Oh, but he's only joking - well, maybe, so they say. Or sort of joking with Canada, and maybe not joking with Greenland - saying that "ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity" doesn't sound like a joke . . . and um, not sure about what the about Panama Canal thing is?

President Donald Trump is reportedly planning to announce that the United States will begin referring to the Persian Gulf as the “Arabian Gulf” or “Gulf of Arabia” in a snub to Iran.

Two administration officials have told theAssociated Press that Trump will visit the region next week, touring Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. He is set to make the announcement as a friendly overture to his hosts.

The body of water, lying between eastern Saudi Arabia and the southwestern coast of Iran, has been widely known by its current name since the 16th century. However, the region’s Arab nations have preferred a designation closer to Trump’s.…….

What the fork is with this guy? Can someone sew his mouth shut, please.

Speaker Mike Johnson is running into some resistance from fellow House Republicans on a bill to codify President Donald Trump’s push to rename the Gulf of Mexico.

Nebraska Rep. Don Bacon said Tuesday he will oppose the vote later this week, which is expected in the House Thursday, complicating matters for Johnson and GOP leaders in their slim majority.

At this point in the week, two GOP leadership sources told CNN they still believe the bill can pass, though Johnson cannot afford to lose many more votes. Few, if any, Democrats are expected to vote for the bill, according to multiple Democratic members and senior aides.

“It just seems juvenile,” Bacon told CNN. “We’re the United States of America. We’re not Kaiser Wilhelm’s Germany or Napoleon’s France. I just – we’re better than this. It just sounds like a sophomore thing to do.”

The bill, which was authored by Georgia GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, would require federal agencies to update all maps and documents with the “Gulf of America” instead of the Gulf of Mexico.

Bacon is not the only House Republican who is throwing cold water on the measure.

The issue came up during a heated meeting of House Republicans on Monday night, in which Bacon, along with Reps. Glenn Grothman of Wisconsin and Jay Obernolte of California, criticized the bill, according to a person in the room.

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer then urged members not to choose this issue as their “hill to die on,” that person said.............

Anything to pleasure the Mad Hatter, spread those legs…🤔

House Republicans on Thursday approved a bill to rename the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of America,” the first step in codifying one of the executive orders President Trump signed on Inauguration Day.

The chamber cleared the legislation — titled the “Gulf of America Act” — in a 211-206 vote, sending it to the Senate for consideration, where its future looks dim. At least seven Democrats would need to join all Republicans in supporting the legislation for it to pass, an unlikely scenario.

For now, however, Republicans are touting House passage of the measure as a victory for Trump’s agenda and his “America first” mantra. In a sign of the excitement among Republicans, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) displayed a large sign outside his office depicting a map with the “Gulf of America” label.

“Names matter,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who sponsored the legislation, said on the House floor Thursday. “Parents take a lot of time when they think about what to name a child that they’re happy to welcome in the world because they have pride and they’re to welcome their new baby into the world and that’s why they take pride in the name that they name their child.”

“And as we rename the gulf the Gulf of America we are also taking pride in those waters,” she added. “There are an estimated half a million businesses operating along the gulf coast. The gulf is a major economic hub, particularly for oil and gas production.”………..

Mexico has sued Google for changing the Gulf of Mexico’s name to “Gulf of America” for Google Maps users in the United States, Claudia Sheinbaum, Mexico’s president, said on Friday.

“The lawsuit has already been filed,” Sheinbaum said at her morning news conference, without saying where and when it was submitted.

On Thursday, Republicans in the House of Representatives approved legislation to codify Donald Trump’s policy of renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America”.

The measure was sponsored by rightwing Georgia lawmaker Marjorie Taylor Greene and passed nearly along party lines, with all Democrats opposed and almost every Republican, with the exception of vulnerable Nebraska representative Don Bacon, voting in favor.

The bill would make the name change official for federal agencies, but it’s unlikely to attract the Democratic support needed to pass the Senate. Even if it did, other countries have no obligation to use the new name.

Sheinbaum had warned Google, which is part of tech giant Alphabet, in February that she was considering legal action unless the company reversed its decision.

Her government argues that Trump’s executive order on the subject only applies to the part of the continental shelf belonging to the United States.

“All we want is for the decree issued by the US government to be complied with,” Sheinbaum said.

“The US government only calls the portion of the US continental shelf the Gulf of America, not the entire gulf, because it wouldn’t have the authority to name the entire gulf,” she added.…..

Greenland Signs Lucrative Minerals Deal with Europe in Blow to Trump

COPENHAGEN, May 21 (Reuters) - Greenland on Wednesday handed a 30-year mining permit to a Danish-French mining group aiming to extract a moon-like rock that could offer a climate-friendly alternative in aluminium production.

