Is there a trade deal with China? Is it really a deal or just a pull-back to status quo ante? Is Trump advancing US interests in this well-executed trade battle plan or was this poorly conceived from the start . . . and harmful?

I think the jury's still out, but I haven't seen that the Chinese are offering much in compromise - and it's not even clear if there's going to be an agreement. But it's clear they are working on something and I'm sure Trump will sell it as the greatest trade deal ever. The proof will be in the details.

They have local ACT/SAT tutors that go for $2000 + that guarantee +3-5 pts on ACT and they are never not busy.

Parents are paying $2000 + for 2-3 sessions to have child get an extra 3-5 pts on ACT - not to mention what you noted above as well.

And there is also an element of pressure from the parent(s) on having a child accepted to a certain school - be it reputational ( as if their acceptance is a comment on their parenting ability or genetics ) or simply braggin rights. Its all around nuts.

I will say, when my now college junior was looking at prospective schools, we were told that schools are trending away from ACT/SAT and looking more at the 4 year HS transcripts to get a better idea of student. They understand standardized testing isnt for all and some kids carrying 3.9 gpas from 9-12 grade, yet score a 24 on test- that 24 is NOT a good indicator of the type of student he/she is.

My youngest is dyslexic. Test taking/long reads have always been an issue for her. As she has gotten older, with therapy ( in last year of 3 year therapy thank goodness ) she has gotten so much better, but the baseline was so low, its an issue. Add to it her "confidence" is ( and never will be ) all that very high, and any long form test gives her the heebie jeebies and she psyches herself out before the actual test anyway.

Yet she puts in the hard work and currently carries a 3.75 GPA since 8th grade.

But i get from a college perspective- you get 100,000 applicants, you simply cannot vet each individual student; it would take months they dont have to "accept or deny". So test scores are one way to thin the herd. GPA is another.

Side note- good friends of ours daughter got accepted to Texas. I almost passed out at annual cost.
Do the tests not have special allowances for conditions like dyslexia? Here, individuals with dyslexia and other disabilities receive 50% extra time to complete exams. My nephew, who has Asperger’s, was allowed to take his final exams in a separate room because he struggles to concentrate in crowded environments. He is currently writing his dissertation on nuclear fission at university—extremely intelligent, yet very introverted in social settings.

i should have stated- yes they do. Absolutely.

But when the letters/numbers on the page jumble, it doesnt matter how much time is given, she will simply move on for fear it will only get worse and affect the rest of exam.

They are trying this weird combination of "No recession, no inflation", "yes recession, yes inflation but it'll be worth it in the long run" and "yes recession, yes inflation but it'll be all Biden's fault"

because it's the media's fault

Amid a multi-week Wall Street sell-off that has seen the major stock market indexes approach correction territory over economic uncertainty largely spurred by President Donald Trump’s chaotic trade war, Fox Business anchor Charles Payne grumbled that this was all the media’s fault.

With the Dow Jones index down hundreds of points on Tuesday afternoon, breaking a brief two-day comeback, Payne appeared on Fox News’ America Reports to discuss investors’ continued apprehension and the White House’s attempts to tout the “success” of its economic policies.

“As we have said for years as market watchers, markets do not like uncertainty,” Fox News anchor Sandra Smith noted. “Even if the decision is to go forward with an unpopular policy, or economic plan, the markets can accept that as long as they know what’s coming. It is that uncertainty that continues to weigh on markets.”

Payne, however, trumpeted the Trump administration’s long-term vision while blasting the mainstream press for being biased against the president and far too gloomy with its economic coverage.

“Yeah, but what we’re seeing in the last couple of weeks is a media creation,” he groused. “The media has gone to war with President Trump to make tariffs the scariest thing in the world.”..............

Typical Maga croonie. Everything is somebody elses fault.

And now he’s a marked man and Trump will get rid of him.

Nobody can disagree with Dear Leader. Even if Dear Leader is full of shirt.

In grocery stores across the US, egg shelves sitting empty and desolate have become a sign of the times. A surging bird flu outbreak affected nearly 19 million birds in January alone, wiping out supply and sending prices soaring.

