Didn't really see a place for this so I thought I would start a thread about all things LGBTQ since this is a pretty hot topic in our culture right now

    https://www.cnbc.com/2021/06/17/sup...y-that-refuses-to-work-with-lgbt-couples.html

    • The Supreme Court on Thursday delivered a unanimous defeat to LGBT couples in a high-profile case over whether Philadelphia could refuse to contract with a Roman Catholic adoption agency that says its religious beliefs prevent it from working with same-sex foster parents.
    • Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in an opinion for a majority of the court that Philadelphia violated the First Amendment by refusing to contract with Catholic Social Services once it learned that the organization would not certify same-sex couples for adoption.

I will admit, I was hopeful for this decision by the SCOTUS but I was surprised by the unanimous decision.

While I don't think there is anything wrong, per se, with same sex couples adopting and raising children (I actually think it is a good thing as it not an abortion) but I also did not want to see the state force a religious institution to bend to a societal norm.

It has nothing to do with "the left".

A parent that takes their child to church and tells the child "you must believe in this or your soul will burn in hell for eternity"? A child who is not given any option other than to belong to a church and believe? Yes.

And I am not against all religion. Buddhists, Jains, even Sihks are cool with me. It's mostly the Abrahamic religions, with Christianity and Islam occupying a special place in my heart.
Why do you not have contempt for Buddhist? People are doing some pretty terrible things in the name of that religion recently. I think it might be more correct for you to say you have problem with right leaning religion sects as there are plenty of super left Christian groups/sects.

I know, check out the rat experiment by Calhoun if you want to see what crazy outside and social stress creates homosexual behavior.

How about you explain Calhoun's experiment and how it applies to homosexual behavior observed in other species?

How does the population of the dolphins and bonobos continue along then? The straight ones continue to reproduce to carry on the species?

Both male and female bottlenose dolphins engage in homosexual behavior and they're doing just fine as a species. What's your point?

Just because something occurs, does not necessarily that it is natural default. People are born with one leg but humans are defined by having 2 legs.
Being born with two kegs is the overwhelming norm

But being born with one leg is still a natural biological occurrence, not a deviant sin (and people used to think exactly that)

I take it you are referring to the extremists in Myanmar ?

What does a super left Christian group/sect look like?

More than 50% of transgender and non-binary youth in states across the US seriously considered suicide in the past year, according to new survey data on a worsening LGTBQ+ youth mental health crisis.

The Trevor Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to LGBTQ+ youth suicide prevention, on Thursday released state-level data from nearly 34,000 queer and trans youth ages 13 to 24, showing alarmingly high rates of suicide attempts, depression and anxiety across liberal and conservative regions.

States where lawmakers have aggressively pursued anti-trans legislation, including Texas and Arkansas, have extraordinarily high levels of suicide risk, though the rates are nearly as high in some progressive states, including New York, California and Oregon.

The data release comes amid rising government restrictions on the rights of queer and trans people in conservative states, as well as a drumbeat of vigilante violence targeting LGBTQ+ events and spaces across the US.

More than 150 bills to restrict the lives of trans people were filed in state legislatures in 2022, the highest number in the nation’s history, the Washington Post reported. Many of these bills targeted trans youth, including restricting their access to gender-affirming medical care, participation in sports, and ability to use bathrooms that match their gender identities…..

Yep. All that is good stuff. I have several gay friends/couple friends. We talk about it often and honestly. Matter of fact, I will have several gays in my house tonight as we drink and grill.

For someone who is ***definitely not gay***, you sure spend a lot of time with gay people at your house and at drag shows.

So you mean sexually conscience? Because otherwise, you assume that being straight is a choice. It is not. It is how nature intended. Any deviation from that is a choice.
By that same “logic,” naturally everyone starts out as an atheist and then chooses to become religious. We shouldn’t protect choices, right?

Great people indeed. Not every single gay person is great, there are many horrible people that are gay. Agree?
Did grow up in a church family so not sure I can relate to your experiences but close enough. Question though,

What civil rights are being denied gay people in this country?

You have those friends and talk openly about it and they all tell you they have made a deliberate choice of their sexuality - and the damnation that goes along with it? I’m skeptical.

What civil rights? Well the right to get married is actually quite recent and had Supreme Court justices questioning it this very year - so that’s no inconsequential. And there are those who refuse to serve them in the marketplace for no other reason than they’re being gay - and by law those are also civil rights.

    Following the playbook.

How long until they have pink triangles on their licenses?

Animals are horny and the urge to procreate is a strong urge. Humans, while we are animals, we are supposed to be have evolved past that yet the left now thinks the most important part of a person is their sexual appetite and needs to be if not celebrated, encouraged.

That dolphins are whores, rapey and nasty of course.

We're talking about church, not school. Do you think a child that goes to church is volunteering for that religion?
Are we not talking about educating children without their consent? You definitely are.
You are asking who get to make decisions about how to raise children. I say parents, you clearly think the government.
Why do you think the government is better equipped to decide how a child will be raised? Would you still think that way if the government brought school prayer back and encouraged lessons based on the judea-christian belief system of western civ? Something tells you would feel different so that should tell you that you want to 'volunteer' children for only what you believe to be right. And that would be a fine position if you were the parent, but a bureaucracy or a union is not a parent.
What makes you want to dismantle the idea the nuclear family, what threat does it pose to your political leanings?

    Following the playbook.

Could it not be for public saftey? I didn't read the article, but I assume it would help in identifying someone who the state might be looking for whether it be for a crime or help. Are ages on DL also a relic of the past?

You can be skeptical but yes, it is truth. One couple I know, have said they know it is a sin (they are catholic for what that is worth) and go to confession regularly to atone for it. Granted, I think that is a bit much but I admire their faith none the less, no matter that I tend to disagree with them on that. Another lady I know believes herself to be gay but choses not to be sexually active (granted, she is older so not sure how much of a stretch that is). Believe it or not, sexuality is not he main thing everyone bases their level of self worth on.
So as of right now, no civil rights are in question. Anyone can get married and anyone can buy a cake.
Now the marketplace idea, which, I think you know, I think to be a silly argument is also not in play as they can buy a cake from the religious baker, just not compel the baker to bake them a specific cake.

I still think protected classes are against the constitution and will only create a deeper divide in this country, but I also believe that is by design.

By that same “logic,” naturally everyone starts out as an atheist and then chooses to become religious. We shouldn’t protect choices, right?
Can you provide proof everyone starts off as an atheist? Are you an atheist?

    https://www.themainewire.com/2022/1...ion-for-13-year-old-girl-in-maine-school-mom/

A Damariscotta mom demanded the resignation of several public school officials at a school board meeting Wednesday following her discovery that a school social worker had begun secretly transitioning her 13-year-old daughter’s gender.

In an emotionally charged address to the school board, Amber Lavigne said a Central Lincoln County School System (CLCSS) social worker at Great Salt Bay Community School in Damariscotta provided a chest binder to her daughter — a gender transitioning device the employee encouraged the young girl to keep secret from her parents.

I know everywhere is complaining about the use of the word 'groomer' in regards to schools and transing kids. What would you all call it when a person gives a 13 year old a binder for their breasts and instructs the kids to keep it a secret?
