After months of internal arguing among Democrats over whether to impeach President Donald Trump, the dam is finally breaking in favor of trying to remove him from office. The Washington Post reported that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi would announce a formal impeachment inquiry on Tuesday, following a bombshell report that Trump illegally asked Ukraine’s government to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, one of his political opponents. (He essentially admitted to having done so over the weekend.)

“Now that we have the facts, we’re ready,” Pelosi said Tuesday morning at a forum hosted by The Atlantic. At 5 p.m. the same day, she was back with more. "The actions taken to date by the president have seriously violated the constitution, especially when the president says Article Two says I can do whatever I want," referring to the segment of the Constitution that defines the power of the executive branch of the government. Pelosi's message was that checks and balances of those branches are just as central to the Constitution. And one more thing: "Today, I am announcing the House of Representatives is moving forward with an official impeachment inquiry," she said at a conference broadcast on Twitter by the Huffington Post. ...

Undermining the media, the CIA and the FBI? All of those entities are extremely powerful and have enormous resources to ensure they are great.

He is not undermining them, they are doing that to themselves. He is shining a spotlight on their deficiencies.

And I am glad he is, because there needs to be corrections with all three institutions.

It's bizzare to see someone white knighting for the FBI - this of all weeks.

And no, it's not just a few procedures that need to be tweaked. It's always been against the rules to withhold exculpatory evidence and make up evidence that does not exist.

Altering evidence would be a huge scandal in a car wreck case. An attorney caught doing that would be disbarred and would be shunned by the local bar if he ever got to practice again. But to do that as a government attorney before a secret court is unreal.

He's not shining a spotlight on their deficiencies. He is doing a victory lap because he hopes that by focusing on the mistakes in an investigation that relates to him will help him convince people he did nothing wrong.

He does not care about FBI misconduct when it doesn't effect him directly.

If we had a Democratic president 2008-2016, does that mean electing Trump overturned the 2008 election results?

Gaslighting, you say? The Kavanaugh hearings and the House impeachment hearings were good examples gaslighting . . . attempts to make people question their own sanity . . . in order to get the American public to accept hearsay and innuendo as hard cold facts.

I have to question if you know what gaslighting means. The Kavanaugh hearings and the House impeachment hearings were cases where individuals brought forth evidence of wrongdoings. Now, you may choose to disbelieve the evidence, or you may say that the evidence isn't enough to convince you of guilt. But, that's not gaslighting.

Gaslighting is continuing to claim that you came up with the idea of VA Choice, and that the people in the room said "Sir, we've been trying to do that for 40 years," long after it's been shown that VA Choice was signed into law more than 2 years before you took office.

    Dems getting to Showboat today...
    Such drama.

I am only doing this to save the country and the constitution.
We do this to save our Democracy.
    etc...

I don;t quite understand how they can say they are trying to save our Democracy, when they are doing this charade to try an overturn the election.

Do you believe that Trump withheld aid from Ukraine because he wanted an announcement of an investigation that would help him politically?

Because they're not overturning and election. We've already been through this.

They're voting to impeach a president because of his corrupt acts.

Yes. Trying to overturn the results of an election with no bipartisan support.
Talk about a threat to democracy.

I see a lot of people talking about the lack of bipartisan support. There is something very important to look at, when talking about bipartisan support.

One party using their majority to impeach a president simply because their party wants it is a bad thing, and that type of lack of bipartisan support is a threat to our democracy.

By the same token, one party refusing to impeach a president simply because that's what their party wants is just as bad, and just as big a threat to democracy.

Yeah, I'm trying to come up with a scenario or situation where Republicans in congress or Republican voters would ever support Impeachment of Trump and there isn't one. Given everything we've seen from them, he can't do anything impeachable.

Also, using polling as justification is weak. Even in the Nixon situation, public support for Impeachment didn't surpass 50% until July of '74 (we've had that much support for months now), only one month before he stepped down. But in that situation, Congress wasn't as divided and the Republicans in Congress had enough integrity to want to find out the truth. That's a far cry from what we see now.

OMG.. Nancy Pelosi standing next to the Flag reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

What.. Now the Flag is of grand importance and we should pledge our Allegiance to it? I thought it was just a piece of cloth?

My My My... How things change when you want it to fit YOUR narrative...

Its not a good argument to say nothing will gather Republican support for impeachment simply because there isn't public support for this impeachment.
Further, this impeachment is weak. The weakest in history. Congress is not charging any actual crime, any violation of statutory law, or even common law cries - simply a nebulous "abuse of power" and "obstruction of congress."

As far as a direct comparison with Nixon there are a few clear differences.
First, there had not been a politicization of any previous investigation of the President. no nightly news reports of "oh my God, the PResident is a Russian agent" ad nauseam with reports of "this is it" at every turn.
Second. Congress in the Nixon proceedings had a goal of actually drawing in Republican support - making concessions to Republicans and even giving into demands.
Third, Congress during the Nixon Presidency did not try to rush through impeachment. There was a move to treat it not as a political ploy but as an actual serious matter that resulted in overturning the results of an election. So, they actually fought the White house and waited on the evidence before proceeding - and in fact support really mobilized against Nixon once SCOTUS ruled against Nixon on the issue of the tapes.

What are you talking about "court records?"

The President was an unindicted co-conspirator in the campaign finance violations that Michael Cohen is sitting in prison for. Court records.

There are other court records that show the president stole from his charity and veterans.

I realize that neither of these misdeeds are part of impeachment, but there are plenty of court records that show the president is a scumbag who does not respect the rule of law.
