should be beating Americans with on a daily basis! GOVERNMENT ISN'T BUSINESS. Its purpose isn't to make profit, its purpose is to serve.

    Eighty thousand

Meanwhile, i got @Sendai posting "announcements of possible investments" creating a max total of 4-6000 jobs ( LOL one is 50 jobs on $4mm expansion ) like its some sort of "win"

    its truly remarkable.

And posting it without the critical context that most if not all of these plans came about through Biden’s infrastructure act among others.
