    First thoughts thus far...
    • I really wish Biden would've started on something other than Trump.
    • Either MTG is broke or cheap walking around with a Trump 2020 cap on. She's totally in on trying to be VP.
    • Not only does Mike Johnson have a very punchable face, he just looks very creepy up there. He looks so out of place.
    • Joe is showing energy tonight.

From the comments of this opinion piece.

Was just reading about it on Twitter. It was evidently very much … something. Also, tell me the GOP didn’t pick a young woman to give the response and have her sitting in her kitchen? Really? 🤣

It was straight out of the R playbook, using a young southern female senator to fear monger.....I watched and kept thinking to myself, this is the best they can do? It was an absolute joke of a rebuttal, not remotely attached to reality as is most of the R party these days.....

My takeaway was exactly what I felt before the SOTU....the R party has a big problem with the truth.....every time Biden spoke the truth about the R party Mike Johnson looked very uncomfortable.....because he knows better, as a lot of them do, but he continues the charade like a good little cult member....

Biden knocked it out of the park last night, all you have to do is see the R's reaction, nothing of substance because they couldn't criticize the substance/facts in any meaningful way.....

Mrs. Bird and I always say everything we do is for the food and comfort of our dog.

Our little guy (not so little, 65lbs, part Lab, part Husky and who knows what else) is a hunter. He has dug up and killed moles. He killed a juvenile skunk. He absolutely hates the feral cats that are around. We live in a rural area and the neighbor puts out food for one which means a bunch show up. When they are stupid enough to come into the fenced in part of our property he goes after them. He turns his ears off. The squirrels are smart enough to stay out because there are no trees nearby for them to escape to. Our little guy has had cats by the back several times but they have gotten away although one or two might have gone off and died. He is 11 with arthritis in his back legs which doesn’t stop him from running out to bark at cats or going after them if they are in our yard. We do try to chase them away before he notices them but on occasion they are hiding under our deck or someplace else. I know people love cats. We really do try to stop him but they come in and hide under the deck or under the grill cover or in one of our two hemlocks which are in the fenced in part. If we see a cat in the yard we do not let him out. We will chase the cat away.

Our Pyratolian, Fenrir, is the same way.

Usually the cats can easily make it to the fence and over before he catches them. Except this one tom with more balls than brains who decided to bow up and bluff like he wanted to fight.
    Fenrir doesn't bluff.
Imagine the "puny god" scene but it's a cat in a dog's mouth. 'Ol Tom is fertilizing the blackberries now.

I didn't get a chance to watch either speech. How did the "diminished leader" angle play after Biden came out fired up?

I'm not sure that I approve of that completely. You only pay mortgage insurance when you can't put down a 20% down payment, and it goes away when you have paid the loan down to 78%. People that can't pay the down payment are inherently more risky, so if we get rid of it, that risk will be passed to everyone else. There are already plenty of advantages to buying a home, but not everyone is able to afford it, and I don't think we should have more people buying that are going to have trouble paying. The solution for most people is to buy a small home and save money, not encourage people to get overextended.
Nice post about PMI and you're correct on that point. But that's not what Biden was addressing. He's talking about title insurance where you have to pay fees when refinancing a mortgage. When someone refinances certain mortgages, they're required to pay title insurance fee, typically around $700-$1000.

The insurance is pretty much a racket that only pays out in like 3% of claims submitted, which is stupid low. The policy/coverage is basically worthless.

I think this is an easy one for Biden to win on.

President Joe Biden turned his State of the Union address into a muscular campaign kickoff, never once uttering Donald Trump’s name but repeatedly invoking the threat posed by his likely general election foe.

The overtly political tone underscored the stakes of the night for the president. And it was set from the beginning, as a fiery Biden laid out three challenges — the war in Ukraine, the Jan. 6 insurrection and reproductive rights — that would be further imperiled if his predecessor returned to office.

It was a president recognizing the campaign crunch he faces. His speech was not an act of reconciliation or an effort to forge political unity. It was the opening salvo in what seemed certain to be a historically long and unprecedentedly ugly rematch between him and Trump.

“As I’ve done ever since being elected to office, I ask you all, without regard to party, to join together and defend our democracy,” Biden told the assembled lawmakers, plainly laying out the stakes of November’s contest. “Remember your oath of office to defend against all threats foreign and domestic.”

The speech was well received by Democrats, who have spent months fretting whether Biden has the vigor for the campaign ahead.

“Nobody is going to talk about cognitive impairment now,” Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) told the president shortly after he was done.

And, to a degree, that was a victory for the White House............

I'm sure Biden is on high doses of Lipitor and Lisinopril. Maybe a Cialis every now and then too.

I've already said this (I think), but she's too cheap to get an updated cap? Trump won't be pleased.

    1. She could be saying that he won the 2020 election.
    2. She could be trying to prove she's an OG, like a Saints fan with an original Archie Manning jersey.
    3. She's broke, and Donald doesn't give those hats away for free to anyone.
