Looks like it's alive and kicking to me... Sheezzzzzz.. Really...

The farmer-owned dairy cooperative, which produces butter, cheese and other milk products, has dropped the Native American maiden image from its packaging, opting instead for just a landscape.
The logo, which has been the company’s label for nearly 100 years since it was founded in Minnesota in 1921, has been called “racist” and criticized for its use of the “butter maiden.”

WE had a conversation and one of our members came along and said that Politically correct was dead... @Dadsdream, you responded to him/her, do you remember.

This just goes to show that it is not dead and we as a society have just gotten to the point that a lot of this stuff is ridiculous.

From this article. Some critics have previously put pressure on the company to remove the woman from its design calling the native American character racist culturally insensitive. North Dakota state Rep Ruth Buffalo, a member of the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation, said it goes “hand-in-hand with human and sex trafficking of our women and girls, by depicting Native women as sex objects,” according to The Grand Forks Herald.

That image is no more racist and associated with sex trafficing than GMR is a politician.. We as a society have gotten to be such wussies... Would that image have been ok if it was a Male Indian Warrior? What if the image came from an actual person and she gave permission for Land o lakes to use the image...

I am not outraged... Just more amazed at the how technology by making the world smaller and facebook and cell phones allowing everyone to voice their opinions so strongly, that it is creating a cultural society of people that have nothing better to do than be upset.

Yes... Land o lakes has a right to change with the times, to alter thier product labeling after 92 years... But if they had to do so because a few folks are getting twisted by something going on in thier own head is different... As much as some people want it to be so. Everything is NOT racist or culturaly insensative.

What next? Is Chef Boyardee going to be racist and culturally insensitive to overweight, italian Americans everywhere?

The only thing you are doing is putting your cultural, historical and moral blind spots on display. You said something just now that really struck home with me.

But if they had to do so because a few folks are getting twisted by something going on in thier own head is different

You see, part of how minority groups remained marginalized is because they are, in fact, a minority. I believe it is estimated that Native Americans are numbered around 5 million, in a country of over 320 million. So, think about it logically for a second. Even if the majority of, only them, voiced their displeasure, you are still only talking about less than 2% of the country or "a few folks."

So, you've set this bar that if only "a few folks" are bothered by it, well then, it must be something in their own mind and its their problem, not the majority. Logically, does that seem reasonable? Morally, is it right? Since when did this country move and shake on what the majority wanted or felt? If that's the case, would someone like me be able to vote? Would I still be chattel? At one point in time, that only bothered "a few folks."

We nearly eradicated the indigenous people from this land, estimated by some as nearly 90%, and, yet our culture is inundated with caricatures of them, their imagery and their culture and, if we are being honest, most of it is done in mocking fashion. The part that is done to honor, some of that isn't with their blessing.

We use all of these symbols of them to appropriate their culture and history and we use it to market and profit off it with our sports teams, to sell motorcycles and, yes, to sell butter. And its wrong. I'm guilty of it myself but I have conscientiously tried to be different.

Whats hypocritical with you Joe is that you are symbol guy, right? You love the flag and what it represents to you. To the point where you and I have had many back and forth exchanges over players kneeling during the anthem and your perceived disrespect of that symbol. And, yet, others are wussies and soft because of their perceived disrespect towards symbols or imagery that they feel misrepresent, mock or appropriate their heritage, honor and history.

I, once again, ask: Why is your heritage, your culture, your perspective and your feelings more important than another American? Why are they soft and you aren't? Why should they tolerate disrespect but you demand honor? I just can't reconcile the two seemingly opposing viewpoints. But, then, you say well its a "few folks" and it becomes clearer. Yall hate that word "privilege" but its showing.

I guess it's not as important that boys have the image of that hot little maiden anymore, given that pornhub premium is just a click away and free during the shutdown.

If you aren't Native American, is it really for you to say?

Stop thinking of it as being politically correct and start thinking about it as not being a richard to other races/religions/etc.

