This election nonsense by Trump may end up splitting up the Republican Party. I just don’t see how the one third (?) who are principled conservatives can stay in the same party with Trump sycophants who are willing to sign onto the TX Supreme Court case.

We also saw the alt right types chanting “destroy the GOP” in Washington today because they didn’t keep Trump in power. I think the Q types will also hold the same ill will toward the traditional Republican Party. In fact its quite possible that all the voters who are really in a Trump personality cult will also blame the GOP for his loss. It’s only a matter of time IMO before Trump himself gets around to blaming the GOP.

There is some discussion of this on Twitter. What do you all think?

DeSantis is a real problem. However, we can hope CPAC isn’t representative of the majority of Republicans. I don’t think it is, just my opinion. But it’s a pretty large portion, maybe 35-40%? Just a wild guess.

All of the sane Republicans are going to have to unite with democrats to vote the crazy Rs out. It’s just as important now as it was in 2020. This will have to occur at the state levels as well, as some of the crazier folks have taken over some state R parties. Its so important now to study the people on the ballot, you cannot go by the Party to know if they are crazy.
I'll have to see it to believe it.

You’re helping, right? I have a lot of hope that before 2024 people will wake up to just how crazy some of these Rs have become.

My frustration level is pretty high.
Yet I'll get a break from this stuff soon.
My family of three is flying out of Phila this Mon. night.
Arriving in Dublin Ireland Tues. morning.
A refreshing break from US politics...
After 2 days in Dublin we will transfer to Northern Ireland.
    We hope to see this....

Twas the night before our flight and all thru the house.....
Not a traveler was stirring not e-ven a mouse.............
The suitcases were stuffed and the carry-ons too.........
I'll not be posting while in Ireland, I'll just be enjoyin' the view

I'm not nearly as optimistic based on conversations with some of the more conservative Republicans I know. They still like Trump and even DeSantis. Don't know if they're a majority of Republicans or not, but the sentiment seems that they can't see anything wrong with the Republican Party right now. So, idk.

They may be part of the 35-40%? You said they are more conservative (actually more extreme, because neither Trump nor DeSantis are conservative, as you know).

For the past few weeks, Rose Koepsell has awakened to one of the best views in Washington.
“It’s surreal,” said Koepsell.

“We get up in the morning, and there is the nation’s Capitol, sir, staring us straight in the face. And then you look to the west, and it’s the Washington Monument. How cool.”

Koepsell, 57, from a small town near Lake Tahoe, Calif., isn’t staying in a pricey hotel room. She’s been living in her Dodge Grand Caravan along the National Mall by the National Gallery of Art.

That’s where she and other members of the newly formed 1776 Restoration Movement — which broke off from the People’s Convoy demonstrations against coronavirus mandates earlier this year — have parked their protest.

They were hoping that thousands or maybe even millions of other Americans would join their cause, Tom Fisher, a 70-year-old retired state park ranger from Arizona, said as he stood in the shade on a blisteringly hot Washington afternoon last week.

Instead, there are about two dozen stalwarts who’ve camped out with American flag-draped cars and trucks since July 6 to demonstrate against what they say is America’s slow but sure abandonment of the Constitution and to call for a peaceful return “to a constitutional Republic through the restoration of a moral society.”

“I’m disappointed,” Fisher said. “I thought once we occupied D.C., people would come out.”
People didn’t. The response, instead, has been mostly indifference. As well as some heckling and trolling. And some criticism that the 1776 Restoration Movement is just another group using a narrowly defined patriotism to grift for dollars and social media clout……..

    “One, two, three, FREEDOM!”
On most days the meeting is followed by a march around the U.S. Capitol with signs and flags.

They have been greeted with a mixture of thumbs ups and “freedom fingers,” as the group has taken to calling the universally recognized middle-finger salute delivered by people who they say tell them to “get a job” or “go home.”

They have copies of the Constitution to hand out to anyone interested and pamphlets stating their beliefs: “We are a constitutional Republic We are not a Democracy. Governments are Established Not to Make us Equal, but to Protect our Liberties. Federal Agencies should be State Managed.”…….

