This election nonsense by Trump may end up splitting up the Republican Party. I just don’t see how the one third (?) who are principled conservatives can stay in the same party with Trump sycophants who are willing to sign onto the TX Supreme Court case.

We also saw the alt right types chanting “destroy the GOP” in Washington today because they didn’t keep Trump in power. I think the Q types will also hold the same ill will toward the traditional Republican Party. In fact its quite possible that all the voters who are really in a Trump personality cult will also blame the GOP for his loss. It’s only a matter of time IMO before Trump himself gets around to blaming the GOP.

There is some discussion of this on Twitter. What do you all think?

I, too, had wondered why GOP state legislatures have been so eager to weaken child labor laws. I should have realized. 😡

A 16-year-old from Guatemala died on Friday after sustaining a workplace injury at a poultry plant in Mississippi, authorities confirm.

The child, identified as Duvan Tomas Perez, died at Mar-Jac Poultry plant in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, about two hours outside of Jackson, NBC News reported. He migrated to the US six years ago from the town of Huispache and was a middle school student.

The accident occurred on Friday at about 8pm central time, the Forrest county coroner, Butch Benedict, told the Guardian.

The teenager’s death was caused by workplace equipment, Benedict confirmed. Benedict added that an autopsy had been completed and details would probably be released next week.

An employee who was working at the time of the incident told NBC that he heard the boy cry for help.

“Two times he began to scream, ‘Help! Help!’” the worker said to NBC. “I knew he had died.”

Minors in Mississippi are not allowed to be employed in poultry plants. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Osha) and the labor department have launched investigations into the boy’s death, NBC reported.……

Be vigilant, everyone. According to conservative lawmakers, Hollywood is attempting to manipulate the American public into consuming Chinese propaganda via subliminal messages about international maritime disputes. The culprit? A movie about dolls.

An image from Greta Gerwig’s Barbie (disclosure: I already have a ticket) has sent rightwing punditsand politicians into an uproar. Senators like Marsha Blackburn and Ted Cruz claim a cartoon map depicts the “nine-dash line” which China uses to assert control over the South China Sea. They argue that the movie’s supposed inclusion of the line legitimizes China’s position, which gives it more power over strategically important waters.

(For reference, the map in question is a highly stylized and deliberately inaccurate sketch. It also depicts England as bordering Asia. With a crown on top.)

The film’s studio, Warner Bros, responded with a much less convoluted explanation: “The doodles depict Barbie’s make-believe journey from Barbie Land to the ‘real world’.” Republicans should know a make-believe journey when they see one – because that’s exactly the leap they make, time and time again, to invent controversies like this.

The Barbie scandal is as manufactured as the dolls themselves. It’s the latest and most absurd example of a trend as old as time: conservatives drumming up unnecessary culture wars because they are incapable of winning over voters with their deeply unpopular policies……

Back in Barbie Land, Republicans’ insistence on fabricating culture war issues isn’t limited to disputes over territorial seas. Ginger Luckey Gaetz, the 26-year-old wife of Representative Matt Gaetz, knocked the movie because it “neglects to address any notion of faith or family”. She also lamented the “disappointingly low T from Ken,” Barbie’s famously genital-free companion.……

    Low T from Ken?
Has she seen a Ken Doll or seen any commercials? Ken was far from a manly man. IMO, he always gave of that "i'm in the closet" vibe only dating Barbie so people would think he was straight..

I hope Schumer does cancel August recess. This is ridiculous.

Yeah, Schumer needs to do that. They need to get all the nominies for all of the departments past the obstructionist. Just do that until they're caught up.

Or just end the Blue Slip bullshirt that lets one Senator hold up everything and ignore those idiots. They can increase the exeption critera to 25% of the committee or something like that. They need to do something.

You just know that if it were the other way, the Reps would be getting their nominees through. They'd probably just roofie the obstructionists.

"All those in favor of promoting Wingnut McAsshat, say Aye"

    -- a chorus of "Ayes'

    "Those opposed?"

    "Zzzzzz"

TX AG Ken Paxton, recently impeached, not even trying to hide the corruption. Great job, TX, electing this man. 🤦‍♀️

A Republican-backed spending bill threatens to end national access to mail-order abortion pills and cut billions from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Snap) that provides low-income families with food benefits.

The legislation is part of a spate of appropriations bills that lawmakers will debate this month, and which Congress must reach a decision on by the end of September in order to pass a budget for the 2024 fiscal year and avoid a federal shutdown.

It was already approved by a House appropriations subcommittee in May, while being condemned by Democrats and causing internal rifts among Republicans. Republicans have added several provisions to the bill that would have wide-ranging effects on reproductive rights, health policy and benefits……
