This is gaining momentum, pretty fast, it might be good to keep track of this movement.

This thread is from a thoughtful conservative that I follow on Twitter, and I generally enjoy seeing his takes:

I just snip what I can.

That last sentence is paramount. It's why politics has become so nasty these past few years. It's been about more than marginal tax rates since Reagan.
Trump just cranked that to eleven.

Nominal rates are pretty useless figures because no one actually pays those rates. Effective rates are a better figure, and you have to make a fair amount before you actually get to a positive effective rate.

The effective rates of people making high 6 figures and into 7 figures is often fairly low. Most people making that kind of money can afford tax pros who can get the most out of the deductions and tax planning to keep their effective rates low.

Our tax system is broken and needs to be fixed.

Man, he just captured my thoughts perfectly. Trump and Trumpism is a threat to this Republic. I have family that are good people that are voting for Trump because they always have voted Republican and always will. I had an argument with my sister where I showed her how he is against what she truly stands for in life. She didn’t want to hear it. I told her he is counting on good people like her to do nothing. She got mad at me and has stopped talking with me during the election. She just doesn’t want to have her beliefs challenged—even by herself.

Whoa, dude. Sorry to here that.

She will be fine after the election. She just doesn’t want to talk because she is afraid it may turn to politics. She can’t back up her arguments and doesn’t want to deal with it.

Heck, I have almost 80-year old Aunt that posts “TDS” (Trump derangement syndrome) any time I post something negative about Trump. No other discussion. Just TDS. Again, another good person who just doesn’t want to challenge their opinions.

sounds very similar to my family. With the exception of my brother, they have always been straight ticket (R) voters. My two uncles are MAGA hat wearers, faux news watchers and have bumper stickers and flags and call CNN communist news network etc. I deleted my facebook a few years ago because I didn't want to see the garbage some of my family were re-posting, or their "likes" on articles etc. I decided it was better for me to be ignorant of their views than lose respect for them. Other than their political beliefs, they are nice people, but if I'm around them in person, and a political topic comes up, I just walk out the room b/c I know what they are about to start saying. It's gotten to a point where I don't want to go to xmas or thanksgiving etc b/c they oddly (I assume) think everyone in the room is a trump supporter or something, and casually talk about a lot of really terrible views and beliefs that are vastly different than my own.

It has impaired my relationship with my brother

and definitely RIP’d the relationship I had with his wife that was already on life support

the latter I don’t give a shirt about

but yea it can have an effect. Some of the stuff he posts and claims are blatantly untrue and yet keeps posting them. And believing them.

And in all these examples, these are intelligent people. That's what perplexes me the most in all of this.
But I gotta believe they are so tribalist, that is the only reason. That I can understand.

What I meant was that it'd gone way past what bracket pays how much tax, or even where that money goes.
It's gotten to where the basic American assumption that if you were born here, you're a citizen, free to engage in civic life to the fullest is no longer held by both parties. If you're gay or black or atheist or any sort of minority, one whole political party, not just a fringe element here or there, a whole half of the ballot wants to deny you your American birthrights.

Screw tax rates, this is about whether you even get to be here or not.

Makes sense. Thanks for clarifying that. :9:

Someone who just left the RNC last year:

Went to find the ad that they're airing online and in battleground states today that I saw on the news and found this Biden sponsored ad instead. They're not forking around. It's awesome how gangsta Biden looks just with a change of the background music.
