This election nonsense by Trump may end up splitting up the Republican Party. I just don’t see how the one third (?) who are principled conservatives can stay in the same party with Trump sycophants who are willing to sign onto the TX Supreme Court case.

We also saw the alt right types chanting “destroy the GOP” in Washington today because they didn’t keep Trump in power. I think the Q types will also hold the same ill will toward the traditional Republican Party. In fact its quite possible that all the voters who are really in a Trump personality cult will also blame the GOP for his loss. It’s only a matter of time IMO before Trump himself gets around to blaming the GOP.

They are partly to blame, though, they said and did not much of anything all through his presidency. They looked the other way at the grift and corruption, at the bullying and police state rhetoric.

I'd use a different 'd' word - dangerous. In continuing to push false narratives about the election long after it's moved beyond dispute, they've gone from not just pushing false narratives in isolation where it suits them, but to continuing to push them long beyond that point. And to step it up in actively purging those who don't fall in line from their positions of authority and leadership, they're placing adherence to the false narrative beyond other principles.

And that really is the kind of mentality and cult-like behaviour that heads towards coups and authoritarianism.

I'm just curious what type affect her ouster will have on the Republican party, if any at all. The problem with the Republican party isn't just their politicians, it's Republican voters. The majority of Republican voters want their party aligned with Trump, clearly. The majority of the US citizens want nothing to do with Trump. Republican politicians can't cast off Trump because they're cowards and won't win their primaries if they do. And they can't do anything nationally if half of their voters turn against them and lose interest because they tell the truth about the election. So it all comes down to those independents that normally side/vote Republican.

If those Independent voters decide to ignore the rotten core of election fraud within the Republican party and vote for Republican Representatives in 2022 and give control back to Kevin McCarthy and this brand of Republicans, I think our countries demise will be sealed. I don't think we survive another round with this brand of Republicanism in power. If they lose and Democrats retain control of both houses, then I think the Republicans party demise will be sealed and something else will rise in it's place.

Right now, while I'm hoping for the latter, I feel like McCarthy and Republicans regaining control of the house has about a 60%-65% chance of happening just because of peoples short memeory, histroy and the right media empires that will conspiracy theory their audience into a fear filled frenzy.

What I mean is he sells it better than just about anyone. And he does so easily. Where others stumble, he just keeps going like nothing happened. But, most others have either been fully behind Trump or fully against him. Collins, Flake, Comstock, Cheney, Romney have all been consistently against Trump ever since he got the nomination in 2016. Basically the same group opposing him now. Graham has been consistent in his duplicity regarding Trump. A few others have as well. Most Republican Congressional reps have supported Trump since 2016 to date. That's been pretty consistent. I mean, really, how many others have really flip flopped on Trump?

That Barbie-doll press secretary used to bad-mouth Trump until she flipped as well.

I think a lot of Republicans actually despise Trump, but are just too cowardly to speak up. At least most of the time. Even McConnell has gone silent, since his speech just after Jan. 6. Theres a nearly complete lack of leadership in R circles right now.

McConnell doesn't count, lol. All he cares about is holding onto his leadership position. He doesn't care about Trump. Probably despises him. But he cares more about his position and knows opposing Trump means losing his position like Cheney did. Anyone in the Republican leadership daring to oppose Trump will get booted. The only way to stop it is for the Party to band together and oppose him. That's just not going to happen. I agree it's cowardly, but self-preservation will overcome cowardice every time in politics.

Kayleigh was a talking head with CNN before she moved to Fox and was later hired by Trump as press secretary. The last time I heard her say anything bad about Trump was way back when she was still working for CNN. Regardless, she was hired by Trump and worked for him. She's still working for him it seems, lol.

That purported replacement for Cheney is doing this because she values that position more than her integrity. She's basically doing what McConnell and others have done to gain and maintain power. I don't like it, but that's Washington politics for ya.

Political self-preservation is a strong motivator.

All that makes Cheney's refusal to bend on the Capitol attack and Trump more impressive. Not enough people stick to their guns when faced with the stark choice she was given.
