There’s a lot of discussion of this in various threads but I think it needs its own. In the aftermath of Helene, we have Milton bearing down on the Tampa area. It looks like it’s gonna be bad. The FEMA Director has already said that additional funds are needed – but speaker Johnson has indicated that he does not wish to reconvene the house in order to approve additional disaster funding.

There have been 152 declared disaster areas in 2024 – I looked it up. They come in the form of fires, floods, blizzards, and ice, storms, earthquakes, tornadoes, and hurricanes. There is no set number of assistance funds needed in any given year, and anyone who suggest that “FEMA spent all the money” is being ignorant or worse.

Milton is going to be bad. This is going to be a big issue in the near term. And it counties to shock me that MAGA in Congress won’t vote for disaster funds - including people like Senator Rick Scott of Florida and Congresswoman Nancy Mace of coastal South Carolina. How on earth do they get re-elected?

And I just want to also say that I HATE the online ignorance about this stuff. Like people using a flight tracker of a NOAA hurricane hunter flight as evidence of storm seeding. It’s just so stupid.

I can take the lies ( to an extent ) because generally, folks see thru the BS.

Its the amplification of the lies and the constant repeating of the lies - that change facts, every 2nd iteration of the lie.

This is what the GOP Presidential candidate sent out at 2:44am on Truth Social.

and the media plays right into the hands of all this- timid and fearful. TAKE A !@$#@#$@#$ STAND for once. Either call this BS out or STOP giving them a platform to continue spreading the lie(s).

Milton has the potential to cut off all road access to and from the lower peninsula of Florida for days to weeks. If it happens and the various agencies are underfunded, it could turn into a man made disaster on top of the natural disaster.

    Mike Johnson is ruthless.

For what it's worth, CNN has been calling out Trump's lying in their headlines. They aren't doing any neutral spinning about Trump's lies on this issue. Hopefully, other news outlets are doing the same.

all the dumbness I am seeing about people saying the gov't is contolling Hurricanes is just mind numbing.
The ones who believe that should not be allowed to vote.. heck they should remove themselves from the gene pool..

understand that many of those you see parroting this info on FB or X, are bots. Not real person.

when i run across a post where its a retweet or post but copied/pasted and see persons "handle" and then @julie01010001929.....with 18 followers and following 2000, its kinda dead giveaway.

We also have active foreign accounts - like this one - spreading all kinds of disinformation. Her latest is that unmarked black helicopters are “destroying” staging areas by hovering very low and blowing the supplies all over. She is pretty good at syntax, but slips up every now and then. Musk isn’t doing anything about her and the others either. No Community Notes, nothing. I’ve requested and reported her numerous times.

    Mangled syntax:

i agree, but the ones who are posting aren't the ones i'm really talking about, its the ones commenting.
I mentioned that this morning to a Coworker, and we were both kinda laughing about how dumb people are about even entertaining the idea that the Gov't can control something like a Hurricane. One of our other co workers snapped back something about 'yall got jokes after all those people have been affected' and walked off.
We were both like, yep, she's one that thinks somehow the gov't is involved..smh...

The Feds/FEMA probably need to bypass the DeSantis and state government and coordinate with local authorities directly.

In states where the governor is operating honestly and actually looking out for it's citizens, it's best to coordinate through the state.

That is precisely what they want so they should just bypass DeSantis
Evidently there is some communication because the WH announced that Biden had already signed a disaster emergency declaration for Florida in advance of Milton.

Considered where Milton is / has been, can @SystemShock please check in when he can? I just checked and he hasn’t posted since last night and I read that Milton had passed over Yucatán which is I think where he is.
