    There’s a lot of doubt that Kevin McCarthy will be able to get enough votes to become Speaker. It certainly won’t happen on the first ballot. Already Boboert and MTG are publicly at odds over it.

    Maybe this is worth it’s own thread to watch. One person mentioned is Scalise.

    Jordan still telling the Big Lie today.

    Why won't Republican moderates work with Democrats to elect a non-MAGA Republican Speaker?

    ===========
    House Democratic leaders are quickly gaggling before the speaker vote, urging Republicans to pick a speaker who Democrats can support and to abandon Jim Jordan. Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) calls Jordan “the poster child for MAGA extremism.”

    Jeffries says he believes Speaker Pro Tempore Patrick T. McHenry (R-N.C.) is a good American and that there are other Republicans who are as well, suggesting Democrats would be willing to vote for several potential GOP speakers. He added it would take a “real conversation” with Republicans to decide what a Democratic-backed GOP speaker would look like.

    No Republican is gonna stick their neck out like that though. It would be political and even career suicide, let alone finding five who would negotiate the terms, because there will be terms and an expectation of power-sharing by the Democrats.

    I'd love to see them do it though.

    It’s all because Trump and Trump allies like Bannon and Hannity are pushing for Jordan. None of these people who have sold their soul to Trump are doing what’s best for anyone but Trump.

    I think the bigger question is whether there are more than 22 votes. That would be a clear indication that Jordan is bleeding support in the party. Makes it more likely they'll stop this nonsense.

    Looks like the answer will be yes. He continues to move in the wrong direction.

    These situations of multiple speaker votes are not that common but you would think that if there's a process - it would see one person continuing to add votes until he/she hits the mark. That's not happening here, it's the opposite. So continuing this path seems futile.
