Another thought is no politicians will do anything about this until it happens to them. The Brady Bill only happened because of the assassination attempt on Reagan. Politicians knew Jim Brady so there was a personal involvement that made this legislation possible.

Of course, tangentially related, this is the type of family that JD Vance seems to hold up as a model for everyone. Parents who obviously have done a great job raising a kid.

And, yes, until it happens to a politician’s kids nothing gets done.

I think we might even passed the personal experience causing change. Trump almost got whacked, and he says nothing about gun control. Heck, a big part of why Republicans moved on from that so fast is the obvious questions that arose from that sitation. Why can a kid buy a gun but not a beer? Why do we allow open carry?

That's some easy, and basic regulation. Republicans would literally rather die then change gun laws.

On Monday, Tennessee’s election coordinator, Mark Goins, sent a letter to the Shelby County Election Commission warning that the gun control measures violated several of Tennessee’s laws, making them void and ineligible to be placed on the ballot. The letter was sent hours after House Speaker Cameron Sexton and Senate Speaker Randy McNally issued their state funding ultimatum.

Goins added that “unequivocable declarations by the General Assembly” left “no authority” for Memphis officials to propose such amendments to the city’s charter. Goins also raised concerns that the city had not properly followed the public notice procedures required to put a referendum on the Nov. 5 ballot..........

The Daily Memphian reports that Shelby county chancellor Melanie Taylor Jefferson sided with the Memphis city council, which sued the Shelby county election commission last month for refusing to put gun control measures on the ballot.

In August, the election commission announced they could not place the questions on the ballot because the secretary of state’s office had warned they violated several of Tennessee’s laws, making them void and ineligible. In response, the Memphis city council filed a complaint requesting that a judge overrule the commission’s decision.…..

Colin Gray, the father of Apalachee High School shooting suspect Colt Gray, has filed a motion to be separated from the other inmates in jail after getting an “incalculable number of threats.”

Gray is accused of giving his son an AR-15-style firearm as a Christmas gift last year, months after the FBI interviewed the father and son over threats he allegedly made online about school shootings.

That gun was allegedly used in the attack at the Georgia school on September 4 that killed two students and two teachers.


Gray is charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter and is being held without bond at the Barrow County Detention Center.
