Why are the Republicans doing their convention during the day? Isn't the roll call and nomination normally done at night?

Anybody watching or going to watch in parts?

What are the expectations of the convention for those who support Trump?

2 moments of note for me... Setup for obvious narrative control... None the less.... These were the moments that stuck out in general for me.

Lol. I love how he proclaims his own "free mind and will" by casting aspersions by default on the overwhelming number of minorities that vote for democrats as not being able to think for themselves (because you know Republicans want you to think for yourself as long as your thoughts are the same as theirs), but democrats don't. I have to tell you, as a minority, that is soooooo convincing. Hahahaha.

Also the obvious hypocrisy, but I guess we shouldn't talk about that because then we're not free thinkers.

Look, if he wants to be a minority in the Republican party, that's his choice. But don't act like you're some clairvoyant, free thinker who sees everything much clearer than others of you own race when you're clearly being selective in what you do choose to see and acknowledge about the party you're in.

I think his take on that - was in direct response to the Biden remarks proclaiming that "If you have a problem figuring out whether you're for me or Trump, then you ain't black".... and not that minorities that vote for democrats are unable to think for themselves.

It's pretty clear cut what Biden thinks of minorities that don't vote Democrat...

Even if you don't agree with the message... I thought it was relevant in response, and well delivered.

GOP convention platform is either (1) ignore it or (2) pretend it's over because Donald Trump heroically slayed the virus.
That's been their plan of action all along and their base is just as rabid in their support of him as ever. Guess they figured God decided it was just the 180,000 dead Americans' time to go.

So, you go to your plumber when you have chest pain? Is that what teaching to the tests means to you? I'm so confused here. I don't see how critical thinking skills (or the lack of), remove the usefulness of 'authority'.
I do not understand the example of the plumber.
Teaching to the tests makes the simple answer supreme. When confronted with a question - what does the book say? Does it say y or does it say x? That is it.
And what I am complaining about is not necessarily new - its probably more a criticism of the degree it is used - I imagine that there have been news organizations that had some sort of "truth" test in their publication or something. But there is a huge obsession with it in today's environment and I think it correlates with how we are educating in the country.

We use and rely on technical authorities all the time. A reporter, is someone who is (hopefully) paying more attention to what's going on in DC and the ramifications. That doesn't remove your own personal responsibility as a reader, or a patient, or a person with plumbing issues.

I think you're trying too hard on this one. Trump was just trying to take credit for something that already existed.
I am not saying do not rely on technical authorities. Reporters are authorities on facts, in a way. And the point of my example was that you can have a totally accurate description of facts without the need for the addition of a truth value placed on anyone's comments. That is the result of good work by an authoritative reporter as opposed to creating an authority for Truth.

Not taking a dig at anybody, I just thought this meme was funny and it had to do with the convention. Lol.

I watched Crenshaw this morning. He as usual, killed it. American is full of good, and decent people? Who knew? He obviously does not watch our media machine.

Yep Pete Davidson made him a star without it you would not know his name.

Did you miss the fact that in his little thing he never once mentioned Trump?

That was beautiful distancing job by him.

He is in for a rough race gonna loose to that Muslim lady.

    Gonna be bad.

I think I have a better understanding of our point.

The plumber example was due to this statement you made.

" My deeper problem with it is that I see it as an example of what I consider a turn towards wanting or needing a sort of simplistic authority. "

I don't see turning to authority as a problem. I guess it depends on what you consider simplistic. And many folks do need simplistic authority. You can look at mask usage as a simple example of once authority tells you to do it, you get much better compliance. When up to everyone, some people get 'paralysis by analysis'.

And I think by now you know I live in "nuance". But sometimes the small details can get in the way of the bigger picture.

I didn't notice he didn't mention Trump until you pointed out. Not sure if that says something about me or you.

Actually, I knew who Crenshaw was well before the SNL guy mentioned him. Do I get an hipster award?
I forgot about Pete or thought he was somebody else on SNL, as I have not watched SNL since the 90's. But yeah, Crenshaw can attribute his political success to an unknown SNL guy.

I have no idea who he is running against, I don't live in Texas but it would think he will be just fine. But who really knows these days.

Every time Dan Crenshaw's name pops up, the only thing I can think about is his hilariously gerrymandered district brought to you by the Texas GOP:

Nope does not say a thing about me or you.

It is called distancing himself from trump right in front of him. Did he bring up one trump policy? Say anything that trump did well?

Nope that means for his race he seems to want to distance himself from trump.

You know not tying his race to Donald's losing one.

Texas 2nd is a weird district. I thought few could be as weird as Illinois' 4th, but Texas 2nd is close

For a minute, I thought Guliani's fixadent was giving out. Who knew that one political party could unilaterally release prisoners from jail. If I were a judge, I'd be pretty pissed off about that.
