The US secretary of defense Pete Hegseth has a tattoo that appears to read “infidel” or “non-believer” in Arabic, according to recently posted photos on his social media account.

In photos posted on Tuesday on X, the Fox News host turned US defense secretary had what appears to be a tattoo that says “kafir”, an Arabic term used within Islam to describe an unbeliever. Hegseth appears to have also had the tattoo in another Instagram photo posted in July 2024.

Some people on social media criticized Hegseth for getting a tattoo that could be considered offensive to Muslims, especially as the US military seeks to represent a diverse pool of faiths. It is estimated that upwards of 5,000 to 6,000 US military members practice Islam.

“This isn’t just a personal choice; it’s a clear symbol of Islamophobia from the man overseeing U.S. wars,” posted Nerdeen Kiswani, a pro-Palestinian activist in New York.

She added: “‘Kafir’ has been weaponized by far-right Islamophobes to mock and vilify Muslims. It’s not about his personal beliefs. It’s about how these beliefs translate into policy – how they shape military decisions, surveillance programs, and foreign interventions targeting Muslim countries.”

A former leader of the far-right Proud Boys, Joe Biggs, also has a similar tattoo.……

I got into my one and only physical fight when I was in seventh grade. It was right after school let out, the other boy was called Nathan, and moments before I launched at him, he knocked the books out of my brother Casey’s hands and called him “mentally challenged”.

More than 20 years after that scuffle, I still wonder how often Casey, a now 35-year-old autistic man, is called that word. Given the current political landscape, I’m certain he’s going to start hearing it more often.

The R-word is in a new era of prominence in rightwing, chronically online circles – especially on 4chan and X.

A favorite of those who currently hold power or stand to gain power under Donald Trump’s second administration, the slur is being used with gleeful relish to belittle and mock ideological enemies.

In the past year, Elon Musk has used the R-word at least 16 times on X. He thought Ben Stiller was one for endorsing Kamala Harris; so was the Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz for comparing Tesla to Enron.

Elsewhere, brash, right-leaning personalities such as the political commentator Dave Rubin, and Dasha Nekrasova and Anna Khachiyan of the podcast Red Scare, frequently throw the word around with provocative irreverence, attempting to discredit those who don’t align with their politics.……

Now that's ironic considering that their dear leader is mentally challenged.

Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade said he didn’t care that the Trump administration's revocation of student visas over pro-Palestine protests and opinions could have a “chilling effect” on free speech and paint the United States as a censorious regime.

Kilmeade’s colleague Lawrence Jones went even further, saying that he wants “chills to run down the spine of not only terrorists but of people that are residents here.”

During Friday’s broadcast of President Donald Trump’s favorite morning talk show, co-host Rachel Campos-Duffy — whose husband currently serves as Trump’s transportation secretary — expressed some concern that the State Department’s “Catch and Revoke”program could lead to a slippery slope when it comes to freedom of speech.……..

The founder of a key support group for the US president has praised Gina Rinehart as a “female Donald Trump” and backed a push by the mining magnate to bring Trump’s policy ideas to Australia.

Toni Holt Kramer, the president and founder of The Trumpettes USA, told Guardian Australia she had been friends with Rinehart since the first Trump presidency in 2016, describing her as an “extremely brilliant woman”.

She has also thrown her support behind Rinehart to be a future Australian ambassador to Washington under a Dutton government.

“She’s an incredible woman … She does so much good. I’m so impressed with her through the years. To me, she’s sort of like a female Donald Trump,” Holt Kramer said of Australia’s richest person.

“She has the right values for me ... She thinks so normally, so intelligently, and she’s only for the betterment of Australia. She loves Australia with her heart and soul.……

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum told Fox News host Lara Trump that he “certainly” believes there’s room on Mount Rushmore for President Trump’s face, in an interview that aired on Saturday.

Speaking on her show “My View with Lara Trump”, President Trump’s daughter-in-law told Burgum “a lot of people wonder” whether his face will be added to the South Dakota monument.

“The Department of Interior is in charge of the National Park Service,” Lara Trump said. “The National Park Service is in charge of Mount Rushmore. A lot of people wonder, will we ever see President Trump’s face on Mount Rushmore? What do you think?”……

I “certainly” believe Doug Borgum is an idiot.

Far-right internet personality Stew Peters suggested he wants a “final solution” to remove Jewish people from the United States.

Peters, known for spreading Covid-19 misinformation, promoting white supremacist rhetoric and denying the Holocaust, discussed on his March 27 show about how President Donald Trump is “making Israel great again.”

His guest, Matt Baker, a self-described “freedom fighter” based in California, interjected: “I don’t think we should deport all Jewish people.”

“Well, I’m two years ahead of you on that and in two years, you’ll come back and say, ‘Yeah you were right about that,’” Peters said. “I’m a little bit ahead of people, just like I was with Covid and the bioweapon…We absolutely do need a final solution on that.”

Earlier in the episode, Peters said: “Our country is not being put first,” before calling Trump’s administration “the most anti-American administration of all time.”……….

An Ohio 8th-grader’s father has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against his son’s teacher, principal, and school district after the boy was asked to stop wearing a “Let’s Go Brandon” T-shirt to class — then got detention for ignoring the request, dismissing concerns as “not my problem.”

The suit was filed March 26 in Cleveland federal court by Richard Conrad on behalf of his son, who is identified in legal filings by his full name and as “C.C.” It acknowledges that the teacher’s and principal’s actions were “consistent with” the local school district’s Student Code of Conduct.

However, it also argues the code “provides no clarity” regarding a pupil’s freedom of speech, and grants “broad discretion” on the issue to faculty members “without recourse or accountability.” (The Independent is withholding C.C.’s full name because he is a minor.)

The slogan, “Let’s Go Brandon,” is a thinly coded message used by conservative Republicans and the broader MAGA movement to mean, “F**k Joe Biden.” It became an accidental meme of sorts in 2021, following NASCAR driver Brandon Brown’s surprise win at the Talladega Motor Speedway in Alabama that October.…..

Although Biden is no longer in office, C.C., who is more than a half-decade shy of voting age, would “like to express his personal opinions, including wearing T-shirts with the content of the T-shirt he was punished for wearing,” according to the lawsuit. “However, C.C.’s free speech is punished and chilled by the District’s punishment.”……

The shirt is dumb. Unless they're required to wear uniforms, getting bent about the shirt is dumb. And suing everything and everybody is also dumb. This whole thing is a waste of time.
