Supreme Court has voted to overturn abortion rights per draft opinion (Update: Dobbs opinion official) (4 Viewers)

Not long ago Kari Lake proclaimed Arizona's abortion law was a great law and wanted it the law of the state.

Now that she has gotten her way, she is lobbying for it to be repealed.

As I have been saying since 2022, the overwhelming vast majority of women aren't going to vote for the man who proudly boasts that he got rid of Roe V. Wade. Nor are those women going to vote for a forced birther politician.

Turns out, republican belief in "pro life" was all just lies to get votes. Who is surprised? I sure am not.

How many forced birthers will do the same about face?

Arizona Republican Senate candidate Kari Lake is actively lobbying state lawmakers to overturn a 160-year-old law she once supported that bans abortion in almost all cases, a source with knowledge of her efforts told CNN.

Back to the topic of this thread. The drugs Rs are so keen on outlawing are used for a bunch of different reasons as part of needed women’s health care.

Farb will pretend this post never happened. He will ignore it and continue trying to rationalize his completely ridiculous position.

Investigators are reportedly closing in on identifying who leaked a draft ruling that ultimately became the Supreme Court’s June decision to overturn Roe v Wade and end the constitutional right to an abortion.

Supreme Court marshals reportedly have narrowed their search down to a small number of suspects, including law clerks, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing anonymous sources familiar with the investigation.

Supreme Court Marshal Gail Curley, a former Army colonel, is leading the investigation into the leak.

The search has involved interviews with those serving as the Supreme Court’s law clerks, a highly coveted position that usually goes to graduates of the country’s most prestigious law schools, the Journal reports…….

That article claims a man was arrested after breaking into Kavanaugh’s home this June. It links to a story which mentions a break-in to a different justice years ago in his vacation home in the Caribbean. It doesn’t give me a lot of faith in this article. 🤷‍♀️

At that point, the doctor is breaking the law and most like their oath. Do you really need it spelled out that crimes clearly should be investigated?
You said the state has no place between a doctor and patient. I am just pointing out your hyperbole to show that the state does indeed have a place between doctors and patients.

Ok, point taken. By that rationale, the state also has a place in your marriage, in how you raise your kids, and in literally every aspect of your life because there's a chance you might do something illegal.

You consider the state regulating drugs prescription, or outlawing dangerous medication that will be consumed by a patient the exact same thing as the state determining that you child cannot raise your child like children have been raised since the founding of this country? I actually believe you do and that makes total sense to you.

The state has already determined that. It's why we have child labor laws on the books.

Either the state has zero business in a matter or they have non-zero business in that matter. Are you saying that you should be able to raise your children any way you like with absolute freedom from government interference?

No, he absolutely wants the state to regulate how your children are raised. He wants to clearly expand the state control far beyond where it is set now. His standards, based on his religion, though.

Kansas voters shocked the nation last year when they overwhelmingly rejected a proposed state constitutional amendment that would have said there is no fundamental right to an abortion. But that hasn’t stopped Kansas Republicans from opening the 2023 legislative session by trying to further curtail abortion access anyway.

Just after the Republican-controlled state legislature convened last week, GOP leaders laid out an agenda that included additional restrictions on abortion and more funding for crisis pregnancy centers, which operate to dissuade people from getting abortions. They also identified the Kansas Supreme Court’s 2019 decision in Hodes & Nauser v. Schmidt, which established a right to an abortion in the state constitution, as a key target.

They didn’t offer any details on what the additional abortion restrictions might be; the Kansas GOP and leadership in both legislative chambers did not respond to requests for comment. But abortion advocates are anticipating everything from a ban on abortion after 14 weeks of pregnancy to more restrictions on abortion providers and abortion services offered via telemedicine..........

Food does not contain aborted fetuses, but the total lack of existence of such a product hasn’t stopped one Texas Republican from trying to regulate it.

Ahead of the opening of the Texas state legislature last week, Republican state Sen. Bob Hall introduced a bill to mandate that food containing “human fetal tissue” be “clearly and conspicuously labeled.”

If passed, this bill would also apply to food that is “manufactured using human fetal tissue,” or “derived from research using “derived from research using human fetal tissue.” Medical and cosmetic products that have links to fetal tissue would also be subject to these requirements.

Fetal tissue, according to the bill, is “tissue, cells, or organs obtained from an aborted unborn child.”

To be clear, food with fetal tissue in it? Not a thing. It doesn’t exist.

“There are no conditions under which the FDA would consider human fetal tissue to be safe or legal for human or animal consumption,” an FDA spokesperson told VICE News in a statement. Eating food with fetal tissue would also likely constitute cannibalism, which is typically frowned upon.

Cannibalism has found its way into the news quite a bit lately. Prominent conspiracy theory movements like QAnon hold (falsely) that elite Democrats are running a cannibalistic, Satan-worshiping, child sex-trafficking ring. QAnon’s beliefs are linked to antisemitic and anti-LGBTQ tropes that hold that Jewish and LGBTQ people are trying to hurt children, and even drink their blood.

These conspiracies, which have flourished partly through lockdown isolationism and election denialism, have radicalized a stunning number of Americans and torn families apart.

Although food would not be impacted if Hall’s bill became law, medicine and science could be, since fetal cell lines can be used to develop and test drugs. These lines can be collected from a single miscarriage or abortion, then replicated in labs, over and over again, for decades. (Cell lines derived from aborted fetal tissue can be preferable, both because it’s easier to collect and because fetal tissue derived from a miscarriage may carry whatever genetic or chromosomal problem may have caused the miscarriage in the first place.) Fetal cell lines have led to development of many major vaccines, such as the vaccines against chickenpox and Hepatitis A................

Today the SCOTUS released their “investigative report” on the leaked Dobbs opinion. Basically they say they cannot determine who leaked it.

I am 100% convinced it was either Alito himself, or Thomas. Especially since they say they cannot tell. Had it been one of the liberal justices or their staff, they would have damn sure been able to tell.

My opinion of this Robert’s court just couldn’t get any lower.

What a bullshirt report. They should know everyone that has access and be able to tie that back to personal identification credentials, access logs, and printer records. They should know exactly who pulled it up, when they did it, and what printer it was printed on. That's just basic security.

The investigation was done by a lady who is an employee of the court. The report doesn’t even specify that any Justices were interviewed. She had no legal authority to compel testimony. Her normal duties are to secure the building.

They didn’t even interview clerks who had left shortly after the leak and moved into other practices.

John Roberts didn’t want to find out - he may very well already know who did it. But nobody who really wanted to know would have done such a sham investigation.

To me, it’s obvious it had to be one of the conservative justices. Probably Alito, since we have testimony from someone who had witnessed him leak an opinion verbally in the past to one of the participants.