Many in the splinter group say they are anti-socialist and anti-big government and anti anything they think is anti-American.

Their food and gas expenses are funded, they say, by other Americans who feel the same way they do. The group’s brochure solicits donations through Cash App, Venmo and Zelle. Riddell estimates the group has raised about $73,000 since forming.

They don’t believe mainstream news and get their information from far-right websites. They also follow each other’s live streams (there are lots of live streams).

In their shared distrust of government and politicians and media, they found a community of like-minded souls.

    They also insist they’re nonpartisan………

Peaceful protest in Washington DC parks is a long-standing tradition. As long as they don’t break laws, they should be free to do this.

After he was seen walking dressed in combat fatigues behind then-President Donald Trump across Lafayette Square after it had been forcibly cleared of Black Lives Matter protesters in June 1, 2020, Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joints Chiefs of Staff, drafted a resignation letter to inform Trump that he intended to step down.

The letter was published by the New Yorker Monday in an excerpt of an upcoming book by Peter Baker and Susan Glasser titled, "The Divider: Trump in the White House."

"The events of the last couple weeks have caused me to do deep soul-searching," Milley wrote, "and I can no longer faithfully support and execute your orders as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. It is my belief that you were doing great and irreparable harm to my country. I believe that you have made a concerted effort over time to politicize the United States military. I thought that I could change that. I’ve come to the realization that I cannot, and I need to step aside and let someone else try to do that.

Milley was widely criticized for participating in what critics saw as a staged photo op. Hours before their march across Lafayette Square, Trump had clashed with Milley, Attorney General William Barr and Defense Secretary Mark Esper, who objected to his demands for a militarized show of force to quell the protesters.

“You are all losers! You are all f***ing losers!” Trump said, according to the book. “Can’t you just shoot them? Just shoot them in the legs or something?” (Esper later recalled the discussion in an interview with CBS’s “60 Minutes.”)

In his letter, Milley told Trump, "You are using the military to create fear in the minds of the people — and we are trying to protect the American people."

"I cannot stand idly by and participate in that attack, verbally or otherwise, on the American people," Milley wrote. "The American people trust their military and they trust us to protect them against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and our military will do just that. We will not turn our back on the American people."..........

An apparel company known for inflammatory apparel championing the Second Amendment and Donald Trump has been fined after the Federal Trade Commission found the company falsely claimed its imported apparel is made in the U.S.

Utah-based Lions Not Sheep and its owner, Sean Whalen, were slapped with a $211,335 fine last week after the FTC found the company removed “Made in China” tags, replacing them with fake “Made in the USA” labels, according to a FTC news release.

The fine comes on the heels of a complaint filed by the FTC in May.

According to the FTC, the company added phony Made in USA labels to clothing imported from China and other countries. The FTC release did not not identify the other countries.

The apparel company sells items including T-shirts, sweatshirts and jackets on its website as well as through Amazon and Etsy.

Products, according to the FTC, are marketed heavily through social media channels, claiming that it would “show people it’s possible to live your life as a LION, Not a sheep.”

Some shirts on its website read “give violence a chance,” depict former President Trump as the Terminator and feature military-style firearms.

"You have two choices, to be lead or to be led," the company's website read on Monday.

Whalen could not immediately be reached for comment by USA TODAY.

In addition to the fine, under a 12-page order from the FTC, the company and its owner must "stop making bogus made in the USA" claims and "come clean about foreign production."............

Some voters in Wisconsin are certain Donald Trump rightfully won the 2020 election because they don't know anyone who will admit voting for President Joe Biden.

The former president's election lies dominate the state's Republican primary, where GOP candidates range from those who believe the last presidential election was rigged against Trump to those who say the results can be overturned nearly two years later -- although there's no mechanism in state or federal law that could accomplish that, reported the New York Times.

“Everybody that I’ve talked to voted for Trump,” said Cyndy Deeg, a food industry worker from Larsen. “He should be reinstated and resume the position, because he never surrendered it.”..........
