Supreme Court has voted to overturn abortion rights per draft opinion (Update: Dobbs opinion official) (2 Viewers)

Not long ago Kari Lake proclaimed Arizona's abortion law was a great law and wanted it the law of the state.

Now that she has gotten her way, she is lobbying for it to be repealed.

As I have been saying since 2022, the overwhelming vast majority of women aren't going to vote for the man who proudly boasts that he got rid of Roe V. Wade. Nor are those women going to vote for a forced birther politician.

Turns out, republican belief in "pro life" was all just lies to get votes. Who is surprised? I sure am not.

How many forced birthers will do the same about face?

Arizona Republican Senate candidate Kari Lake is actively lobbying state lawmakers to overturn a 160-year-old law she once supported that bans abortion in almost all cases, a source with knowledge of her efforts told CNN.

Everyone? Are all of the other 99 senators going on air and making these kinds of direct accusations without evidence?

If others are doing that, I don't care which "side" they represent or who they are pointing the finger at; it's irresponsible and unethical, particularly of a sitting senator.

Don't misunderstand, though, this is exactly what I've come to expect from Senator Cruz.

People are giving a whole lot of baseless accusations a lot more time than they deserve, and in the process, keeping them gassed up and going. Don’t eat the cheese hermano, don’t click the link.

Certainly, you are free to project a cavalier attitude about it all.

I happen to think we should be raising our expectations of elected officials, not shrugging this kind of behavior off.

Sure, I agree, but the cynicism towards politicians is clearly warranted imo. They all do the same shirt to some degree or another. It would be nice if they'd hold themselves to a higher standard.

I didn't question cynicism but rather apathy.

I'm also not ignoring a bigger problem by raising an objection to the allegations made by Cruz and given the office he holds (which I already accept means nothing to him). In fact, I think criticizing this kind of behavior is important in addressing the bigger problem.

I like this thought that I am so cavalier, and perhaps in this brave new world I am cavalier, but I see myself as just a normal guy. Do unto others as you would want done unto you, and all that.

I live in Texas, so I am well aware of Ted, but Greg is actually the one that gives me the heebie-jeebies.

Naming someone like Cruz did while an investigation is ongoing is the height of irresponsibility. His lack of good sense and humanity isn’t a surprise though. There’s a reason even his own party hates him.

Seemed clear to me that you don't care that Cruz singled out a Justice and her staff for suspicion ahead of any finding of responsibility. Did I misunderstand?

    Thou doth protest too much.

No, no. You are spot on. I don’t care, at least not as much as you do. I’ve come to expect that from him. However in a world where doxing is very much a thing, and people get got by being accused by folks who aren’t politicians, i’m going to hold off feigning outrage.

Here’s to hoping this works and settled things down before summer.

Will Susan Collins be a disappointment with this vote too?

    Ok.

Let's suppose Collins and Murkowski join the vote to break the filibuster, who are the other 8 assuming all Democrats are on board, which I don't necessarily think is a foregone conclusion. I'd like to see it codified as well, but as Chuck pointed out, it may ultimately not matter because of the lack of Constitutional protection.

I’m trying to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I would like to think he can tell the difference between idle speculation on a message board on whether the leak came from a conservative or a liberal (seen by 10s, lol) and a sitting US Senator‘s overheated rhetoric singling out a single Justice and blaming her or her staff without any proof (multiple times) seen by millions of people? Because if he refuses to see that difference, then his “I’m just a guy and I don’t care about this” suddenly seems very strained. A thin veneer.

Some of these male legislators think that a Fallopian pregnancy can be treated without losing the embryo. They actually tried to write that into a law somewhere - they spelled out there would be no abortions even to treat ectopic pregnancy. I can’t remember what state that was now, sadly it could be a whole bunch of states. There was an RN in the legislature, IIRC, but the man wouldn’t take her word for it that women would die very quickly if his law was passed. I do think cooler heads prevailed in the final form. The man was astonished that removing the tube, and of necessity the embryo, was the only treatment option.