Private U.S. business delegations have visited the island since the beginning of the year, but formal dialogue with the new U.S. administration has yet to begin, she said.
However, dialogue with European partners was progressing: "There is no doubt that the dialogue with both the EU and Denmark is going smoother. This is not only the result of the noise made by the U.S. administration, but also the result of several years of intensified cooperation," Nathanielsen said

President Trump said on Tuesday that Canada is “considering” his offer of joining the United States as the 51st state in exchange for no-cost protection by the proposed “Golden Dome” missile defense system.

“I told Canada, which very much wants to be part of our fabulous Golden Dome System, that it will cost $61 Billion Dollars if they remain a separate, but unequal, Nation, but will cost ZERO DOLLARS if they become our cherished 51st State,” Trump wrote Tuesday in a post on Truth Social.

“They are considering the offer!” the president added.

Canadian officials, as of Tuesday evening, had not addressed Trump’s latest remarks, but Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has repeatedly said that his country would not join the U.S. under any circumstances.

Carney’s recent election victory is seen by many as fueled by his rejection of Trump’s musings about Canada becoming the 51st state.…..

CALGARY, Alberta — As President Donald Trump visits western Canada for this week’s Group of Seven economic summit, a passionate minority is thrilled by his talk of making them part of a 51st state.

Across most of Canada, Trump’s annexation talk has caused outrage. His antagonism has stirred displays of flag-waving patriotism that are unusual here. In downtown Calgary, shops that sell maple syrup and other Canadian souvenirs have seen a surge in purchases of Canadian-flag lapel pins. A bookstore says “Proudly Canadian” in its window.

But the U.S. president’s expansionist designs have also galvanized a “Make Alberta Great Again” movement, which has gained traction among some in western Canada long frustrated by a Liberal government that they say stifles the oil and gas industry that drives their economy. For them, Trump’s 51st-state talk is not a provocation, but a chance for lower taxes, Second Amendment gun rights and a shot at the American Dream.

At the Red Deer Curling Center, about 90 miles north of Calgary, hundreds of Albertans gathered Saturday to discuss their frustrations with Ottawa at an event hosted by the right-wing media company Rebel News. Several in the crowd wore black or red Make Alberta Great Again caps, and provincial flags flew from their trucks in the packed parking lot. Most cheered as a speaker standing in front of a black curtain that partially covered the rink’s scoreboard made the case for forming a 51st state.

Jacob Fraser, selling bags of Resistance Coffee at the event, said he was “excited” when Trump began talking about annexing all or part of Canada. The 37-year-old sees joining the United States as an opportunity to gain more freedom of speech, more gun rights and more opportunities to pursue his own businesses.

“We’re very much intertwined with the States, and as Albertans, especially, we’re very much more compatible with the American perspectives than the current Canadian perspective,” he said. “For me and a lot of my social groups, it’s a hopeful moment and an exciting time in history.”

Nationwide, that’s clearly a minority view. Backlash to Trump, who was set to arrive here Sunday night, helped fuel Prime Minister Mark Carney’s victory in late April — a stunning comeback by his Liberal Party over the Conservatives, who had a healthy lead before Trump’s taunts.

About 15 percent of all Canadians supported joining the United States as of a January poll by YouGov. That percentage was slightly larger in the prairie provinces, including Alberta — “Canada’s Texas” — where some say they have more in common with Republicans in the U.S. than with their compatriots in the rest of the country.

Albertans who support joining the U.S. are a faction of a broader group of western Canadians who are alienated by Canada’s government. They have made their presence visible with billboards and blue-rubber bracelets that say “AB USA.”

Shawn Harvey, a 52-year-old oil-field-tanker driver who lives in Edmonton, flaunted his support for joining the U.S. with a red, white and blue hockey jersey emblazoned with the number 51 and Trump’s slogan “Drill Baby Drill.”

He has talked to immigration attorneys about attempting to seek political asylum in the U.S., and he is ready to make a deal with any liberal Americans who are considering a move to Canada to seek refuge from the second Trump administration.

“I’ll trade places with them any day,” Harvey said during an interview in Edmonton at Montana’s, a Canadian barbecue restaurant chain with antlers hanging on the walls. “I’ll burn my Canadian passport right in front of them, and I’ll go there. No problem.”.............

51st state? Bring it on, these Canadians say.

Well, Mr. Harvey, pick you azz up and do it. The talking to attorneys about asylum is a bullschlitz tap dance. You don’t need asylum, just do it.
