I guess it's time to start a thread for this. We know that at least 140 members of Congress have pledged to join the objection. Under federal law, if at least one member of each house (HOR and Senate) objects, each house will adjourn the joint session for their own session (limited at two hours) to take up the objection. If both houses pass a resolution objecting to the EC result, further action can take place. If both houses do not (i.e. if one or neither passes a resolution), the objection is powerless and the college result is certified.

Clearly this is political theater as we know such a resolution will not pass the House, and there's good reason to think it wouldn't pass the Senate either (with or without the two senators from Georgia). The January 6 joint session is traditionally a ceremonial one. This one will not be.

Many traditional pillars of Republican support have condemned the plan as futile and damaging. Certainly the Trump loyalists don't care - and many are likely doing it for fundraising purposes or to carry weight with the fraction of their constituencies that think this is a good idea.

This side topic all started about Boebert being accused of coordinating with the rioters and feeding information. Usually people levy those types of accusations wanting some sort of punishment in return. The unspoken context is that there are calls to censure various Congressmen and women.

I don't know if she's done anything to merit punishment, nor would I hold out much hope that if she had, anything would be done to address it. I do have concerns about her, beginning with a political identity that's largely built around guns. On that particular day, I had already found her 1776 tweet troubling.

I do think this thread is useful for documenting people's words and actions, and casting light on things of interest that are drawing attention, and in her case, some of that attention is coming from her colleagues.

And in a quest to understand the radicalization of the right that is becoming increasingly violent, I think it's necessary to look at the political rhetoric and those dishing it out. I think she has a place in that discussion.

"Senator Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader, has told associates that he believes President Trump committed impeachable offenses and that he is pleased that Democrats are moving to impeach him, believing that it will make it easier to purge him from the party, according to people familiar with his thinking. The House is voting on Wednesday to formally charge Mr. Trump with inciting violence against the country."

That's the type of political move I would expect Mitch McConnell to make. But he's still scared, or he wouldn't be tip toeing so much around it. He would have already called backed Congress and announced support for Impeachment.

I don't think he can call them back early. Again, any one senator can object.
