It’s so repulsive to see people cheering for what is basically 80% the same thing as the Holocaust - different end result but otherwise very similar.

Economists have said it would tank the economy and cause inflation - notwithstanding the cost.

Is it going to actually happen or is this Build The Wall 2.0?

I don’t say carrying your papers is required in this country. It is just a smart idea. But you aren’t interested in smart. As I have said repeatedly you, I expect LEO to follow the law. As I have repeatedly pointed out to you, some forms of ID may not prove your citizenship, but it does facilitate the investigative process should you encounter LEO. Now you can disagree. That is your right.

But maybe you would be more comfortable in a place full of ignorant arseholes?
I think you are giving far too much credit for what level of investigation can or will occur.

I see a NC real ID, which is not a proof of citizenship.
RealID is a federal program; to get one, you need to present a passport or a birth certificate. It won't function as a passport or a birth/naturalization certificate, but it can serve as proof of citizenship, or at the very least, legal residency status. And it surely is better than nothing.

Granted, you can get a RealID with a Resident Alien card, but, Resident Aliens are required to carry their cards at all times, so they already should have proper ID on them that shows legal residency status.

Of course, any ID you present can be questioned, like it happens routinely in airports and border crossings, not only in the U.S., but around the world.

Not in my opinion.

Feel better now?

The majority doesn't benefit from being required to carry papers. History has proven that time and time again.

I and others have already stated some of the reasons. If you really want to know and really don't know, then just reread this thread starting from a day ago.
Figures... :hihi:

First. My original question was about citizenship, not legal residency status.

Two reasons.

1. Legal residency status can be revoked.

2. I was specifically talking to Joe who is a citizen.

Also, FYI, you can get a real ID with only Temporary legal status. So, that can expire, but the Real ID could be 'valid.' It's not proof in any case.

A US citizen would have to get and carry a passport / passport card, their birth certificate, or their naturalization papers. Most US citizens wouldn't have that on their person. Real ID doesn't count.

A non citizen is at the mercy of the USG,.especially now.

So, a guy I read says he has sources within DHS who tell him that the masked agents are not actual ICE but are hastily deputized correction officers. This is why they cannot afford to be identified-because they have zero training or experience with what they are doing and they are not qualified to do it. They may not even be federal employees - my speculation - because I think a lot of that work is now staffed by third party vendors.

Florida has begun building a new detention center for undocumented migrants on a former airfield deep in the Everglades that has been nicknamed “Alligator Alcatraz.”

The facility is scheduled to open in July, consisting mainly of tents, and is estimated to cost $450 million per year to operate, according to The New York Times. However, the state will receive some funding support from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), according to Department of Homeland Securityspokesperson Trisha McLaughlin.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, an ally of President Donald Trump, has boasted in a social media video that the center will require minimal additional security due to its remote, swampland location, which is home to dangerous wildlife, including alligators and pythons.

“Nowhere to go, nowhere to hide,” he declared.……..

So am I. What does that have to do with anything?

  • Proof of identity - To prove your identity, you can bring a U.S. birth certificate, U.S. passport, or Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) if you are a non-U.S. citizen.
Where do you see temporary status?

Suffering through 100+ degree weather and hurricanes in "tents". What could possibly go wrong? This is the Republican's first Concentration Death Camp on US Soil. Future Americans will look upon this era with so much shame and disgust.

Houston police called federal immigration agents on a woman who dialed 911 to report domestic abuse by her ex-husband in April, newly released records show.

The woman, an immigrant from El Salvador who has lived in Houston for seven years, had a removal order stemming from the denial of her asylum claim. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents declined to pick her up because they said there was no one to take custody of her children, according to a copy of the police report obtained by the Houston Chronicle through a public records request.

The woman hasn't yet been taken into federal custody, but victims' advocates said the incident is a worst-case scenario for those worried about the worsening state of domestic violence in the region and the likelihood that women will avoid reporting problems to law enforcement.

