I guess it's time to start a thread for this. We know that at least 140 members of Congress have pledged to join the objection. Under federal law, if at least one member of each house (HOR and Senate) objects, each house will adjourn the joint session for their own session (limited at two hours) to take up the objection. If both houses pass a resolution objecting to the EC result, further action can take place. If both houses do not (i.e. if one or neither passes a resolution), the objection is powerless and the college result is certified.

Clearly this is political theater as we know such a resolution will not pass the House, and there's good reason to think it wouldn't pass the Senate either (with or without the two senators from Georgia). The January 6 joint session is traditionally a ceremonial one. This one will not be.

Many traditional pillars of Republican support have condemned the plan as futile and damaging. Certainly the Trump loyalists don't care - and many are likely doing it for fundraising purposes or to carry weight with the fraction of their constituencies that think this is a good idea.

Well, to be fair, that sort of language can be found in lots of campaigns and political speak. Hardly new. But certainly, a lot of the rhetoric of the last 10-15 years is over the top and that needs to be curbed. Metaphors are used a lot in politics, but all that became all to real last week.

I don't think that language was ever meant to be anything other than fighting a political fight.
The carrying a gun in DC is stupid though. I get the claim of it being for self defense, but the optics of that is pretty terrible in light of what's happened since the 6th.

I'm curious to see what happens after Biden is inaugurated, but my prediction is a return to the status quo. Screwed up, but it is what it is.

... but when your base habitually put their PMC costumes, walk around packed, allude to dying for the cause, perhaps the whole battle rhetoric is not appropriate?

    I don't think that's the argument.

I think the argument is making sure we're not so caught up in the moment that we over reach with punishment things that are far more common. Acceptable or not.

It's like that old Star Trek episode where a civilization wipes its self out, because there was no "perfect" or "true" version of their species. The machines killed them all.

I don't see where in his post it says anything about punishment, but the language being used?

This side topic all started about Boebert being accused of coordinating with the rioters and feeding information. Usually people levy those types of accusations wanting some sort of punishment in return. The unspoken context is that there are calls to censure various Congressmen and women.

Boebert, along with everyone else, was explicitly warned about tweeting during the riots. She chose to ignore that and specifically tweeted about the fact that the Speaker wasn’t with the rest of them.

She needs to be investigated, imo.

    Ok??

    Check out his resignation letter:

And some background from that article. He's not just some 'kid staffer' or random aid.
Before working on Capitol Hill, Schmid did two tours of duty in Iraq as an Army intelligence analyst. He was wounded there while embedded with an Iraqi infantry battalion.

He later worked as chief of congressional affairs for the Defense Department’s Special Programs Office. As an Armed Services Committee staffer, he has advised lawmakers on some of the Pentagon’s most sensitive capabilities and operations.

I am thoroughly impressed with this ongoing FBI briefing thus far...it just ended. Anyway, they spoke of over 170 current investigations/charges already, with many of those individuals likely facing escalating charges to include sedition.

I really hope the politicians would just stop the rhetoric and allow the FBI to continue their work. In particular, it does no one any good for them to be on their soapbox about incitement charges for the other individuals that spoke at the proceeding rally (other than POTUS) because trump would just wave his magic wand and kill any chance of holding them accountable.

I haven't been able to watch. I think this is the full briefing.

A lot of these wackos are getting scared now that the crap has hit the fan. Over at that other political site that has been mentioned here sparingly, they have whitewashed the site and removed a lot of threads. The owner ever posted a new warning to the members about what they post. Prior to that, you could find many threads about "patriots killing democrats" and "violence being the only thing that democrats understand"

It's funny that prior to 1/6 and the crackdown by social media outlets, all those things were certainly tolerated.
Ah man, they got rid of their Election 2020 board. I found it quite entertaining...and disturbing.

That may be true for Giuliani an Don Jr., but I don't think Trump's pardon power would extend to any consequences Mo Brook would face coming from the House, though I may be wrong.

If the FBI/DOJ does go down that route, I'm sure they'll wait until after Trump leaves office on the 20th to announce any of those indictments. It's not like the statue of limitations is going to run out by then.

@superchuck500 - just like that article i think you posted ( or someone did ) the other day about the "deep state".

i paraphrase here- " they cheered on the Kraken, but on Jan 6 poked Leviathan"

That article was spot on - there is a "Deep State" but its made up of the Federal Law Enforcement/Intelligence/National security apparatus. And they have now turned some their attention to the whole Q/white supremacy/militia types. ( domestic insurgent types )

    Congrats.
