Didn't really see a place for this so I thought I would start a thread about all things LGBTQ since this is a pretty hot topic in our culture right now

    https://www.cnbc.com/2021/06/17/sup...y-that-refuses-to-work-with-lgbt-couples.html

    • The Supreme Court on Thursday delivered a unanimous defeat to LGBT couples in a high-profile case over whether Philadelphia could refuse to contract with a Roman Catholic adoption agency that says its religious beliefs prevent it from working with same-sex foster parents.
    • Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in an opinion for a majority of the court that Philadelphia violated the First Amendment by refusing to contract with Catholic Social Services once it learned that the organization would not certify same-sex couples for adoption.

I will admit, I was hopeful for this decision by the SCOTUS but I was surprised by the unanimous decision.

While I don't think there is anything wrong, per se, with same sex couples adopting and raising children (I actually think it is a good thing as it not an abortion) but I also did not want to see the state force a religious institution to bend to a societal norm.

Nobody is exposing themselves - if they are, then there are laws to deal with that. Good lord!

    More trans women:

So you are ok with the statement that women should just get over it. Yes or no?
What is your freaking point? I have made my position exceedingly clear. If someone exposes themselves there are laws to handle that.

Why do you think that forcing trans women into a men’s restroom is a good idea? Or what is your freaking position? You are not a prosecutor and I am not on trial, lol, get over yourself.

That doesn't answer the question. Yes or no, should women just "get over it" if they see a penis they don't want to see? It is a very simple question.

If I have a position is simply that we, well, y'all seem to be forgetting individuals born with ovaries over your zealousness to defend anything transgender, or rather, related to transgender women, as these discussions rarely mention transgender men, who are mostly born with ovaries (go figure).

No one is on trial here. We are just discussing things. I just want to know if you are ok with the idea that, when put in uncomfortable positions, women should just "get over it". You seem to be ok with it, but don't want to come out and say it.

It is a very simple question, but perhaps not in the sense you're intending.

It'd be the same as asking you, should some people be able to exclude others entirely from shared spaces based on their personal discomfort, yes or no? As if the same answer would apply to all situations, regardless of any context whatsoever.

Which is basically what you're doing. People have offered nuanced answers, and you're acting like it's a universal yes or no question. It isn't.

I have said, multiple times in fact, that if people are exposing themselves, fitting the legal description, they have laws for that. I do not care whether you accept that answer or not. It’s pretty freaking ironic that you accuse me, a woman with ovaries and everything, of forgetting about women. I don’t forget about women, ever. Society simply wouldn’t let me forget anyway, I am reminded far too often about my “place” in society in many subtle ways. Having you badger me over the course of two days about this is just freaking wonderful. 🤷‍♀️

If you think allowing trans women to use the women's restroom poses some kind of threat to women, then all I can think is there is something else going on here. Women do not need protection from trans women. Trans women are not flashing their junk, if they even have some. It’s generally cis men who are flashing their junk at women, but instead of worrying about that, you and Farb are targeting trans women. It just makes no sense to me.

It seems to me the one example given in this thread is of a cis male dressing like a woman in order to flash women. But I forget now, because you have taken to harassing me about a statement I didn’t even make. Why are you doing that? Because I didn’t choose to respond to a statement like you want me to? I got news for you, buddy, there are a freaking crap ton of statements made that I don’t agree with. If it’s not addressed to me, I sometimes choose to ignore it. Get over yourself.

That is a lot of typing for a yes or no question that you still did not answer. Why is it so hard to answer the question I asked?

No, it is not. That is not what I am asking at all. The question was asked around a post that said women should just get over it if they see a penis in a ladies locker room.
As if the same answer would apply to all situations, regardless of any context whatsoever.
It was a specific situation, not a hypothetical.
Which is basically what you're doing.
    No, it is not.

No. People have not offered nuanced answers. They have avoided answering the question.

Doesn't matter... but I'll test the "get over it" statement in other situations, see how it works for me.

"Myth #3: Letting trans people use the bathroom or locker room matching their gender identity is dangerous

    German Lopez Nov 14, 2018, 4:09pm EST

Transgender people generally prefer using the bathroom or locker room that matches their gender identity, not the one that corresponds with the gender they were assigned at birth. But conservative critics argue that this could expose others to sexual voyeurism and assault in bathrooms or locker rooms — even though there’s no evidence to support this claim.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee perpetuated this myth at a 2015 convention, stating, “Now I wish that someone told me that when I was in high school that I could have felt like a woman when it came time to take showers in PE. I’m pretty sure that I would have found my feminine side and said, ‘Coach, I think I’d rather shower with the girls today.’”

But as Media Matters pointed out, experts from 12 states that protect trans rights have thoroughly refuted this talking point. In the US, there’s not a single reported instance of this kind of voyeurism occurring in states with legal protections for trans people."

I have answered, more than once. You just don’t like the way I answered it. You want me to answer in one word, but I don’t want to answer that way. I don’t have to conform to your demands about how you want me to converse.

I have told you at least twice now that I have answered the question. Why are you hounding me over a post I didn’t make? It’s exceedingly weird. I thought you were better than this, to be honest.

I am not hounding you... I just asked your opinion in something, because I was interested in your opinion as an actual woman on a particular situation... the question was not explicitly answered by anything you posted, but was implied in one of your responses.

Really, I am not doing anything different from what you do with other posters. But if it bothers you that much, as I did with one poster regarding religion, I'll never ask your opinion on any subject again or reply to anything you post.

I do not think you will find me asking the same question this many times, over and over, when the person has actually answered the question. Or demanding that they give a one word answer.

Look, you‘re a good poster here and you bring a valued POV on many subjects. I agree with your views on many subjects. But you are not “owed” the type of answer you want. When the subject is complex and nuanced, one word answers are inadequate to the situation. When someone clearly doesn’t want to give you the type of answer you want, you need to move on.

I generally have enjoyed my interactions with you, I don’t want you to ignore me. Just learn when to quit.

I want to say I am surprised, but I am not really surprised.
You may want to try the "get over it" line with other subjects and see how it goes.

"I was born with a penis but I am a woman!". Get over it.
"My great great grandfather was a slave!". Get over it.
"Q-Anoners attacked the U.S. Capitol!". Get over it.
Please don't be offended but I plan to use this exclusively from here on out on this board. LOL