"Anecdotally, we know there's a huge fear in the immigrant community about reporting any type of incident to law enforcement because of the fear of being deported," said Amy Smith, deputy director at the Harris County Domestic Violence Coordinating Council.

An HPD spokesperson defended the officer's actions, saying he was simply following protocol.

"An officer responding to an assault call conducted a routine criminal history check on the reportee and discovered she had an active ICE warrant," the department spokesperson said. "As with any law enforcement warrant, the officer is required to notify the appropriate agency. The officer continued to assist the reportee professionally, providing her with victim support resources and maintaining a high level of service."............

She called 911 to report domestic abuse. Then Houston police called ICE on her

I see a link saying "Visit the REAL ID website for more details and frequently asked questions." Which goes here - https://www.tsa.gov/real-id/real-id-faqs .

And there I see plenty of relevant information supporting @wardorican's statement.

This is exactly why cities and states do not cooperate with ICE. Because women and other victims of violent crime who are undocumented will never go to the police if they know they will end up in an ICE detention facility. Which gives the truly bad people freedom to abuse and exploit them with zero consequences. Thus the :sanctuary city: which the right likes to lie about and say it’s a bad thing.

They’ve recently been revoking green cards on a whim, so there’s that.

Interning migrants in tents in the Florida Everglades isn’t just cruel—it’s a public health catastrophe waiting to happen. Planning a detention site—nicknamed "Alligator Alcatraz"—where tents would be surrounded by pythons, swamps, and over 200,000 alligators and claim "Mother Nature" will do the job of fences is bad enough. Not to mention the mosquitoes! This is a disaster waiting to happen. July in the Everglades is when the mosquito population explodes

This plan would expose already vulnerable people to mosquito-borne illnesses like Dengue, West Nile, and Zika, all common in Florida's summer swamp conditions. Add poor sanitation, overcrowding, and brutal heat, and you're looking at outbreaks of cholera, hepatitis, tuberculosis, and heatstroke—especially among children and the elderly.

This isn’t border policy. It’s a grotesque blend of biohazard and dehumanization—where nature is weaponized and human rights are tossed aside. We’ve seen the consequences of this kind of thinking before, and they stain history.

This is not about the border - it is about cruelty. It echoes some of the darkest chapters of 20th-century internment practices—and would likely violate international human rights standards and laws.

Andor star Diego Luna has earned a huge standing ovation after delivering an impassioned speech against US president Donald Trump’s immigration policies.

The Mexican actor, who has been widely praised for his role as Cassian Andor in the Star Wars spin-off series, is standing in as guest host on Jimmy Kimmel Live this week.

In his opening monologue, Luna defended undocumented workers and lambasted Trump’s “hate speech”.

“I have never been able to fully understand how it is that someone like Donald Trump is able to acquire this level of power,” said the 45-year-old. “I always struggle to understand how his hate speech can take root in a country whose nature has always been a welcoming one.”

Luna then turned his attention to reports that employees at farms, hotels, restaurants and cattle ranches have been scared off from turning up to work due to fears that businesses could be targeted by ICE.

“Today many people are feeling persecuted. Far too many people live in fear. Fear of taking their kids to school or going to places where they can earn an honest living. These people, they’re your neighbours, your friends.

“This is very unfair and let me tell you why,” Luna said. “The multiple times that this country has had to rebuild itself, immigrants were always there to pick up the slack.

“They are the ones who build this country. They feed it. They nurture and teach it’s children. They care for the elderly,” he said. “They work in construction, hospitality. They run kitchens. They’re technicians, merchants, athletes, drivers, farmers.”

Luna concluded by offering a remedy to the issue.

“The only solution is clear now, and it’s been clear for decades: Give them a path to legal certainty,” he said. “This is what your neighbours really deserve to be fully welcome in this country, where they already belong.”

He then encouraged everyone watching to call the representatives in Congress, adding: “If you want to support those affected or who may need assistance, there are some great organisations that are doing exactly that like Public Counsel and Kids in Need of Defense. I urge you to learn more about these organisations. Thank you for listening.”..............
