The Trump Cabinet and key post thread (7 Viewers)

A senior Democrat has accused Kash Patel, Donald Trump’s controversial nominee as FBI director, of having already secretly orchestrated a purge of the bureau’s agents even as senators debate whether to confirm him in the post.

Dick Durbin, the ranking Democrat on the Senate judiciary committee, said he had “highly credible information” that Patel had given orders to sack senior personnel when he had no power to do so as a private citizen – directly contradicting testimony he had given at a confirmation hearing.

He called the alleged misconduct “absolutely beyond the pale” and demanded an immediate investigation.

The allegations, made in a letter to the justice department inspector general, Michael Horowitz, and first reported by the New York Times, raised the possibility that Patel had committed perjury, he added.

“Although Mr Patel is President Trump’s nominee to be FBI Director, he is still a private citizen with no role in government,” Durbin wrote. “It is unacceptable for a nominee with no current role in government, much less at the FBI, to personally direct unjustified and potentially illegal adverse employment actions against senior career FBI leadership and other dedicated, nonpartisan law enforcement officers.”

Durbin alleged that Patel’s orders were being enforced through the White House deputy chief of staff, Stephen Miller, along with the acting attorney general, Emil Bove, and a newly formed FBI director’s advisory team (DAT).

On 29 January, a meeting had been called with the acting FBI director, Brian Driscoll, and his acting deputy, Robert Kissane, where they were told that a group of executive assistant directors and other supervisors must be fired. The DAT was said to possess a written list of targeted officials, according to Durbin.

Contemporaneous notes of the meeting read “[Kash Patel] wants movement at FBI, reciprocal actions for DOJ,” Durbin wrote.…..

Known alcoholic who promised he had quit drinking during his confirmation hearing drinks Scotch while taking questions. Good job, GOP! I remember @Sendai saying this guy was qualified to be Secretary of Defense.

I don’t recall ever making a comment on Hegseth.

I don’t recall ever making a comment on Hegseth.
Here's a reminder of what you said when several of us questioned his qualifications for the job:
Served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Two Bronze stars. Currently a Major. Bachelors Degree from Princeton and Masters in Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School at Harvard. Might be enough to get the job.

Iraq and Afghanistan and two bronze stars. Close enough. And he clearly has the education.
If they were hiring based off of merit alone, I found his selection to SECDEF as an intentional spit in the face of his predecessor.

Since he lacked experience dealing with a bureaucracy of any size and had not reached General (if a military man was picked imo he/she should have made at least General or the equivalent) he was unqualified. His tendencies towards Christian Nationalism also disqualified him. His alcohol issues were the capper. But apparently those were features, not bugs, for Republicans.

All I did was cite his military experience and education. Decent credentials. And given that, then he had a chance of getting through. It’s the first I’d heard of him.

I also prefer serious administrative experience.

No, his military experience was not “decent”. Decent is those who have moved successively up to handling large scale bases or projects within the pentagon that require thousands of military and civilian personnel.

I know a few health nuts that swear by drinking apple cider vinegar. Seems more likely than swilling scotch at a presser

Musk met with the head of India in the White House. When asked about it Trump indicated he was discussing his own private business ventures. In fact. Trump didn’t seem to know what they talked about. This is not okay. None of this is okay.

His military experience is, at its best, very limited considering he was a Guardsman. His personal ideals of military service are something that is antithetical to everything that you would expect of anyone who is trained and learned in the profession of arms.

Hegseth's advocacy for the pardons of convicted war criminals should have been a red flag.

Seriously? He is a known alcoholic. And as far as I know, you don’t “drink” apple cider vinegar in that way. You take a tsp or so and dilute it in a cup of water. It wouldn’t be that color.

And you wouldn’t do it multiple times. He seemed to have several of those drinks.
according to a quick search 1TB ACV to 8oz water and no more than one a day.

Wait - is he claiming that it was apple cider vinegar? Or did you come up with that?

Because I looked it up to be certain. You shouldn’t ever drink it undiluted, it will damage your teeth, gums and esophagus. It needs to be diluted, and it wouldn’t be that color. Like at all.

That wasn’t apple cider vinegar. No way.

Okay, I looked at some more photos, and the liquid he was drinking appeared colorless and clear in them. I don’t know what it is he is drinking in that still from the post, or whether that photo was altered. I will keep looking for some more info.

Edit: based on watching the video, I’m going to delete my post above. I don’t think he was drinking anything but water and I shouldn’t have believed it to begin with. It’s sad that I thought it might be true based on the other crazy stuff that’s been happening with this Admin.
