Another pandemic and America is screwed. but Republicans will rake in the cash with quack fixes endorsed by the government. but they will die with money in their pockets.

In the summer of 2015, three Syrian girls who had narrowly survived an airstrike some weeks earlier stood before Tulsi Gabbard with horrific burns all over their bodies.

Gabbard, then a US congresswoman on a visit to the Syria-Turkey border as part of her duties for the foreign affairs committee, had a question for them.

“How do you know it was Bashar al-Assad or Russia that bombed you, and not Isis?’” she asked, according to Mouaz Moustafa, a Syrian activist who was translating her conversation with the girls.

It was a revealing insight into Gabbard’s conspiratorial views of the conflict, and it shocked Moustafa to silence. He knew, as even the young children did, that Isis did not have jets to launch airstrikes. It was such an absurd question that he chose not to translate it because he didn’t want to upset the girls, the eldest of whom was 12.

“From that point on, I’m sorry to say I was inaccurate in my translations of anything she said,” Moustafa told The Independent. “It was more like: How do I get these girls away from this devil?”

Even before Gabbard left the Democratic Party, ingratiated herself with Donald Trump and secured his nomination to become director of National Intelligence, she was known as a prolific peddler of Russian propaganda.

In almost every foreign conflict in which Russia had a hand, Gabbard backed Moscow and railed against the US. Her past promotion of Kremlin propaganda has provoked significant opposition on both sides of the aisle to her nomination.……

Republican Senator Markwayne Mullin claims Donald Trump’s pick for defense secretary was “falsely accused” of sexual assault, defending his claim days earlier that Pete Hegseth had just been “flirting” with his accuser.

A recently released police report from the 2017 incident revealed that the woman, who has not been identified, told police that Hegseth blocked the door to stop her from leaving his hotel room and took her phone away beforesexually assaulting her. Hegseth has maintained that the encounter was consensual.

Earlier this week, the Oklahoma senator told reporters in the Capitol that he had read the police report: “If you read it, you can clearly see that it was two people flirting with each other.”

On CNN Sunday, Mullin defended his previous claim and said that be believed Hegseth’s insistence that the encounter was consensual “was accurate,” he said.

“There was no case here. He was falsely accused,” he added. “She was being the aggressor. Pete wasn’t even flirting with her. He was flirting with a different girl, and [the Jane Doe] was trying to flirt with Pete.”……..

Yeah, because normal sex includes blocking exit and taking away a woman’s phone. These people should go rot somewhere.

Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), who was rumored to be on Trump’s shortlist to serve as Treasury secretary, said most American’s “don’t care” whether Trump uses the FBI to vet his nominees, something fellow Republican senators have demanded.

Hagerty argued over the weekend that it doesn’t make a difference to most Americans whether the FBI or an independent firm conducts a background check of a nominee, such as Pete Hegseth, Trump’s choice to serve as secretary of Defense, whom a woman accused of sexual assault in 2017. No charges were filed against Hegseth.

“I don’t think the American public cares who does the background checks. What the American public cares about is to see the mandate that they voted in delivered upon,” Hagerty told ABC’s “This Week” in an interview.

“We need to get to work again. Making our military stronger is absolutely critical. And I think we’re — we’re looking at a chance to do this,” he said.

“If you look at the Cabinet that’s in place right now, that worst that we’ve ever seen,” he said, referring to President Biden’s Cabinet and singling out Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas as “the worst Cabinet secretary in history.”

Other Senate Republicans, however, say the FBI should retain its leading role in conducting background checks, and Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), a member of the Armed Services Committee, says an FBI background check of Hegseth would be “helpful.”..........

There’s that word - mandate. He doesn’t have one no matter how many times they claim it.

Donald Trump’s campaign pledged to be a champion for working class Americans. His incoming administration is stuffed with Wall Street figures and billionaires, including the world’s wealthiest person.

Trump himself is set to become the wealthiest president in history, with an estimated net worth of roughly $5.6 billion, according to Forbes.

After spending years haranguing George Soros, claiming that the billionaire philanthropist was funding Trump’s political enemies and manipulating society with his support for progressive causes, incoming administration figure Elon Musk wants to be a Soros for the right.

Musk, whose net worth is more than $300 billion, joins key Wall Street characters and wealthy officials joining Trump’s White House. Together, their net worth exceeds $340 billion — larger than the gross domestic product of more than 11 dozen countries.

Trump has even picked Soros’s money manager Scott Bessent to lead the Department of Treasury.

The president-elect has tapped at least five billionaires for his administration thus far, including Musk, biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, former professional wrestling magnate Linda McMahon, investment banker Howard Lutnick, and venture capitalist and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum. All of them but Musk and Ramaswamy must be confirmed by the Senate.……..

Donald Trump’s transition team reportedly plans to surround Robert F Kennedy Jr with some anti-abortion figures to appease members of the GOP who are unconvinced by the prospective head of the Department of Health and Human Services and his stance on the divisive issue.

Concerns have been raised about RFK Jr – who previously said he opposed any government limits on abortion at the state or federal level – and his confirmation by the Republican majority Senate. Abortion is guaranteed to come up during the hearing.

Speaking to Fox News, Oklahoma Senator James Lankford, a new member of Senate GOP leadership, said: “It’ll come up in the hearing 100 percent. There’s no question that this will be an issue. I will raise it if no one else does.”

His sentiments have been echoed by other senior GOP figures including former Vice President Mike Pence and South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham.……

    From Maxwell Frost on BlueSky:

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is one of our most efficient agencies. Costs less than $1B a year & has fought to return over $20B directly to Americans.

But I guess it makes sense that a billionaire wants to eliminate one of the agencies that fights for working people. 🤷🏾‍♂️
