Why are the Republicans doing their convention during the day? Isn't the roll call and nomination normally done at night?

Anybody watching or going to watch in parts?

What are the expectations of the convention for those who support Trump?

Why do you need someone to authoritatively tell you that it is a falsehood? Why not make your own determination given the facts as best laid out.
Again, if everyone is allowed to make their own determinations of fact, our justice system is just one of many institutions that simply cannot function.

Facts are objectively true. Opinions regarding facts are not objectively true. They’re just opinions. My “own determination” is just an opinion, unless it also happens to align with reality.

I will put it like this:

If Jim says, "I crossed Main Street at about 3PM on Tuesday August 25, 2020" and someone was going to check as to whether Jim did cross Main Street at that time and interviews 3 people who say they were in the grocery store with Jim on Tuesday from 2.45PM to at least 3.30PM then I am saying report that. There is no need to add "Jim is lying" or Jim's statement is untrue.
The addition of rating the statement as being false is not reporting a fact, likewise, if all 3 had said they saw Jim crossing Main Street at roughly 3PM then describing Jim as being "truthful" does not help the reader understand the facts at all.

why not just use the example of Trump protecting pre-existing conditions? I don’t follow how the example is illustratively analogous

Probably could have or should have just stuck to the Trump example. But I just thought using something more simple might illustrate the point that you have a descriptions of a fact or facts that can be as accurate as possible without ascribing a truth value to any of the descriptions. In fact, you can have a total and complete description of events and/or people's experience of the event without ascribing a truth value to statements or descriptions. All adding a truth value does is essentially give us the author's opinion.

My deeper problem with it is that I see it as an example of what I consider a turn towards wanting or needing a sort of simplistic authority. Its a small example of that, but in my opinion, it is an example of it. I have mentioned this to you before, but I find it probably a result of the infatuation with test-taking and teaching to the tests that have dominated our educational landscape for the last two generations.

The whole blessed and God thing is kinda silly.

Do they not know who they are supporting?

This whole thing is just an absolute riot.

The naturalization of citizens going on now is just pathetic. They got one of every flavor

I don't think this is a good example.

you're talking about a simple verifiable fact, that can be given the grace of a 'gimmie' or not. Jim crossing the street isn't a news worthy, nor political story. No one cares.

I think the whole 'protecting' situation is more about motive and intent. And your crossing the street example isn't an example of motive or intent, which would require a different technique of verification.

So, you go to your plumber when you have chest pain? Is that what teaching to the tests means to you? I'm so confused here. I don't see how critical thinking skills (or the lack of), remove the usefulness of 'authority'.

We use and rely on technical authorities all the time. A reporter, is someone who is (hopefully) paying more attention to what's going on in DC and the ramifications. That doesn't remove your own personal responsibility as a reader, or a patient, or a person with plumbing issues.

I think you're trying too hard on this one. Trump was just trying to take credit for something that already existed.

Anyway... back to the actual event....

Don Jr is not a good speaker. You don't need to 'foint' for every single syllable.

This feels like a "Cliff's Notes" to Fox News opinion shows. Anarchy, Radical left!

The RNC isn't for us, it's for people who stood behind him as he gassed peaceful protestors so he could have a clear path to a church for photo-op with a bible (which looked like the first time he ever held one).

Kimberly Guilfoyle is nutty. WHY IS SHE YELLING!!!???!!!

First off, did she say she's a first generation American? And her mother was from Puerto Rico, and both her parents were immigrants? What? PR is America. Her mother's not an immigrant. She's not first generation, either. Her dad was Irish, so I'll give her that.

The democrats will step on you, destroy your families, your lives, and your future? They brain wash you too? I mean, wut??

This is the kind of crazy that only comes from still being mad at an Ex.. Oh, Gavin Newsom, look at what you did.

This might be the only good speech I've heard so far (minus the last few minutes). However, I don't think his tax numbers are accurate. Also, the characterization of the tax plans, and the tax cut from the Trump admin are just not honest. At least, not fully honest. The fear mongering is weird.

I find it probably a result of the infatuation with test-taking and teaching to the tests that have dominated our educational landscape for the last two generations.
I find it the result of the scientific method, which involves drawing conclusions at the end of the experiment.

The step after that is to objectively determine if the conclusions aligned with the original hypothesis.

A lot of people getting hung up on that last part.

2 moments of note for me... Setup for obvious narrative control... None the less.... These were the moments that stuck out in general for me.
