The football board had the very useful Daily Trump Tracker thread, which was a good place to briefly discuss the latest ridiculous thing that might have ended 97% of prior Presidential administrations even if it didn't necessarily justify an entire thread devoted to it in 2017-2019 (because of the sheer volume of these things). Since I don't see anything like that here already, I'll add one myself.

That's just his way of saying, "I didn't know that."
Yep the things he doesn't know are flabbergasting.

I am still floored he was standing at pearl harbour and did not know what the Arizona was The USS Arizona? He is just a idiot.

It’s an admission that it’s surprising to him that a Republican would be the one to free the slaves, based on his experience with Republicans.

So Trump spent part of the night re-tweeting Daily Caller articles - Tucker Carlson’s rag. And praising Carlson for his work on TV. And David Duke is touting him as a VP replacement for Pence. And some (no idea how many actually but it’s
Definitely a presence online) Republicans are talking about him for a 2024 run.

    And then there’s this....

Tucker is pretty mainstream for the GOP. This isn’t fringe. The racism - which has been a hallmark for his show - now has an explicit face and name.

    What happens next?

This is where party-wide condemnation comes in, otherwise the racist albatross around your neck only becomes more justified.

He seems to be a full blown incel on top of the racism. Used that forum to ridicule and harass several women, seems to have had a special hatred for Asian women, but that was only a matter of degree. He published on the forum details about these women who he was friends with on FB. Used things they had said thinking he was a “friend” to ridicule them, and published it for everyone on that forum to see.

Tucker has basically the same agenda. He wasn’t just a writer for Carlson, he was the head writer. Tucker acknowledges his major contributions several times on the record and fairly recently.

This isn’t a aberration, IMO, this is a feature that adds to Carlson’s appeal among certain demographics. I wish it weren’t so, and five years ago I wouldn’t have believed this talk was this common. But I know better now. It’s all out there, they’re not even really trying to hid the racism and misogyny anymore.

Just dawned on me, now we know why Carlson went after Duckworth so hard, why he said a Purple Heart recipient who lost limbs while piloting a helicopter shot down in service to this country “hates America”.

And people make him a highly rated host on Fox.

    Damage control begins...

I suppose the next step is to try and use it as a point of principle, proving how not-a-racist Carlson is. And then his show will continue - with unabated racism - just like regular.

This is gonna be hard for Tucker, IMO. He’s part and parcel of that culture.

I don’t think Trump’s 2016 message was nearly this pointed about racial and cultural issues. There was some of it, particularly in the immigration issue, but it was far more focused on discontinuing a “corrupt / law-breaking” Democrat regime, rebalancing trade deals, and spurring manufacturing and the broader economy. I think this appealed to right and middle voters who have no interest in culture war.

His enemies were China, Islamic terrorists, illegal immigrants, and Hillary Clinton. In 2020, his enemies are what he describes as "left-wing radicals" but in reality the push for social and criminal reform is far more mainstream. He's now lumping in the likes of Nascar and the NFL as being part of this movement. (Note, however, that he hasn't attacked the Southeastern Conference or the Mississippi legislature for making the same decision that Nascar did).

I don't think his message is the same in 2020 as it was in 2016. It's far more narrow and exclusive.
I don't see the difference. He was more discreet about the racism but it was there. It only seems to have changed because he, and his supporters, are more bold about it.

People were comfortable with the racism because it was more discreet, and it didn't affect them. The mark of fascism has always been on his campaign.

Yep this book is gonna be amazing. From all the cheating like he did not take the SAT he paid someone else to take it for him. The stories of the crazy family stuff is gonna be fun.

This is the book he is most scared of it exposed how much he truly is a flake.
I don't think that it'll be a problem. A good chunk of his supporters don't read, and the rest of them will just call it liberal propaganda.

I was busy working earlier, but yeah, he snapped.

You know, for a voting base that claims to hate whiners, they sure have no problem following one of the biggest whiners I’ve ever seen. The victim complex is just ridiculous.

We know why, it's simple, and we do it a bit too (not as much). It is not considered whining if you actually believe it is a grave injustice. And we only care about our 'stuff'.
