The football board had the very useful Daily Trump Tracker thread, which was a good place to briefly discuss the latest ridiculous thing that might have ended 97% of prior Presidential administrations even if it didn't necessarily justify an entire thread devoted to it in 2017-2019 (because of the sheer volume of these things). Since I don't see anything like that here already, I'll add one myself.

...and he's bringing back these super spreader events at a time when we have 100k Covid cases per day. Narcissists are going to narcissist I guess.
The worst thing about the continued spread is that it will result in a lot more deaths. The vaccine won't stop you from dying once you have the disease. Now that we know Pfizer's vaccine is very effective, we may be a few months away from distribution of a vaccine. We just need to slow the spread down. I think another stimulus coupled with vast increases in quick tests, and quarantining of any suspected victims, coupled with getting those quarantined people whatever support they need is what will get this spread under control. Unfortunately, by 20 JAN, we might be over 200k/day.

As for Trump's rallies, those are potentially going to inflame emotions and stoke violence. The question is what will our institutions do to maintain control, since they work for the man stoking the violence. Will Trump direct the FBI to stand down? Does Trump want to stir trouble so that he can declare martial law, then get the military involved? I'm sure his team is thinking of trying all of the crazy ideas that people say can't happen.

Trump is bringing back his loser rallies to protest the election results. It sure seems like he's trying to mount and armed insurrection at this point. This is going as badly as we all knew it would.

I have asked this during the campaign and now that the campaign is over I have to ask again, WHOSE PAYING FOR THIS???

For the next two and a half months he'll continue to stick as many expenses as he can to tax payers, believe that. After he's out of office he'll probably have a travelling grievance show where he can charge admission.

It is not a fait de compli that he's out of office. He lost the election, but he will maneuver to avoid leaving office. I won't be relieved until he is actually gone from the Whitehouse, and even then we will have to maintain our guard, because his acolytes are not going anywhere any time soon.

The crazier he acts the less likely the United States Supreme Court will side with him. I think there will be five votes with Roberts and Gorsuch. Possibly even Barrett. These people do not want to install a psychotic dictator absent real evidence of wide-spread voter fraud.

As I've said all along, the only thing that matters is who the military decides to support.

Ordinarily, the military avoids getting involved in politics on Capitol Hill. But this isn't ordinary. I can only hope the new Secretary does things by the book. As first glace, he seems to be.

I have hope the generals will ignore him if he doesn't.

So, I've started reading up on the new guy. 30 years career military. Seems to know the ins and outs and is well known on Capitol Hill. I feel a little bit better about the pick at this point. If all he's doing is carrying the baton until Jan 20, I'm not too worried. While OSD weilds a lot of power, the Joint Chiefs all have a lot of power in their own right and I think they'll be business as usual.

I was originally worried that Trump would put some incompetent boob in there. Just relieved thats not the case..

The law provides the FBI director with a ten year term unless fired for a specific violation. What could Trump come up with for Barr to pull the trigger?

I doubt that's happening. Comey was a different situation. I'm not aware of anything Wray has done that would get him in hot water.

Trump is America’s abusive spouse. He seems fine when he gets everything he wants and people respect him. But the moment he feels in anyway less than, he will lash out. I expect more destructive firings and policy until Jan 20.
