This election nonsense by Trump may end up splitting up the Republican Party. I just don’t see how the one third (?) who are principled conservatives can stay in the same party with Trump sycophants who are willing to sign onto the TX Supreme Court case.

We also saw the alt right types chanting “destroy the GOP” in Washington today because they didn’t keep Trump in power. I think the Q types will also hold the same ill will toward the traditional Republican Party. In fact its quite possible that all the voters who are really in a Trump personality cult will also blame the GOP for his loss. It’s only a matter of time IMO before Trump himself gets around to blaming the GOP.

There is some discussion of this on Twitter. What do you all think?

As far as I know at this time, Republicans and Trump are almost solely focused on not losing control of the House. They seem to be ignoring the Senate races, even though there are just as many warning signs they could lose control of the Senate. The warning signs were there before several Republican incumbents announced they aren't running again. That puts Republican control of the Senate at even greater risk.

So why is nearly all of the Republican effort focused on the House? My guess is because it's all about Trump and for Trump this election is about avoiding being impeached, more than it is about taking control of the country. If Republicans keep control of the House, then Trump can't be impeached, even if he loses the Senate.

Trump focused on the House, no McConnell coordination for Republicans and the shift in voting in Iowa, all indicate that the voting backlash against Republicans and Trump is taking shape, and the real hurting is just getting started. More good news is that gerrymandering doesn't affect Senate races.

Fingers crossed that the Republicans at least lose control of the Senate. Republicans and Trump being kept in check is much higher on my priority list than Trump getting impeached.

Agreed. Impeachment is a losing strategy since the bar is so high in the Senate that it will never be followed by conviction. I wouldn’t hate it if he were impeached, though, he certainly richly deserves it.

This is the guy who will most likely run against Susan Collins in Maine. She deserves (richly deserves) to lose her seat. I sure hope he wins.

The GOP with MAGA has turned to straight up white nationalist racism. No matter what people who have their heads somewhere dark will say. This is straight up racism.

The hypocrisy is stunning - and it is by design. People don’t do this just because they are butt crevasses, they are telling everyone that they have power and privilege. They are allowed to do and say things that ordinary people aren’t allowed to do or say. And if you are an ordinary person, like all of us on here are, and you don’t recognize the threat implicit in this blatant hypocrisy, that’s on you. You need to wake up.

Violence is what he is actually focused on.

I think all this whining from Republicans and Trump, about not respecting Kirk and people calling them fascists, shows they are worried and scared that their deceitful house of cards is about to crash down on them. They aren't whining about this in the structure of a propaganda campaign, they are just desperately trying to defend themselves now that Kirk's hateful and violent rhetoric is spreading through the general public.

It’s deliberate. They’re trying to show people that they can use any type of vile language they want, but they can punish others for simply accurately describing what they are doing.

We shouldn’t let them get away with that.

I think a lot of them are still in steps 1 and 2: avoiding punishment and self-interest. Peer pressure punishes those who don't conform and "I don't care what else happens as long as I get what I want" is the summation of the MAGA mentality.