Officials forecast a 41% increase in egg prices this year in what some are calling “eggflation”. Where eggs are available, consumers are often limited in the number they can purchase at a time. Breakfast chains from Waffle House to Denny’s have added a surcharge of $0.50 per egg on their dishes.

The situation is driving some people to new places to source their eggs: over the southern border. US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has intercepted an increasing number of eggs from Mexico, where a carton of a dozen costs about $2. For comparison, the cost in many parts of California is just under $10 per dozen, according to the United States Department of Agriculture.

Nationally, there has been a 48% increase in eggs being detained at ports of entry this fiscal year compared with the same time last fiscal year, according to CBP. In San Diego, these “egg interception” cases have increased by a whopping 158%.

Every day, more than 200,000 cars cross the border from Mexico to the United States. Some of those cars carry groceries, medications and other goods that are less expensive over the southern border.

“It’s very common for people to shop for their groceries on the Mexican side and bring them across,” said Joaquin Luken, executive director of the Smart Border Coalition, a group that helps facilitate cross-border mobility. “So a lot of them bring dry produce materials that they buy on the Mexican side.”

But the problems start with fresh items – especially eggs. Importing raw or fresh eggs into the US is prohibited due to concerns about diseases such as highly pathogenic avian influenza – also known as bird flu – and another highly contagious avian illness called virulent Newcastle disease, said Roger Maier, a public affairs specialist with CBP.

And it’s not just eggs. Travelers are prohibited from bringing raw chicken, unprocessed avian products and live birds into the United States, Maier said. Even used egg cartons can spread the same diseases.

That’s why anyone with agricultural products has to declare them to border officers and agriculture specialists. “Failure to declare may lead to potential fines and penalties,” said Maier. He added that most of the eggs being confiscated by border agriculture specialists are from travelers who declared the product and then abandoned them without consequence.

“There have been very few cases of people purposefully evading the inspection process/failing to declare the product,” he said. “When that happens, a $300 civil penalty is applied, and the eggs are seized.”

Once confiscated, the eggs are destroyed by officials in oven-sized incinerators. Repeat offenders can be fined up to $10,000............

Today, Trump announced Boeing won the contract for the new Next Gen Fighter.

Lockheed Martin was the developer/mfg of the f35 ( most recent nexgen fighter ) that is CURRENTLY producing for sales to allies. ( and prior F22 Raptor )

Well, were.

Trump today.

From Election day til today- Lockheed Martin stock.

one other nugget- Lockheed has also been lambasted for its F35 by none other than Elon Musk.

Wanna guess what OTHER contracts Lockheed vying for? Thats right, space rockets.

Trump is late...Europe is already moving away from US based weapons as quickly as possible

Portugal has already cancelled their F35 order and Germany, Canada, Germany, Denmark and Finland is currently either taking steps to or contemplating the same - which will cost a lot of US jobs. EU is looking to European solutions and especially the Swedish Grifen has proven itself because it is cost-effective, easy to maintain, has short takeoff/landing capability and strong electronic warfare systems which in Ukraine has proven its effectiveness against drones

Trump is a coward and he has turned the US into a country that is more eager to face off with its allies than face a, perceived, equal adversary. Total birch-made move.

Oh this is damage control- he knows very well what is happening. This is his attempt to get out in front - hence the lil nugget of " they may not be allies eventually anyway "

But for the many of US voters, particularly his base, they arent educated on the happenings with respect to global markets. Nor do they wish to be.

For those paying attention, it was clear what that statement was for.

US may actually face some problems when it comes to F35 and Europe since multiple components are not only produced in Europe but also developed there. Which means that BAE Systems and Rolls-Royce which are integral to the F-35's development, providing components like the rear fuselage and the LiftSystem for the F-35B variant are patented by those companies and the Danish defense and aerospace manufacturer Terma A/S has developed and holds several patents on some of the over 70 parts for the F-35 they has reseached and produced, including leading edges and composite tail parts.