I don't know how or why my opinion of the image is going to or even should affect your response to my question.

According to family lore and my amazing cheekbones, I am Native American. The butter girl should be allowed to reside on the box.

I, once again, ask: Why is your heritage, your culture, your perspective and your feelings more important than another American?
First off... My heritage, culture and perspective is not more important than anyone elses. They should all be equal.. So with that said...

Like I used Chef boyardee... If this little maiden image in racist and offensive.. Then so must be the old fat white chef.... So it is getting to the point then that all photos, likeness' reproductions of all people and things must be as offensive to someone, somewhere somehow... Everything can't just be label as Racist and offensive.

and as to how specific groups . As in this case a minority might feel...

While the North Dakota state Rep. Ruth Buffalo (D) told the Pioneer Press that the classic Land O’Lakes imagery goes “hand-in-hand with human and sex trafficking ... That has nothing to do with Racism...

What it's seeming to me is not that the Image is Racist... But more sexual... As much as it has to do with a female being used as an object to help sell butter... So that is totally different from being Racist.

So if thats the case.. remove ALL women from all Promotional Advertising.

But I will post what my Apache and Oteo-Missouri NDN friends have to say.

AS for me... I have always bought Land O Lakes Butter... And I have always liked the packaging.

The only thing you are doing is putting your cultural, historical and moral blind spots on display.
And you're showing a lack of facts.

Native American artist Patrick DesJarlait, of the Ojibwe tribe, redesigned the packaging in the 1950s to foster “a sense of Indian pride,” the Minnesota Reformer reported.

His son, Robert DesJarlait, told the outlet that the image — which has been slammed by many as “racist” — has become a “paradox” for Native Americans.

“He was breaking a lot of barriers . . . Back in the ’50s, nobody even thought about stereotypical imagery. Today it’s a stereotype, but it’s also a source of cultural pride,” DesJarlait told the outlet.

The rest of your post comes off as a 30-something-year-old lecturing somebody 20 years his senior in a highly disrespectful manner.

Allow me to suggest that you go lecture somebody your own age.

What does age have to do with anything, dad?

Interesting that Fox News put 'racist' in the headline and state that is has been called 'racist' but provided no context to that or actual proven it. Now, it's likely true (may not be), but still seems like a forced headline to generate clicks based on negative reactions.

Why not headline the fact they put "Farmer Owned" more prominently in the logo now.

But with all that's going on, this is what you want to get upset about? Have fun with that. As I recall someone saying before... Being Offended is a Volunteer activity.

never thought I'd say this, but the NY Post did a much better job covering this than Fox.

Popular dairy brand Land O’Lakes quietly changed its packaging to remove its iconic Indian maiden image, it was revealed Wednesday.

The new packaging has already started to appear in stores and looks similar to the previous branding with an image of lake and trees — except without Mia, the kneeling woman featured in the center, the Minnesota Reformer reported.

“We’ve recognized we need packaging that reflects the foundation and heart of our company culture — and nothing does that better than our farmer-owners whose milk is used to produce Land O’Lakes’ dairy products,” said Beth Ford, President and CEO of Land O’Lakes, in a February press release.
Would this article trigger the anti-PC folks? Probably not as much as the Fox one. Both are interpretations of the same event. I prefer to look at it the way the NY Post did.

I know! You can't even call a racist a "Racist" or a Nazi a "Nazi" anymore without them getting all PC and upset and up in their feelings about it.
Whenever this kind of stuff comes up I always think back to those poor wives/gf's in those white supremacist groups that complain about how they treat them...or something...IDK, I'm tired...

Everything.

Hey guys, did anyone check to see if there was still a "War on Christmas"?
I believe one side gave up, but I am not sure which side. No war at my house. We still have our Christmas tree up and it's only April 17. I am going for year round, but my wife is fighting me on that. Call it our "Skirmish on Christmas." :hihi:

That translation isn't exactly helpful.
