The football board had the very useful Daily Trump Tracker thread, which was a good place to briefly discuss the latest ridiculous thing that might have ended 97% of prior Presidential administrations even if it didn't necessarily justify an entire thread devoted to it in 2017-2019 (because of the sheer volume of these things). Since I don't see anything like that here already, I'll add one myself.

I find this disturbing along with espers resignation. I hope this a nothing burger.

I hope you're right as well...but...this isn't a nothing burger by a long shot. I have a feeling we're gonna see some scorched earth moves until Jan 21. It ain't gonna be pretty. I just hope the people in the know blunt Trump's blowback if he goes off the rails.

That makes you, me and superchuck wondering about if he'll go scorched earth. I am willing to bet a lot of Trump supporters would be in favor of burning it all down.

Name a time in his life that he wasn't destructively vindictive after not getting his way. When it comes to that, he's the scorpion on the frog's back.

Ts looking at 2022 are going to have to do a hard calculus soon (heck the GA runoff will too, those are 2 trump loving Rs)
I don’t know if they can generate anyone to fill the clownshoes- DevinNunes? Matt Gaetz? Hannity?
It’s hard to replace a populist
What will the base want/demand and can someone bridge that with whatever moderate Rs are left?

In a word, no. And tbh, the moderates shouldn't bridge with the Ts or any of the other right wing nuts. Moderates should either force them out of the party or leave. Trumpism has to be completely disavowed. Otherwise, there's no room for me. There's no room in my worldview for Trumpism. Before the election, I had to be careful what I say because of the position I'm in. But now I don't have to worry as much since he's on his way out.

The Georgia runoffs are gonna be a war. The Rs probably will be favored. But if Stacy Abrams can get the turnout up, the D candidates have a legit shot to win. I bet we're about to see a record amount of money spent on these 2 races.

I'm not sure if I'm ready for a completely one sided government though. I guess we'll see.

A pandemic is no time to have an obstructionist like McConnel in a position of control

It depends on the issue. If we're talking about the pandemic and stimulus, I agree. But there are other considerations as well. I think the smart thing would be to pick and choose what you want to object to and not stall everything in the Senate. They compromised on the first stimulus, but the second one was never likely with the election so close.

We'll see what the lame duck and new Congress does. Something will be done regardless.

What has McConnel done that gives you confidence that he should have say so over what Americans should have and be able to do?

They have passed legislation in the past. It's not like they've been sitting on their hands the entire time. Do they obstruct everything? No. Do they obstruct really, really important stuff? Sometimes. I'm no fan of McConnell. But I'm not necessarily ready to give one party both chambers of Congress and the Presidency. I mean, if it happens, I'm not gonna be bent about it because there are elections every couple of years. I wouldn't want Republicans having control over all of it any more than the Democrats. I'd much rather they share power and compromise on most everything.

Sounds cool in theory. But does not reflect the reality that is Mr McConnel and all the senators that quietly support all his evil. This is just a softer version both sides.

The whole system only works when their is good faith involved on both sides. Show us just one example of Mr McConnel doing anything in good faith.

I don't know about good faith, but they did pass the first stimulus package. Or does that not count?
