There’s a lot of discussion of this in various threads but I think it needs its own. In the aftermath of Helene, we have Milton bearing down on the Tampa area. It looks like it’s gonna be bad. The FEMA Director has already said that additional funds are needed – but speaker Johnson has indicated that he does not wish to reconvene the house in order to approve additional disaster funding.

There have been 152 declared disaster areas in 2024 – I looked it up. They come in the form of fires, floods, blizzards, and ice, storms, earthquakes, tornadoes, and hurricanes. There is no set number of assistance funds needed in any given year, and anyone who suggest that “FEMA spent all the money” is being ignorant or worse.

Milton is going to be bad. This is going to be a big issue in the near term. And it counties to shock me that MAGA in Congress won’t vote for disaster funds - including people like Senator Rick Scott of Florida and Congresswoman Nancy Mace of coastal South Carolina. How on earth do they get re-elected?

And I just want to also say that I HATE the online ignorance about this stuff. Like people using a flight tracker of a NOAA hurricane hunter flight as evidence of storm seeding. It’s just so stupid.

It's basically a bunch of individual breaks from reality that have lead to a collective break from reality. Sometimes people who have had a break from reality react with violent aggression when someone confronts them with actual reality. This is definitely one of those sometimes and it's a collective of people, rather than an individual person

    Yup.

The human brain did not evolve to deal with a complex socio-psychological storm of information bombarding us at massive speed.

Fwiw, I am surprised more people are not running through the streets shrieking. But perhaps they are barricading themselves off from reality while sliding from reality.

Just as I thought. DeSantis is the one politicizing the hurricane. butt crevasse.

What an arse! He says, don’t worry, FEMA won’t be running amuck. He doesn’t deserve their help, but the people of Florida would appreciate it. Does he think FEMA will pay 75% without any oversight?

In all fairness, Ron did get around to acknowledging FEMA.

he has no choice. when people want money they'll have to go to the FEMA websites or call FEMA call centers. He doesn't want them coming to him for the money.. When people want checks, they'll come from FEMA. when the insurance companies won't pay out, FEMA will have to help not him.. he knows where the money has to come from..

Here he sounds like a normal executive saying he’ll work with FEMA and appreciates them, but them why did he say in the other clip that FEMA would not run amuck? That is insulting to FEMA. Was it a different audience or was that other clip fake? The tone is 180 degrees.

It’s not fake. He’s an butt crevasse. He was indulging his assholery, then decided to get serious.

The thing is every person has the power to literally turn off the barrage of information. No one is being strapped to a chair in front of a screen with their eyelids clamped open. People are voluntarily exposing themselves to the bombardment.

True. Sadly, it is specifically designed to drive people to continually shove their brains into the trough of insanity.

Evidently there was a threat to relief workers on Saturday deemed credible enough to cause federal and National Guard to temporarily relocate from one area in NC. Threats of armed militia members out “hunting FEMA workers”. Everybody was back in place by Sunday afternoon.

    They've already arrested someone...

Too many people in this country are psychotic, immature, whiny, fearful idiots.

so Musk wouldn't waive the equipment cost to people who needed starlink in hurricane affected areas, but he'll give $1M a day as a lotto type thing to people if they sign a petition in swing states... this guy is sp,mething else...
If it's an official petition to be filed with the state, I don't think it's legal to offer any kind of benefit in exchange for people signing it. Giving someone a chance at winning a million dollars is a benefit.
